The infirmary was in utter shambles, lights flickering and machines beeping incessantly. It was the last place that Nash wanted to be, but, well...he had a patient to visit, and it was better than listening to October's lectures about responsibility (about the importance of not having any), so here he was.

Nash stepped over a broken IV pole and weaved his way through the crowds of people to find Sonja, peering through ragged curtains.

"Yo. You here? Sonja?"

Her memory was splotching. Patches of light and hushed voices had flowed much of her senses before she had awoken the first time to find herself on a make-shift cushion underneath her, her coat bundled up beneath her head and her mask laying beside it within arms reach. Arms that she noticed were wrapped up and felt like lead blocks... Wonderful.

It wasn't the best but it beat hard cement or the prickling sand of the desert. Ugh... Such terrible memories she'd have of sand for the next couple of months, for sure.

Thankfully there had been a curtain to keep herself secluded off from the chaos beyond. Just enough to give her several hours of sleep here and there. Til she heard someone... She honestly didn't have the energy to scramble for her mask... Oh well.

"Hey..." She waved a bandage-clad arm up with a faint smile. "Was hopin' you'd be alright. Look a hell'ava lot better than me."

She looked like hell, which he said after giving her a brief once over, unceremoniously and probably unkindly, but, well. It was Nash, so she shouldn't have expected anything different, even if he didn't know her that well at all. Nash's particular brand of sarcasm was borderline rude sometimes, which October kept trying to curtail, but he'd spent too much time talking to Dean and the twins.

"You look like you were just attacked by a giant centipede then mowed over by an eighteen wheeler," said Nash, whose own mask was securely fastened around the lower half of his face. "But at least you're alive and still kicking and s**t."

He looked around for a chair, found one a few feet away, and kicked out a leg, hooking an ankle around it and dragging it over. Nash plopped himself down into it, stretching out comfortably.

"So. What do you think of Deus so far?"

"Just be lucky you ain't dealin' with this s**t." A low grunt rumbled from her chest but there was a clear smirk still painted across her face. A short chuckle even left her before a string of 'ow, ow, ow's left her. Damn, even laughing hurt.

But the snark was welcome. She'd put up with similar talk from the very kids she watched out for back in the city and she'd taught them as such! Surviving the ways they had to were hard and she had wanted to make sure they could be tough... Especially for the times she couldn't be around.

"Hah... I'd be damned if I let those over-sized pests actually take me down..." I have too much that I gotta do...

What did she think of Dues...?

"It's alright. Food and a roof over my head. What more could a girl ask for?" She gritted her teeth as she shifted herself to make her shoulders hurt a little less and to get a better angle at resting her head.

"Beats bein' exposed and starving..." Her mouth shifted to a quick toothy smirk before settling herself down a little better.

"I have to deal with the twins and Dean," said Nash, gaze flickering across Sonja's face. "That's enough s**t for me to handle all at once, they're a bunch of ******** losers."

It was said, however, with mingled exasperation and amusement and a tiny bit of affection as well, because while Nash was not exactly a sentimental guy, he cared a lot about the rest of the plaids and their well being.

Even if he would never actually say that to their faces.

"You're too badass to let them take you down," said Nash airily, and kicked his feet up on the edge of the bed, folding his hands together in his lap and looking the very picture of being at ease, minus the bruises on his face and the fact that, underneath the million layers he was wearing, he had scrapes and scratches galore.

"Well, yeah, no s**t," he said, giving Sonja a pointed look. "But I mean, the people here are kinda batshit, I think. I don't know what I think of them all yet, some of them seem a little..."

He made a circling gesture with one finger at his ear.

He couldn't fool her. Her smirk softened.

"Oh, whatever, you'd watch their asses from hell and back. They're your losers." She couldn't help bright grin before rolling herself onto her back, looking up at the ceiling.

"Damn ********' right I am!" A choked-out laugh bubbled up as she swatted at Nash's invading foot. While it was easy for her to boost her own ego... It was still nice to hear it from others. Being riddled with bruises, gashes and past-scars must had made her quite the picture.

"Pfff, oh well, yeah. I'd think you'd kinda have to be. What sane person could go through what we just did and would still be able to shoot s**t like this?" She gestured to between them with a wrapped arm before resting it across her stomach.

"Now if people start goin' crazy on each other," She waggled her finger a bit before flicking her wrist.

"Ain't want nonna that s**t." It was possible. And that did worry her. Like a tiny, tiny claw in the back of her mind.

Nash made a derisive snort in the back of his throat was clearly meant to indicate that he sure as hell would not; except he didn't deny it because it was, of course, entirely true. As ridiculous and bratty and obnoxious as the three of them were, he would have done almost anything for them.

Almost.

Almost.

Nash shot Sonja a grin, which she couldn't really see with his mask on, but his eyes were full of it anyway. He twisted one of the wristbands on his left arm, an idle gesture just for something to do with his hands while he made himself comfortable.

"Ugh. I don't want to have any of us going crazy on each other, that sounds like utter s**t. I haven't even talked to any of the other hunters about anything, I probably should. Get a feel for how things are around here, though if that trek through the desert is any indication..."

Nash shrugged grandly.

"Well, we'll just kick some more centipede a**."

"Monsters and s**t. Those are easy to size up and hard not to hold back against but yeah... I haven't talked to too many hunters either so I can't really say much about them."

"It'd help to know what people I can trust to have at my back."

She idly inspected her arms.

"Or who's gonna drag my a** away from a fight, kicking and screaming." The hearty smile that spread across her face was brief but genuine, none the less.

She had had her own group back in the city. People that she had been with for years. Now she had to somehow do that all over again? Whatta pain. But she'd try. No matter how much work it was sure to end up being.

Nash's gaze went sideways towards Sonja, eyes filled with a faint sort of amusement. He couldn't say that he didn't understand it; he had the stupid twins and stupid Dean and Alice as well to keep him company, to watch his back and he would watch theirs, as much as he could. Being here alone meant trying to do all of that on your own, and it was never easy.

Nash leaned back, fingers linked together behind his head.

"Don't worry," he said, "I'll get one of the twins to drag you out from the fire next time. Or I'll do it."

"Be careful making promises, Nash." She lightly shifted, slowly shimming herself to a sitting position with her back against the wall.

"I'm told I can be a right pain in the a** to drag from a fight." She gave several quick taps to the gnarled scar at the corner of her mouth before returning the bandaged appendage to her side.

The memory, to anyone else, would have been one that would have been buried deep. She remembered her fists flying. A swift left hook to her jaw from a set of sharp rings. A real cheap shot. But she had been told she looked like a real bad-a**. It produced a slight chuckle before she gripped her side a little.

"Damnit, can't even laugh in this ********' wreck of a state I'm in. Next thing I'm doin' when I get out is go a few rounds on a punching bag to vent in lettin' those pieces of s**t take me down to this."

"Believe me," said Nash, eyeing Sonja with faint amusement, the tone of his voice dry. "The twins and Dean are a helluva lot worse pain in the asses than you ever will be, and I've had to deal with them for a while now."

He sat back in his seat, exhaling a breath, fingers lacing together over his stomach again. "You'll be fine. You'll be out of here kicking someone else's trash in no time."

A pause.

"Please let it be Dottie or Tobin's."

"I believe that was a challenge." She raised a brow with lidded eyes before the bottled mirth behind them broke through into a chuckle.

"I'm only kicking them if there is a stupidly huge cartoon bulls-eye on them. And I'll aim for Tobin's first." She closed her eyes for a moment, letting for thoughts drift for a moment.

"Kinda nice... Thought I'd be watchin' my own back here. At least I know a few kind assholes that'll be watchin me. And don't think I won't be watchin' out for you guys." A sliver of pale emerald peeked out.

"Quick question, actually, how did you all meet? Like you said, seemed like you all knew each other before..." She let her arm gestured to the room around them.

"This."

"Remind me to put a target on all of their backs," said Nash, with a roll of his eyes. "And if you make my life more of a hell than those shitheads already do, it'll be a miracle that any of us survives past this night, because otherwise I'm going to throttle them."

He appreciated the thought, however, of her kicking Tobin's a**.

Really, anyone kicking Tobin's a** was a good thing. Nash let out a snort of amusement.

"Online," he said, "We were all part of the same forum and s**t. Got talking about everything we saw as kids, all the shadows. I met Alice online too, but we talked about other stuff, she's pretty cool."

"We'll do it really stupid and cartoony and I'll try and punt him." Ow, ow, ow. It hurt so much to laugh but it was worth it.

Oh geez, did he just snort? Her hand clenched her side once again.

"Makes sense. Not a bad way to enter here though." She grunted a little. She hated having to sit this still for so long.

"Most of the kids I looked after would talk about the same s**t. We kept close though." She had been wondering since she left how they were all doing... It troubled her a bit to not know how her own group was doing.

"Perfect," said Nash airily, waving a hand. He gave Sonja a long, curious look, as though debating whether or not to ask a question he probably shouldn't have been asking in the first place. But since it was Nash, he was going to pry anyway.

"What kids? Were you in like a home or something?"
