To call it a theme park seemed misleading, Aadhira thought. It was large and full of things he'd only seen on television and not at all a quiet place to picnic or frolic through flowers. He hadn't particularly wanted to do either of those, but now he found himself with quite a lot to do instead. Dr. J had opted out; something in her research had reached a critical point, and she actually hadn't been home in the last forty-eight hours. But, she'd said, that was no reason for Aadhira to remain cooped up. There had been a long speech on responsibility (interrupted frequently by her staff), and the knowledge that if this proved too much for Aadhira, he would not be allowed out alone.

Whatever, he had his cell phone. He'd be fine. Still, he'd worn a pair of sunglasses and dressed lightly. Gambino itself was always a bit hotter than Durem and he'd be in the sun all day. For a moment, he wished he could devour sunlight instead of glow-light. There was sort of slight difference there he wasn't sure about. Maybe Dr. J would know.

He shook his head, the silver jewelry pieces in his hair knocking together. A little silly to wear out, but they'd become a sort of armor for him. Now, though, he was busy floating around aimlessly, staring at the map and trying to figure out where in the spoke-wheel hell he was actually located.

For a little over three weeks now, Pohl had been accompanying Fisher to his job at the Crystal Forest, and every day had been nothing short of fascinating, packed with new things to learn that he never could have sucked out of the books and TV back home. Here at the park he got to meet all sorts of people and experience all sorts of things, some of which were even fast. Fast was still his favorite thing, even though he couldn't adequately explain the allure to his guardian.

He wasn't allowed to wander far from Fisher's hidden office most of the time, nor was he allowed to speak to any one guest for more than a minute unless they were the ones to continue the conversation. Luckily, most people found meeting a floating quarter of a person a novel enough occurrence to pause for longer than that. He did get to venture farther than usual when he went to pick up Fish's lunch, and that was what he was doing right now, speeding back through the center of the park to Terra, a cheeseburger on a tray held carefully out in front of him. Normally, he didn't pay the outside world much mind during lunch runs for various reasons, but some small speck of consciousness told him to look Aadhira's way just as he zipped past, and Pohl almost tossed the tray aside in his excitement. Another raevan? Here? Pohl and his cheeseburger were suddenly quite close, his eyes very wide and his smile only just large enough to count as one. Little gusts of air huffed in and out of his nose as he caught his breath, despite his lack of proper lungs.

"Hello."

This was very exciting.

For once, Aadhira had not been paying much attention to his surroundings. His heads had been buried in the map quite thoroughly. So, when Pohl appeared quite suddenly, with a cheeseburger, and breathing heavily, Aadi flinched. The map crumpled in his hands and he blinked rapidly, his eyes glowing in muted alarm. Then he took a deep breath through his nose. Another raevan, here?

Color Aadi thoroughly confused. And this sort of innocent confusion wasn't a bad feeling, so he didn't immediately move away. Instead, he smiled, blindingly white.

"Hello. I didn't expect to meet any raevans here." He looked again at the tray, wondering if it would be rude to ask why in the world a raevan was carrying around a burger. "I'm Aadhira."

"Sorry."

Pohl retreated just a little, still clutching his tray. He knew bugs, was familiar with the way some of the fireflies flared when he startled them, and even if that wasn't what all of this had meant, the last thing he wanted to do was frighten the shiny boy with the nice teeth.

"Fisher said I can be 'a little scary, kid' when i get close, but sometimes I forget to stay back. I'm Pohl. You're the first raevan I've ever met." When he quoted his guardian, Pohl's voice grew several degrees warmer, not to mention a great deal more animated. It was the voice he probably should have been adopting to make himself more personable, but he hadn't quite gotten the hang of it on his own yet.

"Aadhira. It's very nice to meet you. My guardian works here. I like to get his lunch." He shifted one hand under the tray, balancing it on his palm while he extended a newly-freed finger toward the tallish tower behind him without even looking to see where it was. The structure occasionally screamed, the frightened shrieks of its louder passengers making it all the way outside. "Do you ride?"

Aadi regarded Pohl curiously. "A little scary kid?" he repeated. "You're not frightening, maybe a little startling. I'm not sure you could be scary. Do you want to be?" If so, Aadhira would simply switch his tune to support that. It was easy enough to do. "You are the.... the... I don't know how many raevans I've met, but I have not talked to many for a long while. I hope I'm suitable for a first." The change in tone was honestly really interesting and Aadhira slowly scanned the raevan.

"Yes," he said, enthusiasm creeping into his voice, if only because he could sense that was what Pohl wanted to hear. Then he blinked. "Ride what?"

"I don't," Pohl said. "I want to be a friend. Friendly." He considered Aadhira's words, glancing down at the swiftly cooling cheeseburger as he thought of some words of his own.

"You are a very nice first raevan, especially if you are a rider of Astor's Crash." The building Pohl had pointed to screamed again. It was apparently an indoor freefall ride with at least three drops, if the random outbursts were any indication.

"Do you want to ride now?" He could ditch the food, ride the ride, and get a second burger after claiming he'd dropped the first. The burger people would believe him. It had happened before.

Aadhira glanced at the building. He was going to die. But he would be damned if he did it with anything but a daredevil of a smile on his face. Especially recently, he'd taken to ironing out the cracks in the sorts of fronts he presented to others. It was important that he look a certain way to everyone around him.

The ride was going to ruin his hair. At least he'd brought a comb. "I would love to ride - with you. But what about that?" He pointed almost languidly to the food Pohl held.

Pohl had been ready to toss the burger into the nearest trash receptacle as soon as Aadi showed the slightest interest in riding, but now that he had actually been questioned on what he might do with it, his mind spun several additional scenarios, a couple of them viable but most completely ridiculous.

"I... um..." He looked down at the human food again. "I will feed it to Donny." The raevan's voice lowered to a whisper once more.
"Come on."

Without waiting for a response, Pohl hurried off toward the ride's queue, ignoring the screams that grew louder along the way. He moved past the fountain and through the hub, sparing a look at the sparkling banners that fluttered overhead as they entered Astral City, or as the map called it, Aero. Pohl peeked over his shoulder to make sure Aadhira hadn't wandered off only once right at the end, just before he reached the cast members' entrance at their final destination.

"In here. Are you ready?"
