As promised during their last impromptu date, Rory had made time in her schedule to go on a shopping date with her boyfriend for attire befitting arguably the most handsome teacher Knightside Elementary had ever seen. She had also been extraordinarily frugal in the last week when it came to her tip money so that she could buy her boyfriend a gift while they were out as well as treat him to the extra event that she had decided, last minute, that they needed to attend.
The only small detail was that she hadn't informed Akio of this impromptu venture but the teen was certain that he would agree, if only because she asked it of him.
Really, the way he cared for her was more than she deserved.
(Guilt sat heavy with her if she thought too much about it.)
She had arrived at his apartment a few minutes earlier than agreed upon, hair plaited into a crown and her outfit simple but still a little dressier for a proper date. Her skirt sat on her waist and fell to her mid thigh, tall socks coming up to her knees to make up for the sliver of skin she opted to show and her blouse was tucked in, loose and flowy.
Lifting a hand she knocked on his door.

He'd gone through his closet three or four times that morning in an attempt to figure out what to wear for the occasion. It was a date - he was absolutely thrilled at getting Aurora for the day - but it was a date that involved trying on Cosmos knew how many pieces of clothing in the process. He knew better than to bother with a button-up shirt for the extra effort it would take to continuously button and unbutton the blasted thing, but none of his normal shirts seemed appropriate for the date scene. Scrounging through his dresser drawer, he came across a few plain looking ones, a brightly colored Banzai! one hiding beneath the collection. He scrunched his face at the sight and shoved it even further away - there was no way he was wearing that anytime within the next lifetime, thanks. Settling on a pale blue, he slid it on and left the hem of the shirt to dangle instead of tucked, resting atop the belt loops of the dark jeans he'd paired with the shirt. Was it too casual? Would she be disappoint--- The knock on the door let him know that he'd run out of time to decide matters and he shrugged his shoulders indifferently - there were suddenly much more important things to concern himself with. Flinging the door open, he at least gave her enough time (see: three seconds) to process his presence before bending forward and dragging her up against him, tilting his head down to press lips against lips in an overly happy greeting while long fingers toyed with the back of her blouse. "Morning, beautiful," His voice was cheerful, face unable to suppress the width of the smile playing across it, "I can't tell you how happy I am to see you."

Blinking twice, Rory didn't have much time to do anything but let herself be dragged against her boyfriend and have her lips stolen by his. Naturally, her hands slid up his chest, around his neck and drew him down, closer to her level as she pressed up on her toes to kiss him back. It was so easy how Akio made her forget anything but him in the moment and when he pulled away, she sighed happily.
That was how she wanted to be greeted.
"Hi, handsome," she replied, licking her lips as she looked up at him, fingers pressed against the nape of his neck and into his shoulder, fabric wrinkling beneath them. "Well, if you can't tell me..." she paused, trying not to flush as she encouraged herself to keep being forward with him, "maybe you should show me."
The smile she offered was shy, teeth digging into her bottom lip as she gazed up at him, her heart humming happily in her chest.

He pressed her tightly to him, hands rising to play with the intricate way she'd fashioned her hair - it was beautiful, just as she was. "I'm afraid I'd no longer be a proper gentleman, if I were to show you just how happy being around you made me." The word managed to slip out before he could catch himself, Akio suddenly looking sheepish as he realized what he'd just said. Arms released her to her own will as he stepped back, allowing her room to enter his apartment. He busied himself by walking over to the stand by the door, collecting his keys and his wallet, stuffing both into pockets as he cleared his throat, attempting to figure out a quick way to redeem his inappropriate thoughts. "I shall just have to kiss you until you pry me away, instead. Or make a fool out of myself to the point where you no longer wish to be seen in public with me - either, or. Both, perhaps?" A single tanned hand reached out for her in offering. "Would you care for a drink before we take off or shall we get this show on the road?"

"O-oh."
Cheeks flushed pink and Rory stood there, uncertain of how to act or what to say in response to the implication. It was both flattering and embarrassing to know that she drew about such a reaction in a man as charming and attractive as her boyfriend, but, as they discussed, she was far from ready for that sort of intimacy.
"We - " she tried, mind racing as she tried to think of something clever. "We better keep your gentlemanly integrity intact then." With a swallow she continued, stepping into the apartment as she watched him gather his things. "Keep it to kisses appropriate for public spaces, because I want to be seen in public with you." Okay, not her best, but it hopefully smoothed things out well enough.
When offered his hand, her own slid against his palm until their fingers were twined. "No drink but..." she titled her head at him. "After shopping...there's a movie in the park that I'd like us to go see, if that's alright?" Rory had already cleared a later night with her dad, with a curfew of two am being the latest she was allowed. "Pops already agreed, if you get me home right after it ends."

Watching her flustered reaction nearly made it worth it, really. Grinning from ear to ear as he stood there, patiently watching her cheeks light up as she fumbled with her words... there was nothing more precious in the world than Aurora Willows, as far as Akio was concerned. "Kissing in public - I think I can manage that." He nodded his head, sealing the agreement, although he already knew he'd be breaking said agreement with a stolen kiss or two, when the moment took him. Nothing more and nothing less was acceptable for him. Even then, as he ushered her out the door and locked it behind them, he was leaning down to press a kiss against her temple as they made their way out the building, side by side. "A movie? Sounds like fun." Just as she assumed he would be, the young man had no qualms with extending their date into the evening hours. He didn't even bother asking what movie it was that they'd be seeing - as long as it was with her, he'd watch anything. He'd watch paint dry, even. "Where should we start first, d'you think?"

Being with Akio was easy, which made Rory feel all the guiltier when she thought about her affection strayed elsewhere when she allowed it. He was doting and sweet and everything she could have ever hoped for in a first boyfriend and she was still marveled by the amount of affection he showered her with constantly. What she had done to deserve him, she didn't know, but she was endlessly grateful as she shoved stray thoughts away, banished back into the darkness.
"Yeah, someone at the cafe was mentioning it and I..." she shrugged, fidgeting beside him because impromptu wasn't really her thing. "We haven't had a proper date in a bit." Which was entirely her fault and she knew it. "So, seemed...romantic?" And it meant an evening out, instead of spending time in his apartment, which she enjoyed, but it was easy to worry about them getting swept up in things.
This way, they could cuddle and maybe make out and she knew it wouldn't risk going further if only because they were out. Rory knew she had nothing to worry about, Akio said he was fine with waiting and she trusted him.
"Maybe the mall? Some of the department stores will have the best options for ties?"

"If there's enough time to swing back by the apartment, we could grab a blanket, make a few sandwiches," he offered, squeezing her hand gently as he guided them in the direction of the mall, "Or snacks, whichever. Whatever my beautiful girl wants is fine by me." He made a face as she made a mention of ties. He knew he needed to look professional, being a teacher now - but ties? Really? Wasn't wearing a dress shirt enough when it came to herding seven year olds into playing basic musical instruments?? "I guess." New shirts and new slacks made sense - would he need a hair cut too? "As long as you keep me distracted, I'll turn into whatever old fuddydud you think will make the most practical looking teacher."

Everything Akio suggested sounded wonderful and Rory was beaming as a result. "That sounds wonderful." She paused long enough to swing in front of him and stretch to kiss his cheek before tugging him along, walking backward with the trust that he would stop her should she risk running into something. "My handsome boyfriend thinks of everything." A blanket had crossed her mind, but not bringing any sort of treats with them.
At the funny face he made, Rory pouted, trying to take this professional business of her professionally employed teacher boyfriend.
"Hey," she said gently, tugging on his hand as she stopped walking so he would have to stop as well. "If you don't want a tie, we'll find something else. You'll still be the most handsome teacher at that school and the kids will love you." There was so much about him to love anyway, how could they not? Allowing herself to step into his space, she smoothed out a wrinkle on his shirt. "How do you want me to distract you, Akio?"

She slipped in front of him and began to backwalk, Akio's eyes now falling across the prettiest distraction ever, in his opinion. A kiss sent his heart fluttering - she'd liked his idea! - and she seemed very pleased with the thought of their evening date together. How long had it been since they'd spent more than an hour or two together? He couldn't remember - he could merely appreciate the opportunity as it presented itself. Aurora was suddenly pouting at his face - aw, crap. She'd paused in her backwalk to stand there, forcing him to stand there as hands moved up to cup her elbows, raising them up until they were pressed against his chest, just as he liked. "Ties aren't the end of the world. I'm just... not used to the idea of having no one to talk to but a bunch of children. Or spending so many hours away from the girl I like." Like? Did he like her or could it even be --- "I'll wear anything you tell me to wear, beautiful, as long as you distract me with your smile and maybe a kiss or two." He pressed a kiss against her forehead and smiled. "Even if it's horrible and bright yellow. I'd wear bright yellow for you."

Rory knew that she had been a less than stellar girlfriend from her perfect boyfriend who was always doing whatever he could to make sure she was happy. Guilt struck her heart and she did her best to ignore it while she beamed up at him, being drawn in closer by his hands. She was going to be better, tonight her attention was solely his.
"Hey," she said softer this time, brow crinkling as she observed his face. "It's gonna be wonderful okay? You're gonna wanna ditch me for all those cute kids that fawn all over you." She pressed a palm to his cheek and looked up at him with adoration. "Stop acting like you won't see me, I can come by for lunch when work allows it or..." She wrinkled her nose an idea popping into her head. "Why don't you come by every morning, either to my house or the cafe and I'll have lunch for you to take with you to work?"
That sounded like a wonderful compromise, allowing Akio to see her more frequently without detracting from his ability to teach. Plus, then she'd give him better meals. This would require some serious budget adjustments but given everything Akio tried to do for her, it was worth it.
His kiss to her forehead had her eyes closed and she leaned into him. "Anything you wear's gonna look good on you, Akio."

Upon hearing her sudden suggestion, delighted surprise lit up his tanned face, from corner to corner. He bent down to kiss the tip of her nose before murmuring, "What did I ever do to deserve someone as wonderful as you?" Realizing that they probably shouldn't be expressing their dreadfully mushy adoration for one another in the middle of the sidewalk, Akio pushed forward gently, moving one arm to stay wrapped around her side as they walked. He wasn't willing to simply give up on keeping himself tethered to her - if he had his way, he'd be by her side for as long as she allowed him. "You'll have to let me return the favor by making dinner, you know," he commented nonchalantly as sneakers stepped over a large crack in the pavement, "I'll bring it over to your house... even make enough for your Pops to enjoy, if he'd be willing to try it." As much as he'd rather not be subjected to Mr. Willows' presence, he was determined to do what it took to make his girl happy. Even if it meant eating dinner with a man who could probably choke him to death with one hand. Spying the mall in the distance, long legs strolled their way forward, mindful to keep it as a reasonable pace for his much shorter girlfriend to keep up with. "So what colors do you think we should look for first, hm?"

"Hush," she scolded, because she knew that she wasn't the one who deserved a boyfriend like Akio. Before she could protest, however, he was moving them along and providing an equally delightful proposition.
"I'd like that," she said quietly, thinking about dinner with her boyfriend and her father. "We do need to re-introduce you. He's...not exactly happy that I'm dating, but he knows you make me happy so..." Rory wrinkled her nose, thinking about Pops. "I'll ask him about his schedule and we'll pick a date, okay?" Her father's schedule had been fluctuating so much lately that the teen could barely keep track of it any longer.
"Blues and green. Blues to bring out your eyes and...green because it's one of my favorite colors and I bet you would look good in it." A department store entrance was up ahead and Rory was already thinking of what patterns would look best. She wasn't that fashion forward, but she thought she had an idea of what would look good. "Probably gray too." She made a face, like she wasn't thrilled at the idea. "Neutral is always good when you're going professional."
She'd read that somewhere, she was sure.

"I could be down with blue," Thoughts flickered over to his alter ego and the pale color that reflected back at him whenever he glanced into his sea. Blue was more of Seal's color, but Akio couldn't help but embrace that particular side of him - the man was clearly far more dashing than plain 'ol Akio Yoshida, after all. "But green... maybe if it's a particularly turquoise color, I could get behind it."
He grinned, allowing his path to veer to the side, his taller body gently nudging against hers as he forced her into the first forest of clothing racks. Shirts and slacks surrounded them as well as graphic tees off to the corner.
Thoughts of getting to know Mr. Willows better was... well, it wasn't exactly high on his to-do list. The man was terrifying, even moreso with Aurora only confirming the displeasure the father had towards him. Eep.
"Greys are okay - I prefer brighter things, personally." Hands dug through the first rack, eyeing the price on the pair of khaki slacks before shoving them forward. "Do you think black or grey is better, though?"

She rolled her eyes at him, thinking that he was being utterly ridiculous while enjoying the way he continued to shower her with goofy affection and compliments. Rory didn't think that she deserved them, but she appreciated them none the less.
Once they were inside, she was lost to the sea of dress shirts stacked into cubes and pants that lined racks along with a neat display that housed ties. "What size do you wear?" She glanced over her shoulder as she looked through a stack of white shirts that looked applicable for any sort of job setting. She paused however, because she didn't know if they were shopping for anything besides ties. "Are we doing a full outfit or just accessories?"
She would look in the right areas if that was the case, already abandoning her stack of shirts for something a little less formal and more affordable. Rory Willows was great when it came to bargain hunting.
Where was the clearance -
Ah-ha!.
"Grey," she answered as she started to shuffle through hangers.
