Oscar woke and gave a mischievous to no one in particular as he sat up and pulled his chair over to him and hopped over into it. Once he pulled out the things he'd wear on he got his wand, his basketball, a basket the bottom taken out, and his number four jersey and put them in the bag that was strapped to the back of his chair.

After a quick breakfast he rolled his way outside looking for a spot to practice his game. He wanted a space that was flat, firm, and a bit out of the way. When he found a space that was strangely similar to the spot under the bell tower.

He got his wand and the basket out and floated the basket into place. He got his jersey out and put on. Lastly he got his ball out and did a few practice shots to see if the basket was in the right place.

User Image Trevor yawned and glanced around the green tinted room and slid out of bed and plodded into the bathroom. After a quick cold shower, Trever was awake and moving as fast as he normally was. He whistled as he got dressed ignoring the groaning complaints of his roommates, fed his pet rat, and dashed out of the room before one of his roommates could throw a shoe or something worse at him.

It was a bit on the early side, but breakfast was already out on the long tables in the Great Hall. He took a few minutes to scarf down some cereal, toast and some pumpkin juice before dashed outside to find something daring to do. He glanced around to see if there were any other kids outside before shrugging and moving to find something to do on his own.

He spied the Bell Tower and grinned. "I'll climb up that," He said with a wide smile. "I haven't attempted that yet."

He ran towards it and caught sight of the strangest and scariest thing he had ever seen before. A kid in a wheelchair playing some sort of game. He stopped to lean against a tree from a distance to watch as the boy maneuvered around in his wheelchair.

He was a bit surprised to see just how well and how fast the boy managed to move the chair around and catch the ball when it went through or bounced off the rim of the basket. His curiosity overcame his initial fear of the wheelchair and Trevor moved closer.

"Hello, what are you playing?" Trevor asked in a rather loud tone.

Oscar stopped catching the ball and looked at the first year. "It's a muggle game called basketball, it's simple enough really. There are five players on a team, and the goal is to shoot it into the basket." He then made a basket before catching it again. "It's a little like qudditch exsept every one is a chasers, and there is only the one hoop, net, or basket, depending on where you're from. And just the one ball." he added.

"It might sound boring but it's better than it sounds, Though there are a few differences between your kind and mine, the most notable being the dribbling rule." He said bouncing the ball next to him as he explained. "Being as I need my hands to move I can do a one wheel turn to two bounces. you on the other hand have working legs, thus if you were to walk holding the ball that would be called traveling and you get a penalty. You can move one foot but the other has to stay in one spot. unless you're dribbling, that is to say bouncing the ball." he than tossed the ball over to him. "It's best to start with a dribble before trying to run around with it."

He wanted to see if the kid had any potential at planning some one on one. If the kid wanted to play that is. If it was his chair that people wondered about than Oscar would go back to practicing on his own.

Trevor listened with interest as the older boy explained what he was playing. It sounded like an interesting game. "It sounds like it'd be fun game to play." He said shifting from foot to foot as he eyed the other closely.

"It doesn't sound boring to me, I bet it's a rather intense game when you have a bunch of people playing all at once," He said with a smile. He listened to the other as he explained the game further and how they'd have to vary how they played with each other. "I should probably practice this dribbling first before we try and play a game," he said after a moment of thought. "I've never really played many muggle games myself." He admitted. "maybe you could show me how to do it?" He asked.

Oscar was somewhat amused at the boy's fascination at Oscar's explanation. "You know that bouncing thing I did with the ball? That was dribbling. You want to use your finger tips to dribble, don't worry about getting it right your first go, it's harder to do on your first go then it looks.Getting it before walking around with it is definitely a good place to start." He agreed, "Running around wail dribbling might be a stretch for today but we'll see how well it goes."

Oscar thought about what he said "Well because of this chair I am able to know a bit of the muggle world, and the sports I can play, I just like basketball best. Muggle Chess it like Wizard Chess just without the pieces moving." he added, "I can show you some if you're really interested,"

Trevor nodded at the boy and then realized he hadn't actually introduced himself just yet. "Oh my name is Trevor, what's your name?" He asked putting the ball under one arm and offered the boy his right hand.

Once they were introduced, Trevor practiced dribbling the ball as best as he could. He started out just standing and doing it then moved to walk around dribbling the ball. He seemed to be able to pick it up pretty easily much to his surprise. "This is actually a lot of fun," He said with a smile. "I'm glad I saw you out here," he said shooting the boy a smile.

"That's cool. I've heard of a lot of muggle games, my sister's a squib and well she's gotten to do a lot of muggle games that I've never done before. Chess sounds interesting."

Oscar smirked a bit with a nod. "It seems we both forgot our manners," he agreed. "I am Oscar Masterman, it's a pleasure making your acquaintance," he recited shaking the boy's hand.

Oscar was impressed with how quickly Trevor seemed to master dribbling, the again Trevor was a good deal older than most who start out. Once Trevor stated to move about, Oscar did some roll counting, basically measuring the space to see if it was at least large enough to mark half a basketball court. "Want to try some throws at the basket?" he asked, "Harder to do than it sounds, hmmm it to small a space to make the court, or even a half of one, but I guess we could play Horse, it's basically a game in which each player takes a turn making a shot, if the ball goes though the hoop, the others have to shoot from that spot. Everyone who makes the shot gets a letter first to spell horse wins." he stated.

Oscar looked a little confused, "You never played chess before?" he asked a little bewildered "Well,I guess not everyone understands it.so maybe your parents didn't have a set?" he theorized.

Trevor raised an eyebrow at Oscar's formal greeting. He wasn't really used to people talking like that. He shook the boy's hand and smiled though. "Nice to meet you as well Oscar." He agreed with a smile.

Trevor looked up from his dribbling at Oscar's suggestion. "Sounds like a good idea," He said with a cheerful grin. "Ah if it's not hard it's not worth working at getting better at." He replied and glanced over to the basket as he listened to Oscar explain the game a bit more.

"All right, I'm game," He told the older boy. "You want to start the game off?"

Trevor was surprised by how confused Oscar was that he didn't know about chess. "No I haven't played it. More than likely. My parents are minimalistic, not surprising with how much we moved around when I was younger. They've settled down a bit more now, but still we don't have a ton of toys or games.
I'm fine with that though, as long as I have my bike, skates, and skateboard I'm good."

Oscar chuckled a little at his confusion, "Oh Sorry, my mum works in the ministry in the charm department, and my dad is a healer in the magical beast floor. So my mum gets on me when I don't introduce myself proper," he explained. "Had me say it so many times that I kinda just go into autopilot, er, that is to say, I just say it without thinking. Though still is nice to meet you," He said perhaps over explaining.

Oscar grinned "Very true, it wouldn't be that much fun. Alright Rookie as it is your first time you can go first. You've got a height advantage, thou it's not by much." He said gesturing to the basket.

Oscar listened to Trevor's explanation and understood, "Oh, I see. No time to accumulate things when you're always moving, I have a racing chair, I use when my sister wants to ride her bike, I don't sky but one of my old teammates did.I have ridden horses." he said, "Flying on the other hand, well still working on that one." he chuckled.

Trevor shrugged at Oscar's explanation. "Oh I see. I'm not surprised, most mothers are like that." He said with a grin. "My mother's always trying to get me to stand still. That doesn't usually happen that often." He added with a chuckle.

Trevor raised an eyebrow again at Oscar's saying he had a height advantage. "Some advantage, as I don't even know how to play this game, you've had more practice," He replied shaking his head as he moved dribbling the ball so he was in front of the basket. He eyed the basket as he dribbled a few more times and then lifted it and tossed it up and as hard as he could. The ball hit the edge of the basket and bounced back out at him. "Yeah, not easy at all." He said running to retrieve the ball and then bounced it over to Oscar.

Trevor was glad that someone actually understood. Most kids just thought it was weird and crazy that he had so few possessions. If anything the most items he possessed were his school books and clothing. "Yeah, that's exactly it. Plus it's easier to leave at the drop of the hat and not have to leave anything behind that you really love." He said waiting for the other to take his shot. He got a curious look on his face when Oscar mentioned a racing chair. "Does your racing chair look different than the one you're using now?" He asked curiously.

He was even more surprised to hear that he had ridden horses before. He hadn't thought kids who couldn't walk could do that. "Flying would be hard on your own, though, if you had someone to hold onto it might work out better." He said thoughtfully.

Oscar chuckled a little, "Yeah I know what you mean. Mum hates when I pop-a-wheelie," he said doing one as he waited for Trevor to throw.

Once Trevor missed, which didn't shock Oscar. It was the guy's first time after all, "Well not many first timers are that close, you aren't sharking me now are you?" he joked as he cot the ball.

He showed what dribbling was like for him though in Horse it didn't matter as much. He wheeled over to where the free throws line would be if it was marked. Figuring that because it was Trevor's first time to go with the easier throws. "It's true I do have experience on my side but your height advantage will get better though the years. As will your skills if you keep at it long enough." he said then shot the ball into the basket. "A simple penalty shot." he said wheeling over to grab the ball and bounced it over to Trevor.

He noticed that Trevor was a curious about his chair. Normally it annoyed Oscar when people see just the chair, but Trevor wasn't trying to over compensate, more like he was amazed that he could do things like any other person, but he was defiantly scared of the chair. He probably thought his life would stop. "It's always the rookies and the scared that make the biggest freak out about people with disabilities." he said shaking his head, doing another wheelie.

"Alright, to answer your question, yes I have a few specialty chairs that have are for a number of sports. There are quite the number of items that give people with disabilities a way to do things that those without tend to take for granite. This is just a standard chair, that happens to have a charm spell on it that let's me go up and down stairs." he said

User Image Trevor glanced over at Oscar's chuckle and watched as the boy did the maneuver in his chair. He grinned. "I do those on my bike all the time. Mom freaks out over them too."
He laughed. "If she knew half the risky tricks I did on my bike, she'd probably have a heart attack."

Trevor glanced at Oscar's words after he missed making the basket and scratched his head. "Sharking? Is that like bluffing?" He asked. He'd never heard the term before so he was wondering if his guess was close.

Trevor carefully watched as the boy moved forwards with one hand while he dribbled the ball with the other. It looked rather tricky to him. He crossed his arms and watched as the boy came to a stop and nodded his head at the others words. He'd have to see if he could drum up more people who might be interested in learning the game.

"I'll have to convince my cousin Jacques to come practice with us, or maybe some other kids. I bet it would be more fun playing with more kids." He said and whistled in admiration when Oscar made the shot. "Simple for you," He replied with a grin and caught the ball and moved slowly towards the penalty line and lined up the ball with the basket. "So you have and H then cause you made the basket?" He asked glancing over at him. Then he looked back and dribbled the ball and copied the way Oscar had held the ball launched the ball with an arc of his wrist. This time the ball hit the back of the rim, bounced and the fell through.

"Sweet! I made it! He said with a triumphant fist pump.

Trevor ran after the ball and felt a bit bad for having stared at Oscar's wheelchair earlier after hearing the boy's words. "I imagine it bothers you when people stare at you. I would think it gets rather annoying," He said thoughtfully.

He listened closely to Oscar's explanation feeling almost relieved to hear that being in a wheelchair wasn't the end of the world. There were ways of doing things and living life even if one lost mobility. He nodded at Oscar's words feeling rather awkward and wasn't sure of what to say in response. He shifted on his feet and glanced down at them. He suddenly felt very grateful for his legs and that they worked.

He looked back up and into Oscar's eyes. "Thanks for sharing all that Oscar, I'm going to try and not take what I can do for granted."

Oscar nodded, "That is one way of putting sharking. It's a hustle the fist time the person plays, the throw the game, normally when money is involved, then go double or nothing and show their true skill." he explained.

Oscar shook his head, "No you made the shot so let's try over here." he said wheeled to a tougher spot, thou this time with the ball in his lap. "Yeah the game is better with more players, but horse is easier then a true basketball game, but even though I'm not on my team anymore I still got to keep up my game, for when I do get to see them." he said on the key slightly closer to the basket but a different angle and shot the ball into the basket.

Oscar nodded, "Yes it can be annoying to be stared at, it's more so when they are avoiding you because of it. It's easier for people to see the person if they are more comfortable, with it, normally because they or someone they love has some kind of disability." he explained, "But Hogwarts is where we all live for a good majority of 7 years, I'd rather explain to you quickly than be seen as incapable."
PostPosted: Fri Jul 14, 2017 10:02 pm

Trevor's eyebrows worked up and down as Oscar replied to his question. "Ah, I see. Well I don't really hustle people," He told him. "I really am being honest though when I say this is the first time I have played the game I'm being truthful." He told him. "I can be pretty lucky at times though."

Trevor followed Oscar over to a new spot and eyed the basket from the angle Oscar was and raised an eyebrow. It looked even more difficult to get this time. He had a feeling his luck was going to not come in to play this time. "One day I'll have to try and watch a full team basketball game. I imagine there are probably a lot of people who like to play this game." He mused. He whistled in appreciation when Oscar made the basket easily. He moved to retrieve the ball and moved to take up the same spot Oscar had been in.

He bounced the ball as he listened to Oscar explain what he really found annoying. "Man, that's almost like being judged because of your appearance," He said thoughtfully and finally attempted the shot. The ball flew over the basket completely missing it and he sighed. "Well, my luck done run out," He half joked as he moved to retrieve it and then bounced it back to Oscar. "I imagine in seven years you'll win a lot of people over and they'll stop seeing your chair and just see you." He said shooting a smile at Oscar. "Some kids just need longer to warm up than others,"

Oscar nodded his head, "Yes, I figured it was beginner's luck. I would think only those that have some muggle knowledge would know what a basketball even is. That was why I was kind of joking when I asked about you trying to shark the game. Sorry I guess in hinge sight it's not that good of a joke." he apologized.

Oscar nodded, "yeah you should," he agreed. "I won't ever be able to hang from the rim like some of the greats, but hey I've got better upper body strength," he said with a shrug. "At least I can do anything in books,"

When Trevor missed, Oscar smirk "Now I have an H. Want to try that spot again, or another?" he asked as he raised an eyebrow.

Oscar nodded "That is what it is exactly, Yeah this year is already better than last year.Because of that," he explained.
