The summer sun shining down on the park across the street from Robin's preferred busking location made him smile. It was a glorious day, and people were out and about enjoying the warmth and the sunshine -- and enjoying the music he was playing, if the money in his guitar case was any indication. Still, he was glad he wasn't directly in the sunlight, standing as he was on a shaded corner near DCU with his back to a brick building. He would have roasted, nevermind what it would have done to his guitar. Yeah, it wasn't his prized Gibson John Lennon acoustic, but it was still a decent instrument and therefore susceptible to the weather. "Cheers, love," he nodded to a woman who tossed a couple of bucks into his guitar case as he pushed a stray blond dreadlock off his face. It was definitely not the season for a leather jacket, so he had foregone it, sticking to a British flag t-shirt and black jeans along with a pair of sneakers instead of his Doc Martens. Checking the tuning on the guitar, he launched into a merry English folk tune, reinterpreted in his own acoustic punk style. A few people stopped to listen, and some dug into their pockets and purses and contributed to the day's take. Yeah, it was a good day to be him. White Trickster Rabbit I hope this works for you! <3

Having had the morning shift at the bathhouse today left Melody with a day to do whatever she wanted. The problem with that was she didn't really have much to actually do. With only a few friends to her name and no one to really hangout with, the blonde Vietnamese woman was left with nothing to do but wonder. That wasn't a bad thing, really, but it was lonely and that was what she hated the most. The noise of her flip flops were eventually drowned out by the sound of music and her feet gave her no time to contemplate moving towards the sound by doing so anyway. It wasn't necessarily a style of music she listened to but the cello player always found herself appreciating music on any scale regardless. It seemed rude to not some how. Having been around for the previous song, this next one was very interesting to listen to as it sounded not like the one before. Sure it was all the same punk style of sorts but it was different. Kind of like when she turned something not made for cello into something she played anyway. Some cash was pulled from her pocket, not even bothering to count it as she tossed it into the open case. Didn't matter how much it was considering it was the money her mom had forced her to take on her way out that morning. He deserved however much it was and probably more. "What kind of song was it originally?" she couldn't help but to ask, brown eyes watching him curiously. tatterpixie he's precious and adorable

Robin finished his song and turned to the young woman who had asked a question. "A traditional English folk song," he replied as he took a glance inside his guitar case. He then turned his full attention to her, giving her a lopsided cheeky grin. "Yeah, it sounded a lot different before I got hold of it. I like to put my own twist on trad songs -- kind of a punk twist, as you may have surmised." He fiddled with the guitar's tuning as he spoke; if there was one thing about playing the way he did, it was hard on the tuning. Satisfied, he tilted his head at the girl and stuck out a hand. "My name's Rob. Robin, actually. You're welcome to stick around for some songs, if you like."

Melody gave a small nod of her head at his answer. She could only imagine how different it sounded considering his punkish twist, but it was interesting! And maybe something she would keep in mind in her next musical bout. Well, not the punk twist, as that wasn't her thing, but her own twist on known music. "That's rather interesting~ I've never really thought of putting my own twist on things, but then I'm not sure how well that can be done with a cello." Though perhaps by playing known songs on her cello she'd done that in a way? Watching him tune his guitar, she paused just a moment when his hand reached out. She hadn't expected him to be so friendly. Smiling sweetly, she took his hand in hers and gave a gentle shake. "I would love to stay for a little bit," because she didn't have much in the way of things to do today. "Thank you Robin~ I'm Melody, by the way~"

"Pleasure to meet you, Melody," Robin smiled back. "You play cello? That's brilliant! I've always wanted to learn cello -- never got round to it, not with all the other stuff I was learning as a kid." Going back to tuning his guitar, he continued, "I can play violin, though, an' guitar, drums, bass, flute… pretty much anything except keyboards. Just never got the hang of 'em." He finished tuning and turned back to her. "But yeah, you could do a lot of interesting things with cello. Hook up a condenser mic to it an' run it through an effects rack. Add little flourishes that aren't in the original score -- that's all I do, really. Think outside the sheet music. It helps that the songs I play have been subject to individual interpretation from just about every performer that's performed them. Gotta love oral music tradition," he grinned. "Sorry, me mum's a music professor. I get a bit technical at times." White Trickster Rabbit Ugh, sorry this is so late, Bun ;__; my muse kinda failed me and RL hit me hard ;__; Let me know if you want to continue!

"Oh well, thank you~" she replied, blushing faintly. "I'm a big fan of stringed instruments but the cello is the only thing to ever call to me. So I've never bothered to learn anything else." It was interesting to meet others who played multiple instruments and he seemed to know so much more then she when it came to mixing things up. "No no, don't apologize~" she soothed. "It's all good ideas to keep in mind in how to mix up my music. Very helpful actually, not something that was entirely taught in my music program." They'd covered it some but not enough to really have something to go on. "I might have to look into getting my hands on some of those things and see what I can come up with." Maybe. She was kind of stuck in the whole classical way of playing... It was something to think about anyway. tatterpixie no worries bby <3 life happens emotion_kiss
