Physical Description: Standing at 6'3", Bestla is not only tall, but she is also built like a brick house. She keeps her muscular body well toned and if she has a few scars from knife fighting marring the pale, freckled skin of her arms, so be it. She wears her thick brown and blonde-streaked hair at shoulder length and shaves one side close to the skin. Her eyes are a dark, mossy grey-green color and fringed by long eyelashes. Additionally, she prefers close-fitting clothing and has multiple ear piercings and a hawkish nose.
Personality: In spite of her somewhat formidable appearance, Bestla is a kind soul, willing to give you the shirt off her back if you need it, no questions asked. Due to her upbringing and chosen occupation, she's also learned to value thinking creatively to solve problems. Add to that a soul that is nearly draconic levels of loyal if she cares about you and you have Bestla.
Sadly, her bad traits are almost as spectacular as her good. She's incredibly temperamental, often acting first and thinking (or apologizing) last. And when she does react it is usually with extreme verbal or physical violence. She also tends to have problems with authority figures as she often views herself as one. She can, will and does follow actual laws, but anything beyond that she tends to question (loudly) or ignore outright. And if you are someone she cares about, prepare to be cosseted, smothered and generally treated like a foolish child. Bestla clearly knows what's best for you. Even if you don't agree.

History: Born in Bitra to holdless parents who were indifferent at best, Bestla grew up travelling and learning bits and pieces in each of the holds the family would stop in to replenish supplies. While a trying life, it wasn't terrible and Bestla enjoyed meeting new people. By the time she turned eleven, she was taller than her mother. When she hit twelve, she towered over her father and took to doing anything that would allow her to become stronger. If only to keep herself safe. Her favorite form of 'exercise' was blacksmithing or helping to shift heavy loads.
Around this time, the family passing back through Bitra and Bestla became involved in an altercation that would change her life. Leaving Bestla alone at a guesthold to go off carousing, her parents vanished into the night. Bestla herself was shortly set upon by a pair of thugs who thought the child would be an easy mark.
Bestla left their broken and bloodied bodies on the floor.
An old man in charge of security at one of Bitra's less skeevy brothels saw the fight and immediately went to work cajoling the girl to accept a place at the brothel, not as a whore, but as security for the other girls and boys since those inclined to violence so often never saw a female as a threat. He would train her and she would have a home and not have to wander. Flattered, she told the old man that she had to speak with her parents first and gain permission. Shocked that so young a girl was so big and strong, the old man agreed and waited with her. When dawn came and her parents still had not returned, Bestla sadly concluded that they'd either left her behind or had an unfortunate accident. At that point, she accepted the old man's offer and became the enforcer for the brothel. Brindlee (the old man) taught her every fighting move he knew and from there Bestla taught herself new tricks and variations. She became friendly with most of the whores and clientele and for five turns led a happy enough life.
When she was seventeen, an errand away from the brothel led to her first encounter with a dragonrider from High Reaches. Practically snatched from the road and only grudgingly allowed to send a note to Brindlee, Bestla was taken to the Weyr as a candidate. For two turns, she stood as a candidate. Disliking the stuffy attitude of the weyrfolk, Bestla half hoped to not Impress, if only because then she could beg to be let go.
Only, at the next clutch she stood for, Bestla did impress. Brown Jedith chose her and over the next turn, both worked hard at learning, though Bestla chafed at the High Reaches attitudes. When Thread returned, she saw a way of escape. Begging for and recieving a transfer to Western, the pair found themselves in a much better situation. Of course, fighting Thread is harrowing, but at least at Western, no one looks at her funny or treats her like a freak.

Physical Description: Though on the larger side, Jedith is slender for a brown with legs that are almost too long. While extremely clumsy on the ground in spite of his best efforts, Jedith is graceful and sinuous in flight, often able to turn on a tailtip in spite of his size.
Personality: Jedith is a calm, sweet-natured dragon who never has a poor word to say about anyone. He also has a whimsical streak and delights in using his claws and tail to brush fanciful patterns into the sands outside his own weyr. In fact, so calm is Jedith that he is often able to soothe Bestla's rages before she even is able to think about hurting anyone. Unfortunately, this calm and desire to not speak ill of anyone often leads to Jedith being unable to believe that anyone would act badly. Poor, sweet, trusting Jedith.
