Then chewed on the latch and worked it open and slipped out of its cage and started exploring the wide open space. He scurried over the ground his nose close to the ground picking up the scent of scattered crumbs of muffins and all sorts of treats that delighted his curious taste buds.

Once the rat had finished off any tidbits it could find it wandered over near the door of the dorm room and waited for someone to come and open the door. There was a big world out there full of interesting smells and tastes and Santiago was itching to get into everything he could before his owner came back to find him missing. He didn't have to wait too long before the door opened and he immediately scurried out between the kid's feet as fast as his little legs could carry him.

User Image Trevor had just come into the Slytherin Common room from class and heard shrieks from every girl in the room and glanced down to see his pet rat Santiago fly through his feet and escape out the door that another kid had just come in."Dang it!" He cried and dropped his books on the floor and ran out after his rat. "Santiago! Come back here you little escape artist!" He cried and tried to catch sight of where his rat might have gone. He finally went up the stairs and started going down halls in search of his pet. How had his rat gotten so fast? He wondered as he searched the halls.

Arona had gone to the library after her last class of the day, "Grand-père was always able to make History fun, I didn't know it was possible for someone to drone on like that. That was hard to endure." she signed.

She spent a few hours at the library because going down to the great hall to get herself something to eat before finding a place to just work on writing for a bit. She noticed a lack ofk students and options, which really didn't bother her much. She took out a handkerchief and open it, and put some bits of ham, cheese, bread, and grapes in her handkerchief, then tied the corners together, before filled a tanker with pumpkin juice.

Once she had her snack pack she left for a place to do some writhing. She found herself wondering down a few flights of stairs where she was somewhere between the ground floor and dungeons. She managed to get up into a window space and made herself comfortable before reopening the handkerchief and putting a grape in her mouth, not knowing she dropped some crumbs in getting to were she was.

He stopped and sniffed, his long whiskers spreading out to help aid him in picking up smells. Then he was scurrying off even faster than before. He practically pounced on the small tidbit of cheese that had been dropped on the ground and devoured it in one hurried bite.

He continued on eating the small pieces of food he found on the stone floor. He had paused and his nose worked faster when he came to a staircase. His tail twisted in a small curly cue on the ground when his nose picked up the scent of cheese again. He didn't seem to notice or care that the cheese in question was in the possession of a girl. He climbed up the wall, towards the window where the girl was seated. His small claws easily keeping hold of the brickwork as he climbed, he finally made it to the window and plopped himself down on the girl's leg and scurried up her to where the napkin was sitting.

Was on her thrid paragraph since she sat down when she felt something scurry up her leg. Which made her scream out of surprise and swing at the thing that was on her. It was just a moment after when she realized it was a rat, and a few ticks after that realize that it was oddly colored. "Oh you're someone's pet." she said feeling bad at hitting it against the window. "It was a reflex." she admitted before glancing at the napkin, "Oh that's what you wanted." she realized then put the cheese closer to the little rat. She'd seen bits of some rat skeletons before in Fudge Brownie's pellets, it was just a shock.

She then looked down around to see if anyone was missing their rat. "Is there some place to go for when you lose your pet?" she pondered to herself.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Santiago's ears rang from the sudden shriek and he stopped moving to tremble and squeak in fright. He clung to the fabric tightly so not to go flying off. His heart was beating ten times faster than normal when the movement finally ceased. His whole body was twitching and he couldn't pull his claws free from the cloth they had gotten stuck in.

When he heard the voice, this time much calmer and friendly sounding the rat turned it's head up to look up into the face he body belonged to. His nose twitched and he sniffed at the creature. His nose picked up the scent of the cheese when it was moved closer to him. He slowly worked his claws free and inched closer to the cheese and reached out to grab a big piece and snarfed it down quickly. He sniffed again and stuffed his face with the food on the napkin now not caring what he ate.

User Image Trevor was going up a set of stairs when he heard a girlish shriek coming from the first floor. With a colorful curse under his breath, he ran towards the source of the shriek. Undoubtedly Santiago had found someone to frighten again.

When he finally located the windowsill where the girl was seated he stopped looking a bit stunned to see Santiago resting on her stomach eating away at a pile of food that she had on a napkin. He caught the end of her words and couldn't help but laugh at the thought of a lost pets corner at Hogwarts.

"Undoubtedly if there was one, Santiago would be there every day of the blasted week. This little sneak can open his cage," He said shaking his head and moving closer towards his unsuspecting rat who was still munching away at what appeared to be the girl's lunch.

"On the behalf of Santiago, I apologize for his frightening you." He told the girl as he reached to put his hands around the rat and picked him up without touching her at all. "You little sneak! I think I may have to get one of those magically locking cages to keep you in." He told the rat and scratched behind Santiago's ears before gently moving the rat into his shirt pocket and poked the rats head down inside.

"Is there some way I can make it up to you?" He asked politely. "I could get you some more lunch to make up for his devouring most of yours," He suggested.
PostPosted: Sun Jul 30, 2017 10:33 pm

Arona chuckled "Well he didn't frighten me as much as he startled me." She admitted closing the book quickly so he couldn't read it. "It's much more unsettling when you're not really expecting it." she admitted.

When he took the rat Arona sat up in the sill and looked down at him. "I did kind of whack him in reflex, so I think you don't really need to make it up to me." she said feeling a bit bad and embarrassed about it.

She then saw his crest "Oh you're a Slyitheren huh? my cousin is one too, though he's a fourth year." she said "I'm Arona BonHomme." she added wiping her quill and corking her inkbottle. "They have the aviary for all the owls you think they would do accommodations like that for the other pets," She said then thought some more. "Then again not all the owls in there are student owls."

"It was more so a snack since lunch was already after the time. I was working on a few History assignments, trying to figure out how my grand-père would explain it. Because he's a Historian. I never new History could be so boring till I got here. It's like standing at a party with out any music." she admitted "It wasn't much though just some cheese, meat, and bread... and some napkin too by the looks of it. Hope he'll be okay with that. Besides vegetables and cheese I don't really know what is healthy for a rat." she said putting the last of her things back in her book bag.

Trevor smiled at the girl's chuckle. He looked her over as she talked. She seemed like a nice enough girl, though he wasn't normally the type to hang out with them. "That's good I guess, girls who are afraid of him usually start whacking on me." He said with a grin. "Yeah, the little bugger unsettles a lot of people. He's a right little sneaker," He added glancing down at the small head that was peeking out of his pocket.

He eyed Santiago for a moment when the girl said she had whacked him. "He seems okay to me, if you had hurt him he'd be squealing and making a lot more noise." He told her.

Trevor smirked slightly when she noticed his crest finally and mentioned it. "Yes, yes I am." He said rather proudly. "Oh you do? What's his name?" He asked a bit curious. He'd heard of a few fourth-year students, which their Head of House had said were in the tops of all their classes. Probably to let them know that much was expected of them, even as lowly first years. "Nice to meet you Arona, I'm Trevor Studwick," He replied with a grin.

He would have offered her his hand but noticed she was putting away her writing supplies. "What were you working on? Homework already?" He half teased. He had noticed her own crest, and didn't really care if she was a Gryffindor. So what if their houses were rivals? He planned on being friends with anyone that was willing to be his friend. He didn't care what his house mates might say.

"That would be the smart idea, then again I imagine they'd need a staff member to man it. Maybe they just don't have the resources for yet another staff member. I don't think that Janitor guy would be willing enough to take on yet another job." he reasoned, recalling the man's grumpy attitude when he had met him."Not to mention, kids would want to bring other pets, that possibly wouldn't be a good idea to have at school." He added.

Trevor moved to lean against the wall petting Santiago's head while Arona started talking again. He made a face when she mentioned History class and sighed. "Yeah, tell me about it. It's such a bore fest. If we had something to liven up the class, like moving pictures or even artifacts to look at during the lessons it would keep us much more engaged. With his monotone, ugh, it makes me want to just sleep."

Trevor couldn't help but laugh when she mentioned that Santiago had eaten part of the napkin. "Ah well, his stomach is like iron. I'm sure he'll be fine. Rats are scavengers, they're used to eating odd things. Though normally I feed him rat feed that I got from the familiar store, he gets bored of them. He likes a variety. I can't really blame him. Those pellets look like cardboard and utterly tasteless. I should take him outside so he can catch some insects. One thing he's useful for is eating all the insects in our dorm room. I haven't heard a cricket since the first night he got out." He said with a happy grin.

Trevor noticed she was putting her things into her bag and moved away from the wall. "Where are you headed? Maybe I can walk with you and we can continue talking?" He asked politely. He found the girl rather interesting and wanted to get to know her a bit better.

Arona nodded "Well as long as he's alright, that's what counts, and no I have a twin brother and a little brother, so... yeah. At least it was me and not my older sister." she said.

"His name is Dorian, he's the one with the green hair." she said figuring there weren't too many in Slyitheren with green hair that were also fourth years. "Nice to meet you too Trevor."

"No I was working on a personal project I've did most of my homework already." she smiled, "It's not quite ready yet."

"Yeah I guess you do have a point," she admitted, "I didn't think about how many workers might be needed for that. I guess that might be because Fudge Brownie is an owl and when he's not around that I can find him at the owl aviary." she admitted.

"Hmm no I wasn't heading anywhere in particular, I just figure if I'm not going to be writing that I might as well put the rest away. So I don't accidently forget it." she explained before hopping down out of the window and then looking at him. "It doesn't seem as odd to speak to me when I'm down where they can see me better, for most people. To be honest I don't know how I tend to get up into high places most the time, because they tend to not be as easy for most climbers. I just able to do it." she said with a shrug, "Tends to make a good hiding place to write and think of new ideas."

"He's fine, no need to worry. Two brothers and a sister? Sounds like a big family. I just have one older sister, at least she's not afraid of my rat. From your comment, I gather your older sister must not care for rats at all." He chuckled. "I'm not surprised, most girls don't."

Trevor's eyes widened when she told him the name of her older cousin. He'd noticed the older boy quite a few times, he had one of the most interesting hair colors he'd seen before. He seemed like an interesting guy, though he'd never actually gotten to talk to him or anything. Older kids were harder for him to approach.

"I have heard of Dorian, we're always hearing that we need to do well in our studies and he's one of the students they say we should be more like. I'd need a lot of tutoring to do that well though," He said ruefully.

He smiled a bit wider when the girl said it was nice to meet him. He was rather glad that she was one of the few gryffindors that didn't seem to mind that he was in a rival house. He himself didn't really understand why there was so much animosity between their houses.

"A Personal project? What's it about?" He asked curiously.

He had never really met a kid that would spend their free time doing a project willingly. It must be something that was of great interest to her.

"I've still got a few assignments left," He said sighing a bit. "If Santiago hadn't gotten out I'd be half way finished by now. Guess I can tackle them later." He said shrugging.

Trevor was a bit surprised when Arona agreed with him. No one had ever done that before. It felt rather nice to know that his thoughts weren't stupid. Which seemed to be what his sister and parents usually told him. Then again most times his ideas normally had to do with doing extreme and dangerous stunts, so that shouldn't be a surprise.

He laughed when she said she had an owl named Fudge Brownie. It was such an unusual yet cute name for an owl. "Just how old were you when you named your owl?" He couldn't help but tease. "Owls do seem to be the easier pets to find, not to mention they tend to come to you." He agreed.

Trevor nodded at her explanation for putting away her things. "Well, that makes perfect sense." He moved back a little to give her some space once she had hopped down from the window sill.

"It doesn't seem that high to me, it doesn't seem all that high though," He said eyeing her and the height of the window sill. "Then again I'm always trying to climb up the astronomy tower or the owlery for fun. I have yet to conquer them but one day I will." He proclaimed determinedly, puffin g his chest out a bit.

"It does look like a good place to hide. I'll have to remember to come here when I'm looking for you." He said with a smile. "That is if you don't mind me seeking you out for conversation or to just, you know, hang out."

Trevor suddenly felt a bit nervous, wondering how she might take the idea of him wanting to spend time with her. Some girls normally took it the wrong way, or so he had discovered the hard way.

"Maybe I'm moving too fast, but you're a cool person. I wouldn't mind talking to you more," He said glancing at her and then looking away quickly.

Why was it always so awkward for him to try and make new friends? he'd been at Hogwarts for a month or more and still didn't have a single one. Well other than his cousin Jacques, but he seemed busy these days. That was what the problem was with school, the work just ate up all their free time. Perhaps he'd have to seek out his cousin that weekend and see if they could do something together.

"Well that is good, and actually it's relatively average sized, there are bigger families then those with four kids." she admitted. "And yeah she's not really their biggest fan." she agreed
"Well with everyone's schedule being different it's not that hard to have a hard time finding time to talk with an upperclassman." she admitted "Though they or a Ravenclaw might be the best tutors." she said
"Well that's why it's personal, I don't have to tell because it's for me, until I think it's ready for the public that is. But that normally doesn't happen till I'm closer to finishing it." She grinned. "If it wasn't personal then I wouldn't have said that it was. However it can be anything from a story, to a pome, a song or any of the three."

"My Grand--père says, that things happen for a reason and if you don't learn from them it is easy for it to happen again." She said, "So I guess you could say that we were going to meet anyway." she added explain what it meant.

"How old was I? I got him as a gift for my birthday last year, since my birthday isn't till after the school year starts I had to wait." she chuckled "It was kind of him who picked the name. But his brown colors do kind of make you think of those foods so it does fit. We had a lot of things that day Fudge and Brownies being a mung them. He kind of responded to it so we figured that's his name. However not all owls are exactly well behaved."

"No, I guess it's not like being in the rafters of a building." she admitted looking at the window "But on the other hand, it's not exactly level with the floor ether." she said holding her hands like a scale.

"Sure, why not." she said "Sounds like it could be fun." she admitted though when his demeanor changed she raised an eyebrow as to why.

She looked in the direction he was, "Did you hear something?" she asked

Trevor shrugged at her reply that her family was average sized. "I guess so, I wouldn't really know. It seems big to me cause there are only two kids in my family." he explained. He smirked slightly at her comment about her sister.

Trevor's eyebrows worked up and down as Arona spoke about everyone having different schedules and that it wasn't hard to talk to older students. "Not always, sometimes they're kind of intimidating." He said being perfectly honest. "I guess it's different for me cause I have to be careful who in the Slytherin House I approach. Some of them can be pretty mean," He said with a sigh. "Not that your cousin is. I haven't really seen what he's like yet."

He listened to her explaining why it was personal and then shrugged. If she didn't want to tell him what it was then that was her choice. He figured whenever she did finish it and she wanted to share it she might do that. Until then he'd just be patient.

"Oh so you like to write? That's cool Do you play any instruments?" He asked wondering if she ever tried to put her songs to music. "Do you write music too? Or do you just set your songs to music other people write?"

Trevor couldn't help but grin at her reasoning that the two of them were meant to meet. He nodded. "That's an interesting way to put it."

He forced himself to stop laughing when she explained why she had named her owl Fudge Brownie. "Sorry for teasing you about that, it just seemed like a strange name to me." He said looking a bit apologetic.

Trevor couldn't help but cover his mouth with his hand to muffle the laugh that threatened to come out when Arona held her hands out to compare the differences between rafters and the window height. It just seemed rather unusual to him.

Trevor was a bit relieved when she didn't make a big deal about spending more time with him. He glanced back at her and shook his head in answer to his question. "You really think that?" He asked curiously. "I guess there's a first tine for everything." He murmured. "Uh no, just a nervous habit of mine," He explained. "Some girls tend to think I'm interested in them in a different way and that just makes me uncomfortable. At least you're not like them." He said with a small smile. "So then, are you still hungry? I have yet to actually get food. And I still have blood homework," He muttered. "Drat. What are your plans for the afternoon?" He asked starting to walk down the hallway.

PostPosted: Mon Aug 21, 2017 3:30 pm

Arona looked at him then nodded, just kind of shrugging it off. Figuring it really didn't matter the sizes of one's family.

She listened to his points and had to agree Slyitheren wasn't really known for the same amount of hospitality as someone in Hufflepuff, in fact that was really one of Hufflepuffs strengths now that she thought about it. "I guess I didn't really think about that. I wonder if it's because I have older siblings, and cousins in the school so it's easier for me to find someone if I need help. I guess other Gryffindor's and those in Ravenclaw might also find older students intimidating." she said with a shrug.

She nodded to his question, "Yeah it's really calming, and helps sort out thoughts and/or feelings." she explained. "As to the instrument one, I've been wanting to learn some but I don't really know what one I want to learn. There's so many picking one is difficult," she admitted a little embarrassed before adding, "But when I'm writing lyrics I do have a tune in my head when I sing it Capella."

"It sounds better then it just being by chance." She smirked.

She shook her head "No it's different, and a little strange, It does kind of sound like a name a little kid would make, it's alright."

She chuckled slightly not meaning for it to happen, "Well I do have a brother for a twin, and both of Mère's brothers also married men. So I didn't really think anything unusual. It's a shame that other girls would think you're looking for something. They really narrow their friend window if they don't want to know someone, biased on their house, or gender." she admitted.

"I'm pretty free this afternoon, and yeah since your little Houdini ate most of my snack. I should get some more food." she laughed a little.

"So what homework is it that you haven't worked on yet, maybe I could help?" she asked

Trevor listened to her words, thinking that she was rather lucky to have older siblings and cousins that could help her. He had a cousin, but Jacques was the same age and most the times didn't know much more than he did when it came to what he needed help with. "You really are lucky to have family that can help you with things that you find difficult. I kind of wish I had someone like that." He thought about it for a moment. "Hey, maybe you can introduce me to your cousin. Do you spend time with him on the weekends at all?" He asked trying to think of a time when he could meet the older Slytherin.

He figured it might be less daunting if she were the one to introduce them. Plus then the older kid might not be too annoyed with him randomly introducing himself. Why was it he was so fearless when it came to climbing up high places but when it came to staring up at a taller older kid it scared the crap out of him? Probably because older kids tended to have an idea of how to torment younger ones without them telling.

"Huh, maybe I'll have to try and write more often." He mused after she explained how it helped her sort out her thoughts and feelings. "There are a lot of instruments to choose from." He agreed. "I bet if you asked the choir teacher, I bet he'd love to help you find one." He suggested.

He imagined that she probably hadn't sung any of her songs for anyone before. She had said they were private. Still, it was cool that she had such a creative hobby. He wasn't so much into those types of hobbies. He preferred to be active more than sitting around writing or drawing.

Trevor grinned widely at her smirk and nodded. "That is definitely true. I guess we have Santiago to thank for us meeting. Who knew a rat would be good at bringing two friends together." He said with a happy smile.

Trevor was relieved that she hadn't taken his teasing the wrong way and nodded. "I suppose if I had gotten my rat at a younger age, I would have called him something unimaginative or silly like Ratty or Ratguts. I wasn't the most thoughtful when it came to names." He admitted.

Trevor wasn't sure why she had laughed until she explained that she had more men in her family than most. "I think they just want boyfriends too fast," He admitted. "Like they want to grow up way too quickly. I am more interested in doing stupid things and acting my age." Trevor admitted. He was glad to hear that Arona was more relaxed about the whole boy/girl thing.

Trevor shot her an apologetic look. "Well if the lunch hour is over, we may have to raid the kitchen for some. Have you ever done that before? I've managed to get in and out a total of two times before the house-elves noticed me and threw me out." He admitted with a laugh. "At least they didn't let me go hungry." He added.

He paused in the hallway to screw up his face and ran his hand over his chin trying to recall just what homework he had to finish. "Well..I think I have at least three assignments to finish for tomorrow.I've started on two of them, I just need to go over them again and rework a few parts. You'd want to help me? Well..okay. It might go faster." He said with a grin.

"Maybe we should get that food first, and meet up somewhere to work on it? I'm not sure where maybe the little hideaway spot you were in earlier?" He suggested.

PostPosted: Fri Oct 06, 2017 8:38 pm

Arona smirked a bit, "I could try to arrange it, but once you hit third year you get more classes, or is it fourth?" she said then questioned quietly to herself. "Ether way, I can't really speak for Dorian on whether he'd meet someone, but I'm sure he would." she added.

"I know it's not for everyone but I find it helps as long as you don't focus on trying to make amazing entries each time." she said with a small nod.

"That is vary possible that he be able to help pick them out but then again I might be tempted for more then one too." She said at the thought of having a teacher help her pick an instrument to play. "Guitar and lute are great leads, drums keep the tempo from going wrong, piano and violin are so elegant. and there are the odd balls like bagpipes or ukulele. Any would be good instruments.... I guess the bagpipes would be more likely to show up here then the ukulele, given the bagpipe's history." she chuckled a little. "It would be more likely that an orchestra type of drums would be here too.... So that would take out steel drums and most of the African war drums. It could be ether way for a more traditional set" she then blinked and looked at Trevor. "That's kind of why I had trouble picking in the first place, picking what would work in a song is a bit like..... well I guess teaching Santiago good manners, not impossible but really really really hard to do."

She nodded, "Yes it does seem quite unlikely." she agreed. "I'm just glad I brought my floating inkwell holder so he didn't get all rainbow from my mood changing ink, though I guess it would tell you what mood he was in till it dried." she chuckled a little at that. "It stays in the color your mood was when it dried. she added not knowing if he knew about that silly girl game ink or not.

She nodded, "Santiago is a fine name for such an unusual colored rat, I guess my owl being brown it's simple in comparison." she admitted

"That's a shame, we're only 11 year olds, We have plenty of time for stuff like that when we're older. Besides school work should keep us busy enough as it is as first years. Then again my sister has already asked me if I find anyone cute. She's a bit much, so I'm sorry in advance." she added knowing her sister did like to butt into other people's business, and also play matchmaker.

She chuckled "It took them that long to notice you? You getting lesson's from your rat in sneaking?" she joked "Don't they keep snakes in the Great Hall for those who like to snack?" she asked she didn't really know since she didn't really need to go back to get more food before.

She nodded "Yes food would be best to get first. I don't know if that window would be big enough for the two of us but I'm sure we could find some place just as good." she smirked. "After all I'm sure there are a lot of places to climb up into. Though I really don't know how I find them sometimes. But sure makes for a good place to hide from nosy older sisters."

Trevor thought over her question. "I think you get to choose extra classes for your fourth year at the end of your third year," He said. "At least that's what I recall hearing." He said looking over at her. "Well if he doesn't have time I understand." He shrugged.

"So as long as you just write something every day. I suppose you can go back and edit them later as well." He added thoughtfully.

He couldn't help but smile when Arona started talking about all the instruments that she liked and why they would be what she might like to play. It was rather easy to figure out why it made it hard for her to choose just one to play. He chuckled at her comparison of teaching Santiago good manners to her trying to pick just one instrument. "Well now I understand why it's so hard for you now. Maybe you should think of what composers normally play. Maybe just start out with piano or guitar. Those aren't too hard to start with. At least that's what I've heard."

He couldn't help but chuckle at her talking about mood changing ink on Santiago. "I don't know if he has many moods though. Mostly hungry, hungrier, annoyed, and happy are the emotions he has the most. At least that's what I've noticed over the year I've had him.' He said with a laugh. "I guess I was lucky to get a colorful rat. It amazes me that there are animals that are unusual colors. He kind of looks like he got painted or spray painted."

Trevor was relieved to hear that she agreed with him on the whole dating thing. "I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks that way. I would think so too. There's a lot of work to keep us busy enough." He agreed. He shot her a wary look when she mentioned her sister. "Thanks for the warning, I guess we will just have to be sure to tell her that we're just friends." He said shrugging.

He grinned at her chuckle and her joke. "I can be pretty quiet when I need to be. Maybe." He said with a laugh. "Do they? I haven't actually checked there before." He admitted. "I guess I will have to do that the next time I get peckish."

Trevor thought over where they might go instead and remembered the balcony over the front entrance that no one ever used. "I think I know a good spot for us to go," He said. "Shall we check out the Great Hall and see if there are still snacks then?" He asked as they walked down the staircase and towards the ground floor. "Nosy older sisters can be pretty annoying," he agreed.
