At not point did she say otherwise: she'd gotten lucky out in the Sahara. She'd seen the state others stumbled out in, far more worse for wear than her, and it didn't take much in terms of patching up for her to be back up and trying to learn more about the Island. But the dreams weren't helping. It wasn't that she was new to living on an island--she'd been living on a large one for the vast majority of her life--but she'd never had nightmares like this before. Images of being swept out to sea, of something waiting out there. And the sensation didn't ease when she awoke.
She chocked it up to paranoia brought on by the Sahara and the titan--there were likely bigger things in the ocean than she cared to think about quite yet--but even the weather seemed to continue the foreboding, looming mood. Her eyes were playing tricks on her each time she looked outside, coming up from her room down in the basement. It was too stuffy down there, and if things kept up, she'd be spending that fifty from the Life Division on paints to decorate the bare walls of her little cell room.
Kara was eyeing the rain from just within the main headquarters, debating for a while if she'd deal with the weather and head out to the training grounds. Wasn't like rain itself bothered her, though the severity of the weather concerned he-- Her phone buzzed, and she peeked at it, expecting maybe a text or.... well. It was a text. Hostile Powers Detected. Do Not Go Out Alone. Always Have Your Weapon.
Immediately her shoulders dropped. "Oh now what? Did the titan follow us?" Though she said this with a laugh, her gaze was grim. Don't go out alone. Did that even include trying to head to the dorms? She began to take a few steps, no hood to cover her hair as the rain began to hit her. Something moved out of the corner of her eye and she paused, squinting towards the puddles further ahead and off to the side. Now she knew her eyes were playing tricks on her. It'd almost looked like a squid or something. On land. Pft.

He was exhausted.
The whole Sahara ordeal had admittedly been - he couldn't say expected, because it hadn't been, but anything dealing with Caelius was expected to be a nightmare, and so here they were, again, returning to an already destructed island right after having to deal with giant, vicious centipedes.
It was not a good time.
Neither were the dreams.
Gale had forgotten his umbrella on returning from his office back to the dormitory building, and was soaked through to the bone by the time he ran into Kara, skidding almost into her as he darted through. Raindrops spattered on his cheeks, Gale slowing to a stop and spraying water everywhere.

She needed to pay more attention where she was walking rather than whatever tricks her eyes were playing. It was the sudden appearance of white and gold out of her corner of her eye that made her stop short, a hand lifting to her throat on some mindless reflex. Too many well I never or goodness me moments in shows she'd watch growing up or something. She nearly said the latter, though a bit more colorfully, when her brain caught up and she laughed, smiling up at Gale. "Gale, hello. Yes, it's me."
The rain was already working on soaking through her coat and dress beneath, and likely her socks would start to feel some of the cold damp at the rate the rain was going. But she barely had time to move out of his way, and try to push the wet, loose strands of hair out of her eyes, when more movement caught her attention further up the walkway.
"I-I think the Sahara got the better of me, I might need to see someone about a new case of paranoia," Kara laughed, intending to let them both be on their way as she tried to stand aside to let him carry on as he was. Here was hardly the place to chat, they'd both catch a cold.
The movement further up the walkway didn't stop though. Her eyes refocused, looking beyond the senior Hunter, squinting and staring before she registered the shape was a squid. Of... sorts. It possessed the various tentacles of a squid--one of those vampire ones, really, with how the spikes protruded from them, and the membrane between each added to the foreboding silhouette. But the main portion of the body was apparently far more capable of moving around on land, looking almost serpentine as it began to slide closer. "Oh... my god. What is that?"
Kara took a quick step back, summoning her scythe to her hand just in time for one of the spiked tentacles to whip her way. Though she arched the blade to cut the limb, the thing's reach went further than she anticipated, digging into her arm and making her grit her teeth.

It was her, thankfully; he hadn't just called out to some random person. Gale's blond hair was pulled back into a ponytail at the base of his neck, but the long streaks in front were sodden and sticking wetly to his cheeks, the rain spattering down around them in thick droplets.
"It does that," he said, with a touch of dryness, but there was understanding there as well. "The Sahara always leaves everyone with some sort of...unfortunate memories, I'm afraid. I'm sorry that that had to be your first outing, but at least you know what you can expect here, now."
He glanced sideways as she skittered, Gale's gaze narrowing slightly. He wasn't sure if he was just imagining it or not, either, but there had been something that had felt like movement - or that had looked like it, out of the corner of his eye. It was raining too hard to tell properly, but -
- no, wait. It was something.
<< Oh, dear. >>
Jinhai's voice came a second before the thing reared up, splashing, sliding slickly along the already soaked ground. Gale's rifle appeared in a dull flash of white light in his hands, and he swung it up into position as the thing lurched forward towards them.
"Bloody hell it's huge - are you doing all right?"
