          Who: Aydin, Evren, and Zeke
          When: June 6th, 2017
          Where: Lab 305
          Weather: Sunny and seasonably warm!

Now this was an interesting one to be sure. A Kyorinrin? He'd never heard of such a thing before! After making the phone call to Evren, Zeke kept himself entertained by looking into such a soul.

As these things do, one click on Wikipedia lead to another, then another, and before Zeke knew it he was way off the beaten path from where he had started about the Kyorinrin and other tsukumogami and was deep into the bowels of obscure Japanese myths and legends with little sign of getting out anytime soon.

As he read down each page, the idea of the Frei yet-to-be-seen was in the back of his mind. Evren had captured the soul of a creature that possessed papers and scrolls and in doing so had paired it with an Essence that was equal parts mystical and mystifying - the Everlasting Eclipse. He considered what would become of such a duo and how each part in turn would play into the Frei they had come to create.

He imagined a studious sort, someone Xiu might get along with on principle, but where the white Valsaros was, well, white and light, this one would be more dark and...brooding?

He paused in his reading to make a face and shake his head, trying to keep a smile from forming at the thought of a paper mache Batman waiting for him and his new Guardian behind one of the office doors. He failed in that endeavor and continued on reading with a stupid grin on his face. Oh he couldn't wait to see this one!

The call, when it came, went straight to voicemail. Blissfully unaware of the message that awaited him, Evren was busy getting the crowd psyched up for another fantastic Masqued Marauder stage show.

"And I'm counting on your help to defeat the evil plans of the Gruz Empire! Well, boys and girls? Will you help me fight them?"

The dialogue was all pre-recorded, but Evren spoke along as he acted the part, knowing his voice wouldn't make it off the stage anyway. Saying the lines got him really into his role, and that, he knew, would help make the show the best it could possibly be, at least from his angle.

"Then let's all call for Masqued Marauder to come! On the count of three, we'll all call, okay? One, two, three!"

"MASQUED MARAUDER!" the audience shouted.

"I know we can give him more energy than that! One more time! One, two, three!"

"MASQUED MARAUDER!" the audience howled, some of them actually screaming, though whether with excitement or frustration, it was hard to be sure.

Right on cue, the titular hero appeared, perched on top of one of the set's buildings. This was Masqued Marauder's moment, and nobody noticed as Neo Masque slipped off the stage. Removing his mask, he accepted a bottle of water from one of the stagehands and took a swig. There were five minutes until his next entrance, and he needed to cool down before going back under the lights.

"Um, Mr. Candemir?" The assistant stage manager was holding something out to him. "You have a missed call, and a voicemail."

Evren resisted the urge to correct her on her choice of honorifics, and instead took his phone, frowning. Normally, he wouldn't be alerted about a message in the middle of the show. Unless it was something urgent. "Is it my dad? My sister-"

The assistant stage manager shook her head, backing away as Evren took the phone from her. "No, I don't think so. The number showed up as a laboratory. You told us that any correspondence from them was top priority..."

She kept talking, but Evren had stopped listening. Hands trembling, he pushed the voicemail button and waited for the message to play. Had they finally decided his fate? Was he about to learn whether they deemed him fit to be a guardian to one whose demise he had hastened?

He was silent for a moment. The message played. Still frowning, he hit the replay button, and listened again. Then he handed the phone back to the assistant stage manager, his face totally expressionless.

"I have to go," he announced.

"Yes, you're back on stage in thirty seconds. Are... are you alright?"

Evren shook his head. "No, I have to leave. Right now."

The ASM went pale. "But you can't! There's more than half of the show left, and nobody else can take the part now! Are you listening? You can't leave in the middle of-"

Before she could finish, Evren had put his mask back on and ran back out on stage. The next part was supposed to be a fight sequence, with no dialogue, but he pitched his voice to be heard, at least in the first few rows. "Boys and girls! I've just had an urgent call from someone else who is in need of my aid!"

Masqued Marauder edged closer to him, shaking his head. "Ev, what the hell are you doing?" Chris asked.

"But I can't save them alone! I need your power, to be strong enough to help them!" He waved to the crowd, riling them up, and, under the cover of their shouts, muttered to Chris. "I need to leave, right now. Please."

"Seriously? Jeez, Ev." Evren could practically hear Chris rolling his eyes, and wondered if he would have to make a break for it. Instead, Masqued Marauder shouted boldly, "Neo Masque needs our power! Everyone, send your power to Neo Masque! You owe me big time," he added quietly, pushing Evren to the front of the stage.

Everyone was cheering then, and it felt great, and Evren really thought, in that moment, that he could handle whatever the world threw at him. He held his hands to the sky, drinking in the applause that really did power him up, and saluted the crowd. "Thank you, everyone! Thanks to you, I'm strong enough to take on anything! I won't let you down!"

And then he was gone, running up the aisle of the amphitheater, out of the park, and into the nearest cab.

Thirty minutes later, he pulled up in front of the Lab 305 building, his confidence and surety a distant memory. He was a nervous wreck as he bolted out of the cab, telling the irate driver to bill it to GTV - it wasn't like his suit had pockets - and raced into the building, lugging his helmet under his arm.

His haste felt silly now that he was in the Lab, its calm atmosphere contrasting with his inner turmoil. Could this have waited until the show was over (and until he'd changed unto proper clothing)? Probably. But if he was going to do this, he was going to do it right. And that meant putting the Raevan first, just as any decent parent would do with their child.

Evren plunked the helmet down on the reception desk, fidgeting with the clasp. "My... I'm Evren Candemir... I got a phone call... am I really the one you wanted?"

Perhaps it was because of the fantasy he'd just left, but this still didn't really feel real.

((My sincere apologies for the extreme delay!))
