@chromaticore -- We need to talk.
@Ispeakfeline -- Okay, time and place.
@chromaticore -- 19:00 on the training fields. There are a few benches there we can sit on.
@Ispeakfeline -- Certainly.

Cami reviewed the Twitter conversation again, eyes flicking up to the time at the very top of her phone screen, before she shoved it into her back pocket. Damp hands rubbed against her filthy shorts causing her to create little more than a muddy layer of visible anxiety on her palms.

It never for a second occurred to her that he might not show and that was why she was nervous. This would be the first time facing each other since they were Camixi and Nothing. Since that moment where she was blindfolded, a flash of pain, then nothing...nothing she remembered, at least.

She remembered asking him to leave her behind and wondered why she had woken up at all. She remembered a lot. She wondered even more.

Lawrence arrived in his usual unhurried way, savouring the trip and the bright weather. He made his way over to her, also taking the walk to recall in vivid detail the moment of blade and flesh, of being as god.

It made him feel good, almost elated and he smiled at her, inclining his head a little. He looked like he'd just come from a shower, exceptionally clean and with clothes freshly laundered on an island devastated by the attack.

"I do apologise" he said, "For not being able to leave you there. I tried."

They couldn't have been more different. He was immaculate, clean and white, and she was dark, dirty, with a sheen of sweat covering her face and limbs. Her confusion and agitation from the entire experience of The Dusk clung to Cami and made her just a little bit jittery. It also made her emotions, already so very close to the surface, damn near transparent.

"Did..." She caught herself as the question (accusation) was half out of her mouth. Did you?! was what she had nearly said. Instead she hesitated and asked a different question entirely. "I assumed you'd remember everything too. Do you know what went wrong?" Because something must have. Otherwise why would she be here?

Lawrence shrugged his slender shoulders. "I do remember everything but I do not understand what went wrong. I assume whatever entity or entities were controlling the place we found ourselves in ejected us from it without letting anyone remain."

He gave her a gentle look. "That version of me could fully and completely appreciate emotions. I got to feel it become complete noise and nonsense, like waking up from a dream you cannot remember."

He didn't mention the murder thing, hoping she didn't remember.

Evens - She remembers.
Odds - She doesn't.

For one of the rare, shining times in Lawrence's life he was going to get very lucky. Camille didn't remember having her throat slit, did not remember bleeding out while hands stretched towards her ruined throat. But she did not have Camixi's feelings and experiences pressing down from around all sides of her like a suffocating hug. Instead she had Caroline's warnings, her shrill insistence that he was not to be trusted.

Truthfully? The whole thing was giving her a serious headache. Or was that the sun?

Without the horror of murder to distract her the teenager was able to catch the distinction between Lawrence and Nothing. "Ama said that you didn't feel things like most people. Is that really true? I mean...how?"

Lawrence shrugged. "How indeed? How do you tell that you are in a snowglobe when you cannot see the world outside from within it? I don't know that Nothing felt emotions, simply that he made a lot of decisions I cannot understand now without context, simply a lot of strange illogical leaps and decisions that I cannot untangle. I care about you of course, his reasons were just different."

He looked a little bit uncomfortable with the subject, always concious when he talked about this that people tended to get distressed.

"Perhaps by that measure however I do feel things differently." He frowned a little. "But honestly, I only know or suspect it because other people so consistently tell me it is the case."

He sat down on the bench nearby, looking even smaller than usual. "It is certainly a thing to be told by your father that there is something inherently wrong with you so many times you believe it."
