Personality: Nate is a pretty closed off guy. He doesn't let others in due to the betrayal he has faced in the past, and he tend to be very secretive. Due to how closed off he is, and how uncaring he is about others, he comes off as cold hearted but really he's not a bad guy. He just has trust issues and likes minding his own business.
Nate is also surprisingly witty and is actually very good at cracking jokes, even though he himself rarely ever laughs. He is extremely intelligent and resourceful as well which allows him to make something out of anything really. Nate enjoys learning and pushing his limits, and basically the only thing he strives for is to become better at inventing.
Fears:
Backstory: The earliest clear memory Nate has is waking up on top of a pile of rubble with a bloody head. He was only a child then, and so he didn't really know how to survive. The first day he was conscious he just sat on top of the rubble waiting to be found by anyone, but no one came. After that he went from house to house, taking food, water, and anything else he thought might be beneficial while looking for other people. But he never did find anyone; everyone in his town was gone.
Slowly with each day memories came back. He remembered his first name after nearly a week of being alone; Jonathan. A few more days later Nate started to remember things like going to the park with his parents, however he couldn't see their faces or remember their names. Being a little boy all alone in a world without many people left Nate was terrified. He had no idea what to do so he just kept searching for things and walking from place to place.
Eventually he fell ill, and was on death's door when a middle aged man found him. He took Nate in even though he knew curing the boy would be a hassle, and for a few good years they stayed together. The man's name was Steve and he was a mechanic before everyone disappeared. While he had the simple job of repairing cars he had a degree in engineering and taught Nate everything he knew about mechanics and building. He was the one who gave Nate the nickname Nate to begin with, stating that "Well if you can't clearly remember who you were you might as well start over. So from now on I'm calling you Nate, and if anyone asks you're my son."
Having very few memories of his parents made it easier for Nate to see Steve as his father. The man was a bit cold in attitude was was warm in his actions. Nate was content living with the man, but as he grew older he noticed weird things that the man would do. He built a lot of things he wouldn't let Nate see, and talked to a lot of people he wouldn't let Nate meet. Eventually Nate discovered that the man was an illegal weapons dealer, and it turned out he had been even before people vanished. Nate was upset about it at first simply because he didn't like being lied to, but he tried to explain to Steve that he could forgive him, but Steve didn't seem interested in hearing it.
He pulled a gun out on Nate and told him that he couldn't trust him to keep his mouth shut. He assumed Nate would just end up getting him in trouble at some point, and so he attempted to kill him. Despite being 12 at the time Nate had already built weapons with Steve and therefore knew to to work most of them too. He managed to run away and grab one of the guns they built together, and pulled the trigger on Steve, killing him.
From that point on Nate took over Steve's business as an arms dealer. He figured since he knew where Steve kept everything, and had the same knowledge as him, he might as well profit off of it all. He started selling weapons to the few people left, but he bargained for food, clothes, water, and other stuff like that instead of cash. Money meant little when there wasn't much left to spend it on.
To this day Nate continues to sell weapons to whoever is willing to give him stuff. After the death of Steve he started to believe that there were no good people left on Earth, so why should he be worried about the type of people who buy his products? Plus he's smart enough to put mini bombs in everything he makes so that if a customer tries to use one of his weapons against him Nate can make the weapon self-destruct.
Likes: Technology, building/inventing, food, smoking, weapons, reading, learning new things, and cool weather.
Dislikes: Psychos(But will still sell to them if they are willing to pay), traitors/betrayal, dishonesty, intense heat, stupid people, and violence(Even though he's a weapons dealer he doesn't like being involved in fights).
Goal: Nate's just taking everything one day at a time. He doesn't really have a goal.
Extra: He has the initials CR tattooed to his fingers because as the years went by Nate has grown to believe that his father's name started with a C and his mother's with an R. He thought maybe if he had a constant reminder of their initials on him he'd remember them. He also has various other tattoos on him.
