After dealing with some of the crazy creatures already that spawned from puddles, Kara wasn't sure she was too keen to going back outside. At the windows she could see too clearly how the waves had risen and she shivered, pulling her coat tighter around her shoulders. Numerous stories from home came to mind about creatures that lived beneath the water's surface. Each with their own required shows of respect and means to avoid. But that didn't seem like the aquatic creatures that came up now.
She'd shot off a text to Brad among others, Don't go near the water!! Not safe!! Now and again she looked out the windows of the dorms, not back in her room but lingering mostly on the first floor to stare out the windows at the shapes that formed and vanished before she could focus on them. More were out there, she just wasn't sure if she was willing to step out into the weather and fight them. At least, without backup.
Dimly, she wondered with a bit of different dread if this meant the water supply within the dorms and town were affected. As in, no working showers, baths, sinks... or worse, toilets.

It was just one thing after another. Deus never caught a break. No sooner than Bradley had come back from the Sahara, dropped off his centipede carapeice, and got bandaged up did the puddles start to revolt. It seemed Deus had pissed off all the corners of the mythical world. He would not be surprised if a giant woman made of lava and malice decided to take on one corner of the Island, while the living embodiement of an earthquake took on the other.
Honestly, nothing surprised him anymore.
Bradley found Kara on the first floor, a flutter of emotion in his chest. Yza made some comment and he ignored it, tapping the much shorter trainee on the shoulder.
Monsters now, emotions later.
"Got your text. Thinking about going out and trying to fight them back?" he said, glancing out at the shapes moving outside. The rain made it hard to focus on them, even more so than the Fear they contained, and it started to give him a headache.
[ Do you think that wise, Mine? You are barely recovered from the Sahara. ]
I'll be fine. What's the worse that can happen? he fiddled with his earring for a moment and glanced back down at Kara.
"You know you want to...." He grinned at her, his voice playful. In truth, he wanted to go fight some things and stop thinking about other things.
Monsters now, emotions later.

That there were people moving around her now and then didn't ease Kara's mind, but it meant she didn't jerk when she heard steps approaching her. Instead, she looked over her shoulder, offering a warm smile to a familiar face. It was a delight that faces were becoming familiar already, though the heat of a battle could do that, she supposed. Not that she had any real prior knowledge of this outside of random readings online or from a high school psych class.
But there was a definite sensation of relief as she hummed a bit in indecisive thought to Brad's question. "They're not the easiest bunch. Gale and I got attacked by some, first time I saw them. This island is just a magnet for trouble, isn't it?"
<Not only the island. The Hunters. You need to focus on training.> Kara shushed away Branwen's sigh, looking from the grinning young man towards the windows.
Giving a small sigh herself, she held out a hand down at her side, the metal avian skull earring vanishing in a small pop of light, reforming into the scythe she knew in her grasp. "Alright, alright, I'm clearly outnumbered," she laughed, though her eyes held a look far from mirth. "Let's go then." Offering Brad a slightly more genuine smile, she made her way to the door, pushing it open and watched the puddles and rain as she moved further away from the building. It was a seamless push into reality.
One moment nothing, the next, forms began to rise out of the water. Two looked like sea anemone, with sharp points bristling all around them, and some formed into whip-like tentacles that lashed through the air and made Kara take a quick step back. A bit further, a more draconian looking figure moved out, serpentine and smelling of the ocean. Great.
One of the anemones began to creep closer to her, one of the tentacles striking through the air. Branwen gave out a warning shout in her head, and Kara brought up her scythe, arching the blade to slice the offending limb and wincing as she felt some of the sharp suckers grip into her shoulder.

Bradley grinned and followed her outside. The world sharpened, shadows condenscing into forms that were solid and real. Without thought he summoned Yza into his hand, cracking his knuckles as he tightened his grip. It felt good to have her weight in his hands again, to feel the rush of battle thundering through his ears. Even if the rain threatened to bog him down with heavy cloth, Bradley moved with power and intent.
"Ya know how to find 'em, Kara!" he called over the rain, spinning Yza as the pretty big monster lumbered out of the water. Kara took one side as Bradley charged up the middle, turning at the last minute to slice Yza vertically upwards.
One of the tendrils smacked him in the head, leaving a welt over his eye.
Okay so maybe he was showing up, just a bit.

"Hardly on purpose," Kara scoffed, glancing side-long at Brad briefly before focusing back on the beings before them. But there was still a small smile on her face. It felt almost nice to joke about things, even with monsters at hand.
But it wasn't doing her any favors. Though she was able to leave a gash in the tentacle from her first hit, deepening it as she arched her blade again, the creature's grip increased on her shoulder, making her skid a little against the wet walkway as it yanked her a few steps closer. Ew. No thanks.
Trying to ignore the sparks of pain in her shoulder, she ducked down and twisted, managing to get out from under the tentacle's sharp grasp before backing up a few steps to try and collect herself again. There was definitely a wet heat at her shoulder, but for the moment Kara paid it little heed.

[[ Mine, please pay attention. ]] Bradley attempted to ignore his weapon. He was doing fine! The tentacle monster... thing - or was it a serpent, it was honestly very hard to tell in the rain - flailed its arms, smacking Kara across the face, and Bradley down the back as he turned to her in concern.
On one hand, the armor saved him from welts. On the other the damn thing stuck to his coat and started wrenching him around like a rag doll. A very heavy rag doll, 'course.
"For ---- sake!" he said, wind catching half his words. With a grunt, he lifted Yza up and slammed the blade down into the tentacle attached to his clothing, severing the limb. The piece stuck to his back flailed and shriveled, he thought, and he looked rather disgusted.
Gross. Didn't usually care about this sort of thing, but it was kinda gross.

Branwen was making it very clear in her head was she was due for: training. Hours of it. The scythe didn't speak a lot but she was making it overly abundantly clear that she would be pressing this issue very hard.
Largely, Kara's head was ringing due to how poorly she was handling herself in this fight. The tentacle still gripping her yanked hard, and Kara fell to her knees, skidding a bit along the walkway and yelping as skin ripped and leggings tore against the ground. The spines dug into skin by her shoulder blade and what did she do for retaliation?
Jabbed at it with the slightly pointy, mostly blunt, end of the scythe.
Branwen was livid, and Kara's eyes pricked with pain from her really only second fight of her life. Or well. Third. But she didn't want to think about the first.

[[ Mine, duck ]]
I know how to fight, Yzalin, thank you
[[ This is the worst mating display I've ever seen ]]
W-what!?
[[ You can barely avoid the creature, how will you sire her whelps!? ]]
WE ARE NOT HAVING THIS CONVERSATION NOW YZA
[[ Mine ]]
NO
[[ Mine ]]
I SAID NO
[[ ... You almost missed ]]
"GODS DAMNIT!" That was what he yelled when the tentacle slammed another one of its limbs into his face and sent him sprawling to the side after he barely nicked it. He tumbled, took more damage on the fall really, and came to a stop on his knees almost seething at his weapon. Face red like a tomato, his ears were on fire, he very, very much considered sacrificing his weapon to the monster and just taking up runics.
The one upside?
He felt Yza thrum in his hands, the blade glowing red with congelled blood. She was fed and ready to do actual damage to the creature. And blissfully silent.
Thank gods.

Branwen was humming in her hands. The crystals glowed, the runes even brighter, and though she could feel the weapon urging her to do something, she was... more than a tad bit distracted.
Namely, because the creature was dragging her ever closer. Her knees trailed blood that seeped into the puddles and bloomed into pink shapes amongst the water. Her shoulder ached, enough that it hurt to try and lift the scythe, and though she tried to push herself back onto her feet, the creature's grip was stronger than she'd anticipated.
Also it was a bit hard to not be terrified when a giant monster was threatening to take a chunk out of you with it's spiny tentacles.
