Who: Dani, Magda, and Zeke

Weather: Hot and sunny!
Summer was in full swing now and it seemed to Zeke that they were starting to have a summer baby boom on their hands. The long-awaited Strzyga Raevan was here and ready to go home and she marked the second Frei to be born in as many months. Aydin was June, this one was now July, perhaps a certain other would be due in August?
Oh he just couldn't wait to find out!
As he was on top of things Zeke had already made the phone call to the newest Frei's Guardian, happily announcing her Frei's birth followed by the whole shebang about coming to pick her up when the time was most convenient for her. He chittered on about being at the Lab all day before giving his valediction and hanging up the phone, filling the time between then and now by looking over the file assigned to Daniela Romero and her new charge.
It was comforting to see the Guardian in question was a RN. If anything were to happen - and knowing how the Raevans and the Lab were it was sure to at some point - he was assured Daniela would be able to take care of her own until he or another of the Lab's staff were able to get to them. Plus it was just nice to have another medically-trained person in the roster.
As far as her new Raevan, well, she was sure to be an interesting one! A Strzyga wasn't something you heard of every day - which was another thing she shared in common with her June-born predecessor, oddly enough - and her Essence of Misted Rust was sure to provide some interesting color to her character, among other things. With so many things to consider about her, he really couldn't wait to meet her!

Her not-very-encouraging conversation with her mother behind her, Dani hopped into her Lexus and headed straight for the Lab, determined not to let anything tarnish the rest of the day. It was a happy day, and she was confident that once her mother actually met the Raevan she was bringing home, things would fall into place.
Camila's problem, Dani knew, was that this was all so non-traditional. And even though it had been over two years now since she and Tristan put the final nail in the coffin of their marriage, Camila still held out hope that the two of them would find some way to reconcile. Dani tried hard not to resent that, because she knew it came from a place of love; Camila only wanted for her daughter what she'd had with Dani's father, but that... hadn't been what she and Tristan had. Not really.
"Stop it, Daniela," she muttered to herself, scoping out a parking spot and zipping into it. "You're as bad as she is. Let it go."
She slammed her door with perhaps a little more force than necessary, but doing so made her feel better, and when she turned to face the doors to the Lab, excitement flooded her and overtook every other emotion.
She was here. It was today.
She was bringing home a Raevan today.
The thrill carried her inside, the smile on her face growing with each step she took on her way to locate Zeke. There weren't many people about, but she imagined that wasn't actually far from the norm; she got the impression that the Lab was a fairly tight-knit organization, or maybe people were scarce because there was going to be a pick-up today. She didn't know, but it didn't take her long to get to where Zeke had directed her, and she beamed a bright smile at him when she spotted him.
"You must be Zeke!" She strode over, offering her hand and clutching at her purse with the other, her grip tight in her excitement. "Sorry for the delay. I wanted to do one last sweep of the house and make sure everything was perfect."
She glanced past Zeke, curiosity and anticipation obvious in the way she shifted her weight from foot-to-foot. "Do they know I'm here?"

As things always did there was a merry little jingling sound from the door chimes not too long after the call went out. Zeke, organizing the contents of his desk drawer to pass the time, looked up and met Dani's smile with one of his own and an eager nod to boot.
"And you must be Daniela!" He got up and rounded the desk to meet her halfway, taking her hand in his own and shaking firmly. When that ended, he gave his hand a wave to clear off her apology, shaking his head. "No no, please! You're right on time! And hey trust me, there's nothing wrong with wanting to make everything perfect today, I totally understand!"
Had he not been ripped from work by a certain someone when Anya was born, he would have wanted to have done the same thing. Whether or not it would have actually gotten done would have been another thing entirely, exciting as that time had been.
"They do not, no. Typically Freis are a bit groggy after first being born, although that's not the rule of thumb." He swept his hand to the desk he had left, gesturing to the two chairs positioned in front of it. "But we'll get to them very shortly, I promise! Please, take a seat! I'm sure you have a ton of questions but can I offer you a drink or anything? I do have to run over the final bits of Guardianship with you before we head off but I'll save the real boring stuff for last after you meet your Frei."
He swung around to his side of the desk and tapped a hand over the folder with Dani's name on it. Paperwork was what he meant. He could explain the legal stuff in layman's terms easily enough but who wanted to bother signing when there was someone more important to meet first?
"Although since we're speaking in gender neutral terms right off the bat and while I know you must have a TON of questions I hope you don't mind me asking you one first - would you like to know their gender now or would you prefer to wait until I take you to them?"

If there was one thing Dani understood, it was the necessity of getting all the paperwork in order before you did anything. She'd been in charge of handling her father's estate when he passed, because her mother had been too overwhelmed and grieving too desperately to handle it, and that could have very easily been a nightmare. It had already been difficult, and she'd turned right around and organized all of her own affairs after the experience, making sure that every i was dotted and every t crossed.
So, Zeke would get no argument out of her.
She sat and swept her hair over her shoulder, her smile bright and giddy, even though she was doing her best to reign in her excitement. "No, thank you. I had coffee on my way over. And Dani is fine. You can run me through the whole gauntlet right now if you want - it'll probably be easier for me to focus on getting everything squared away now rather than after I meet them."
At the question regarding gender, Dani thought about it and then said, "I'd like to know the gender, please. I have a list of names," she added, placing her hand over her purse, "so they can pick from it with me, but... Yeah, I want to know."

"Dani, got it!" He gave her a thumbs up as she took her seat, and sat down promptly in his own when the offer of a drink was declined. Getting right to it? He wouldn't argue with that!
"Well then you will be pleased to know that you are the Guardian to a lovely young lady!" His grin was massive as he spilled those beans, tapping his hand over her file to indicate that was where he got the information for himself. "She was born this morning and has passed her post-birth check ups with flying colors."
Anything out of the ordinary would have been mentioned otherwise. For Raevans this meant a fin instead of wings or other curious traits did not count as those were typically features of their souls or even Essences in some cases.
"So you have a happy, healthy baby girl. Congratulations!
"Now as for the final bits for you to know...Basically most of it will be paperwork but that's the boring stuff I like to save for the end. The legal jargon in a nutshell is basically that you accept full responsibility for your Raevan and if at any time if you feel you can no longer take care of her, you will return her to the Lab for rehoming, no questions asked." He doubted this would be much of an issue. The Lab did see the occasional rehoming but they were so few and far between that even the long winded legal terminology was especially brief on paper. "Other than that you'll be signing to also promise to give periodic updates on her development which can be done via submitting a report, contacting us via phone or email, or bringing her in for physicals."
Most opted for the physicals. It was a two-for-one sort of thing which was especially nice on his end as well - he could see that the Raevans were developing as normal for their kind and also make sure they were physically, emotionally, and mentally healthy as well. Plus it was just nice to see the changes between the homing of a newborn and their first physical.
"And that's basically all that in a nutshell! Now I turn it over to you - do you have any questions, Dani? I'm happy to answer anything and everything you'd like to know before we go and meet you girl!"
