SHADOW RUN
The Shadow Run is both the simplest and most dangerous training course that can be run without a golem. A flurry of continuous attacks is what the Sun Division holds in highest respect, and the course reflects that. The course itself is a simple tunnel, reached via portal. Within the tunnel await hundreds of weak, hungry shadowlings. Nothing to worry about on their own, but capable of overwhelming a Hunter through sheer numbers at the first moment of weakness. At the other end of the tunnel is another portal, leading back to the course observation booth.
If you fail: your character is KO'd, but there's always a senior hunter in the observation booth with enhanced bandages at the ready. They should reach you in time. Really. Trained and trusty professionals on-hand 24/7.
If you win: peen points and bragging rights to those who take out the greatest number of shadowlings and go the most turns without needing to attempt a recovery maneuver.
Mechanics
You must get through 5 waves of attacks to make it through the tunnel.
Simply roll for attack as you would in battle.
If you miss, your character falters in their attacking and is overwhelmed by shadowlings.
After 3 successful hits, you may use your weapon's charge attack.
Bonus Mechanics
This bonus is consumable.
The bonus in this course is in the form of "recoveries" ~ these are would-be missed attacks that are quickly recovered and turned into a successful hit. Basically, they can miss once and roll again for an extra try. If you keep consecutively missing, though, and run out of recoveries, it's lights out. These do not equal an automatic pass for a round, you still have to land a successful hit to proceed.
Trainees: 0 recovery
Sun Trainees: 1 recovery
Hunters: 1 recovery
Sun Hunters: 2 recoveries

It was strange that only three days had passed in reality when in that dream, experience, hallucination or whatever one was supposed to refer to something like that, an entire year had already passed with Alicia and the other hunters stranded on that island. After putting up with the prodding and checking by the guys in the infirmary to declare them a clean bill of health and fit to be reinstated to active duty, Alicia had sat herself down in her room to go over the materials from the recent orientation. The next time when s**t hits the fan and they get thrust into whatever was out there like that, she wanted to be better prepared for it and she was going to do whatever she could in the meantime to achieve that.
Seeing as she had some free time in the morning today before the training session at the pool in the afternoon, Alicia had made her way to the Sun Division training course, figuring that it was a good place to start plus having access to runic weapons would definitely make it worth her while. After listening to the instructions given by the hunter manning the observation booth, she readied her grapple hook gun and started towards the portal that would take her to the tunnel entrance.

Waking up and realizing that he had not in fact been on an island for a year until he was last man standing was startling, worrisome even and in the days that followed, Zane wandered around rather listlessly. He wasn't someone who sprung into action unless forced or provoked and this whole trapped on an island but just kidding it's just a dream BS wasn't helping that.
Yet, here he was, making his way to one of the training courses because there was a restlessness beneath his skin he couldn't shake.
Might as well make himself be productive he mused.
He was only half listening, fingers scratching at the stubble that was almost at the too itchy stage before he wandered forward, spotting a chick up ahead.
"Ah, so this isn't a solo thing?" It was hard to tell if he was disappointed or not.

Being assigned to an outpost in the middle of a clueless-tourist-infested jungle was almost not really like getting stuck on an island for a year. He technically had been there for more than a year and it seemed like he had dealt with all manner of situations involving hunters and fear creatures, but really he'd spent a lot of the time just...walking to and from home base. There was a lot of walking. Hours and hours worth in a single day kind of walking, which meant he didn't get enough time to actually do any serious training.
So being back on the island was nice. It was wide open and there was more to do than walk or man a bunch of TV screens in case some fear creatures started creeping out of the dark places they crept out of.
On today's menu was a training course, and while he was originally going to head for the Mist course again at some point he wound up on the tail of some tall redhead who he just followed in relative silence. Soon enough they were at the Sun training course, which was as good a course as any as far as he was concerned.
"Nope," he answered for the girl who the question was actually directed at. Rhys gave the guy a clap on the back then walked ahead of him, Zephira soon materializing in his hand. "Three's better than one out in the field, right? Let's get this thing done."

Stepping into the tunnel, Alicia fired a shot at a group of shadowlings, nailing five of them at one go. "It can be if you'll rather wait till we're done with it." She chipped in. The number of shadowlings was pretty sparse near the entrance so it should be safe enough for her to turn around for a couple of seconds to see who the voices belonged to which was exactly what she did.
Lifting a hand to wave at Zane whom she recognized from back on the island and Rhys who sounded like this wasn't his first rodeo, she smiled and winked at both hunters. "Or we can have ourselves a little friendly competition with a prize for the one with the highest score if you guys are up for that?"

There was some sort of relief that came with knowing he wasn't going solo. Maybe it would all be a nice easy breeze with them running as a unit instead of going solo.
With Lerna on his arm he gave Alicia a pointed look. "Hey, I'm here no point in just watching." He glanced at Rhys and offered him a lazy grin. "Someone's gotta watch our backs eh?" Team building was a great thing. Really.
Unlike his poor performance on the dream island, when Zane swung with his weapon he was successful.
"Booyah!" He grinned at both of the trainees. "Yeah, let's see who can clock the most."

Rhys followed the other two rather carelessly and tripped on a shadowling as soon as he was in the tunnel. Of course, the little shits took advantage of his stupidity and started overrunning him until he was out like a light. A senior hunter came to pull him out of the tunnel after a ridiculously dumb attempt at the run, very obviously trying to (and mostly failing to) suppress his laugh.Status Wave: 1Attack Dmg: 0 Total Shadowlings taken out: 0 Recoveries left: 1 baby_gwing He would fail. Oh yeah. So far so good. Alicia grinned back at Zane when she counted 9 shadowlings that were dusted in the recent wave. Could either he or Rhys beat that? It was hard to say really at this point but she wasn't going to let them walk over her just because she was a girl.

When she realized that Rhys was for some reason lagging somewhat behind, she turned to peek at him as soon as she deemed it safe to do so without compromising her position.

So far, Zane was feeling pretty good about his capability to handle what was being thrown at him. Of course Alicia had to hit harder than him from the get go, which was almost a bruise to his ego.
Luckily, it only motivated him to work hard and kick her butt. And Rhys's butt too, if the shadowlings didn't get to it first.
"Come on man, you gotta up your game!" He cheered, taking another swing and crushing it to his delight.

Re-entry after having to get his a** saved was a mild embarrassment, but one he was hoping to make up for once inside. Luck was probably on his side, as the other two were a little further up ahead and drawing most of the shadowlings to them. Contest aside (since he assumed he would lose anyway after that first fumble), he kicked at the one measly shadowling that hung around before running to catch up to the other two.
"All good here," he first replied to Alicia, and then turned to Zane. "Gonna try and do better from here on. The little shits ambushed me, the ******** was I supposed to do?" His lip was curled in slight annoyance; he didn't like being told he wasn't doing enough, no matter how true it might have been.Status Wave: 1Attack Dmg: 1 Total Shadowlings taken out: 1 Recoveries left: 1
