Lysander almost hadn't expected Cordy to keep in touch but he was glad that she did. At least she understood his need to go trawling through the mall and poking his head into every store, designer label or not, looking for whatever they might have. Sure she didn't always understand the things he bought but she at least kept that to herself.

She was also handy to have around when he was looking for something new since she had taste and could give him actual opinions.

"So, the dark wash blue ones from before or these black ones? I can't decide which goes better." He was looking himself over in the mirror and turned to look over his shoulder at Cordy.

"With that shirt? Or with your figure?" Her brow lofted as she glanced up from the rack she was browsing through just outside of the men's fitting room. There were a few things on the clearance rack that she was pondering picking up; a sweater that might be nice to set aside for Luc come the holiday season, a tee that Arin might like. She was pointedly avoiding the simpler things that might have reminded her of a certain someone else, glad for the distraction that Lysander was offering with the question.

"If you want it to actually look like denim I would go with the blue ones. Those ones you've got on will work well with a number of business casual outfits, though. Could be paired off with a tee and a blazer or a button down and a vest. Can't say I could picture you in a polo shirt, though, Lys."

"Polo shirts are for youth ministers and business men who want to look 'cool'." He shook his head, turning so he could see the back of the jeans in the mirror. "This shirt goes better with both pairs of jeans. Which ones make my a** look best?" He grinned, only half joking, as he looked over at her.

He usually wore jeans to work, most people at the company did, but all of them preferred nicer ones even if sometimes nicer also meant artfully distressed. The wonders of working at a fashion magazine. No one told you that something wasn't 'business' appropriate unless you came to work in your underwear."

"I could probably take a picture and submit it to the 'phone a friend' option if you really want to know what jeans look better on your backside, but I'm probably not the best one to judge that myself." She snorted softly as she glanced up while pulling a vintage style tee off of the rack.

"I like the cut of those ones. They seem to fit more comfortably overall, for what it's worth. Do you care about comfort or are you looking for pants to go out at night in?" Her brow quirked as she watched him while handing the shirt over. "Try this one on. It's soft."

"Are you telling me you can't tell if someone's a** looks good in jeans anymore? " He raised a brow sightly as he took the shirt and nudged the dressing room door open again so he could try it on. "Or does this have to do with that someone who you keep mentioning without mentioning?"

He let the door swing shut before tugging off his shirt to try on the one Cordelia had handed over. It did fit nicely and it was soft. And it looked good with the jeans if he wanted to go for something a bit more casual. With the dark gray blazer he had it would be perfect.

"Because it's still okay to tell me that my a** looks fantastic. Just saying." He grinned as he stepped back out. She was right though. The jeans he had on were more comfortable than the other pair he'd tried on.

"I'm telling you that the jeans look like they fit well and leaving it implied that your a** isn't one that I'm interested in." Cordelia snorted as she leaned against the wall by the fitting room door, crossing her arms over her chest. "Not that there's any one that I'm interested in..." It had been an odd realization to come to when she'd finally figured out that her attraction to people was different than others experienced-- that she appreciated different physical attributes far more for their artistic qualities than out of any sort of desire. It complicated things when she did start to find someone attractive... Things were complicated now.

Cordelia rolled her eyes at herself as she dropped her hands to her sides, eventually bringing one up to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear as she glanced back over at Lysander as he graced the world outside the fitting room with his presence once more. "For being an a** that I'm not interested in, it doesn't look bad in those jeans and I'm certain that someone will appreciate it... I also have no idea what you're talking about."

"... I suppose I will take that as your version of "fantastic a** Lyander." He laughed as he smoothed the tshirt down over his sides. "Awesome find with the tee too. Might take both pairs of jeans but I"m definatly taking the shirt." Lysander gave her a grin before ducking into the changing room to put back on his clothes and hanging up the things he was going to buy.

When he came back out he had the jeans an the shirt over an arm. "You were looking at a dress earlier. Did you want to try it on? Maybe for that thing you have no idea what I'm talking about?

"Not in my budget for this shopping trip-- rent is due soon. Besides, I have enough dresses and skirts in my closet that I haven't been wearing." Cordelia rolled her eyes before shaking her head, mostly at herself. She hadn't been doing much between work, the one summer class that she'd signed up for, patrolling and visiting Corvus. It made a good distraction, but it obviously wasn't enough if Lysander had picked up on something.

"There isn't a thing. I thought there might have been a thing, but I'm generally wrong about things like that." Her lips pressed together as she glanced down, trying to figure out how to string words together to make sense of anything. "I'm sure you've seen the photos Luc took at the Destiny Star Gala floating around. I know you'd mentioned going at one point, but... God, it was weeks ago and it's so stupid..."

"I didn't ask you if it was in your budget. I asked if you wanted to try it on. Now i'm just going to tell you that you need to try it on." He laughed, nudging her slightly so she'd go get it. "If you've got stuff you haven't been wearing it's all the more reason to clean out your closet and replace things with stuff you will wear. I'll even come help. I know a couple places in town that give really good prices on clothes so you'll have some extra cash to get new stuff." He could get her the dress if it looked good on her and she liked it. She at least would know he wasn't actually expecting anything from a gift even if he'd tease her about it.

He raised a brow at her little outburst. "So you had a date for the Gala and you're trying not to think about it. Cordy. Whatever it is i'm sure it's not stupid. Complicated maybe, but not stupid."

It was obvious enough that he wasn't going to take 'no' for an answer so she decided to humor him, heading back over to the sale rack. She thumbed through the dresses once more, pulling out the one she'd been looking at in her size. She left Lysander with her purse as she slid into the fitting room to try on the dress.

"Complicated is an understatement," she muttered as she balanced the hanger on the hook while peeling her shirt up over her head. "We're friends-- very good friends. I thought so, at least. Things got a bit odd between us after the accident I was in and the Gala was... I don't know. I thought it was special. I... Hell, I can't explain it. I don't feel like I've been swept off of my feet often so all of this... It's different for me."

"Everyone should get swept off their feet at least once in their life. The saying implies that it's supposed to be dizzying and slightly confusing so you're probably doing just fine." He managed not to snicker. Seeing Cordy flustered over someone was cute even if it seemed like she had no idea how to handle it. That was probably due to her emotional bottling up but he wasn't about to tell her that.

He leaned against the wall just inside the dressing room. "Let me guess. The other person is bad at expressing themselves? So neither of you are comfortable just telling the other you like them?"

Cordelia paused halfway through the process of trying on the dress, thinking for a moment before she resumed slipping off her shoes. She shimmied out of her jeans, kicking them off as she tugged the dress down before smoothing the soft fabric. If she'd known it was going to be that short she might have grabbed the next size up-- not because she wasn't confident in the way she looked in the simple sun dress, but because it would have drawn less attention to her immediately. Funny how things like that change...

She turned, eying herself in the mirror for a moment before stepping out of the fitting room to get Lysander's opinion, knowing that if she decided she had to have it she'd grab the next size up before heading to the register.

"Emotions can be a lot to handle when you've been through the sort of things that he has-- and it's not that I'm not comfortable telling him that I care about him. I am pretty sure that he knows that I care for him a great deal, I just... I don't want to ruin a friendship like I've ruined others before because I think I might be romantically interested in him." Cordelia resisted the urge to cross her arms over her chest as she paused beside him, turning just enough to give Lys a better view of the dress in an attempt to shift the topic back to shopping.

"Well?"

When she stepped out of the dressing room he smiled, looking her over before reaching out to settle the dress better on her shoulders. "This does look really cute on you so if you're not going to buy it then I'm going to get it for you. Looks comfortable and i know you wouldn't let it just sit in your closet."

He knew he wasn't the best for relationship advice, given his track record with them, but he at least understood where she was coming from.

"I think for you to ruin a friendship you'd have to try to force it or act like the friendship wasn't worth it without the romance and that's just not something I can see you doing. So I think you're safe there."

She reached over to swat at his hand, the gesture halfhearted at best. Cordelia appreciated that she and Lysander had been able to pick up roughly where they'd left off in their friendship when he'd decided to step away from Destiny City for a while. It seemed like something that everyone did... Luc, Lys, Gabbie and Hamish... Now Fritz.

With the exception of Gabbie and her beau, everyone had come back and the world had started turning again. She couldn't just think that things would be any different this time. She'd let enough people wander in and out of her life without saying anything, she couldn't just let that happen this time.

"Thanks, Lys. I'll pay for the dress this time." A light, teasing smirk touched her lips as she slid back into the fitting room to redress herself in her street clothes. "Other than work and shopping are you going to tell me what you've been up to lately? Have you had a chance to catch up with Abby?"

"Oh you know, the usual. Flirting with people i probably shouldn't, crawling into too many beds, and working. My instagram makes my life look a lot more interesting than it actually is." He laughed as he took his hands back, shifting his grip on his purchases so he didn't drop a pair of jeans. "Oh, and running into my ex. That was fantastic."

The last statement dripped sarcasm but he did manage not to roll his eyes.

"I was surprised she wanted to catch up but yea. Kinda sad her sister hopped cities but I'm glad she got into the school she wanted and figured out what she wanted."
