It had taken the teen longer than she would have liked, after being swept up in everything that made up her life, to reach out to the lovely woman that Rory definitely categorized as her "mom friend". It helped that Jules was older, more experienced, and definitely in a position to be considered someone's mom, if that had been her lovely friend's choice.
Selfishly, the girl was grateful that Jules lacked children because it allowed her to step easily into the 'mom role' with Rory. Something she hadn't had well, ever.
That was the thing about moms dying in childbirth, one never got to know anything about them outside of stories.
Either way, she had reached out to the woman when she had realized that trying to have the conversation with Pops about the boy that had brought her back past curfew wasn't something she was ready for. And, while she knew that Akio would wait for her as long as she needed, she wanted to be safe and smart regardless.
She volunteered enough to know that there were always complications with medicine and it might take longer than she'd like to get adjusted properly.
So, there she was, standing outside of Jules' house, knocking on her door.

Door knocking was unusual for the small, quaint little Payne household. Jules felt safe referring to it as a household, now that there was more than just a single, lonely soul living under the simple roof. Granted, it wasn't much but it was still a friendly face to come home to. Paws pattered after bare feet as she made her way towards the door. The afternoon had been spent reading, the faint scent of cookies made the day prior still wafting in the air. Usually the boys who approached her to tend to her yardwork waited until the weekend to knock on her door, so curiosity got the better of her and she found herself quickly unlatching the security chain before opening the front door. After all - if anyone nefarious was afoot, it would take all of a minute before Angelite could take care of business. Blue eyes blinked as she stared at the short woman on her doorstep. A smile curled its way up across her lips as she instinctively drew forward to pull the young woman in her arms. "Rory - what a surprise!" The teenager had run off during the Gala; Jules had presumed she'd either found the affair to be boring or made friends along the way. Well, friends that weren't as boring and old as she was. "How are you doing, darling? I'm so sorry to have gotten separated from you back at the affair." Releasing her from the impromptu hug, she ushered the girl into her house without hesitation as the small kitten at their heels meowed for attention. Ignoring the feline, she continued, "Is everything okay? Do you want something to eat?"

The teenager shifted from foot to foot nervously while she waited for the door to be answered. Her smile was hesitant, but genuine when she saw the face of the woman whom she'd grown rather fond of. "Ah- " she stopped, looked down and wrung her hands together. "I meant to tell you I was leaving, I just got swept up in something."
Rory had been hoping to avoid the whole where did you go thing.
Hugging Jules back was easy, with the girl breathing in deeply as she enjoyed the simple gesture that somehow meant so much to her. It wasn't like hugging Akio or Seal or her pseudo-brothers. Hugging the older woman made her feel like maybe this was like what hugging her mother would be.
Following her into the house, she carefully shut the door behind her and tried not to allow herself to be distracted by the kitten mewling for attention.
"Well, um, everything is fine but..." she flushed, trailing off because she was embarrassed. "I wanted to ask you for advice and uh, help. I don't think Pops would be very happy if I went to him right now..."

Ignoring the cat had proven to be a fruitless endeavor. As hard as it was for Jules to put her foot down and insist that pandering to a needy little voice would only encourage it further to continue its negative behavior... well, she'd always been a sucker for a sad face. Pausing to pluck up the kitten from the floor, she cradled the purring monster in her arms as her free hand moved to gently rub beneath its chin. She was still making her beeline towards the kitchen; despite the girl not answering about food, it was instinctive for the older woman to at least prepare drinks, at the very least. At the mention of Rory's father, Jules gave pause as an eyebrow arched. It didn't bother her that she was being sought out for advice - she was delighted, in fact - but if Aurora was having issues with her father because of whatever it was... "Oh? Did you and he get into a fight?"

Padding after the older woman, Rory found herself a spot on the other side of the kitchen counter. Watching Jules handle the kitten while also trying to be a wonderful hostess had her smiling and unable to resist commenting.
"Looks like you two bonded well." And it pleased her to know that, given the woman's initial uncertainty when she'd brought him in to the shelter.
"Oh...no, but..." Rory wet her lips, trying to keep from letting her pale features flush too red. Broaching this subject was going to be difficult enough with the woman, she couldn't imagine what it would be like to talk about it with her dad.
"I don't know how to talk to him about this." She wrinkled her nose, setting her forearms on the counter with fingers laced together. "I have a boyfriend." She said it plainly, because it had to be the start of it. "We're not - he's wonderful and so respectful so we haven't uh- done anything that's above pg but," she paused, looking down at her fingers, thumbs sliding over one another, "I want to y'know, get on something just in case. We're waiting until I'm ready and I'm not, not anywhere close, but I want to be safe and I know it takes time to know if something's gonna work?"
Metallia this was so embarrassing but at least she was talking to Jules and not Pops about it.

She was quick to set the kitten down alongside its food dish, the small feline apparently excited at the sight of food and the sudden recollection that food was delicious, having forgotten such imperative knowledge in its concern for attention. As he munched away on the dry kibble, Jules busied herself with washing her hands, back turned towards the young woman as she listened to her predicament. The sex talk was an easy speech to give on auto-pilot when dealing with young patients. She'd given it on more than a few occasions, whether out of concern or having been prompted by curious questions. She wasn't an OBGYN nurse by a long shot, but being an RN on top of a grown woman...well, she at least had the power of information under her belt when the situation arose. Being asked it on a personal level, however, threw her a bit off her game. She was in capris and a blouse, her scrubs were hung up in her closet. Aurora should really be having this conversation with her mothe... ah, right.Without missing a beat, she moved to reach out for the fridge, opening the door as she glanced back briefly towards her turquoise haired charge. Her first impulse was to remind her of her age - she wasn't an adult and she shouldn't be thinking about sex. Yet, Aurora was at least being responsible and pursuing options. She'd clearly stated that her and her new beau weren't ready for that stage of their relationship but the big what if continued to dangle over their heads. “Well...you have graduated from high school,” she started slowly, one hand reaching into the refrigerator and pulling out a decently sized pitcher, “I think it's more than appropriate timing for you to be looking for a, erm, lady doctor about now.” Technical terms were so much easier than trying to figure out sugar-coated words. The pitcher was set on the counter, soon followed by two large cups, filled with ice. Lemonade was poured, straws were dropped in and one cup was offered to the teenager - the young woman - as Jules took a sip of her own. It was slowly dawning on her why exactly Rory was approaching her. As a seventeen year old (and an innocent one at that), the poor girl probably didn't have the first clue as to what to do. “I know of a few clinics you can go to that don't require parental consent, if that's what you're worried about.” The nervous expression on young Rory’s face wasn't hard to miss. “Unless you'd be interested in some company going with you?”

For one terrifying moment, Rory thought that she had made a mistake in coming to Jules for help with this. It was a foolish idea, really, because they weren't sexually active and she had no plans to be in the near future for several reasons, but Rory didn't know who else to turn to. It wasn't like she had many friends, or any, that she would feel comfortable talking about this with. Her older boys probably would have glowered and told her that those weren't things she needed to think about or, worse, threaten her boyfriend for even thinking to suggest such a thing for her.
And...she could only imagine what her father would do if she posed the hypothetical.
Yeah, no, she wanted to avoid that until it was something she was planning on partaking in.
"I'm sorry to spring this on you, but I didn't know who else to go to." The teen apologized, looking up as the lemonade was set before her. Automatically her hands wrapped around the glass, grateful for something to hold on to. "Both, it's a bit of both. I'm not ready for that conversation with Pops yet, I'm still - " she stopped, unsure if she should admit that her boyfriend and her father had gotten off on the wrong foot already because he'd brought her home past curfew on their first night together.
"I don't really know much, I mean - I sorta do because of some of the volunteer work I've done, but I have no idea how to go about this on my own."

She continued to sip on her lemonade as Aurora slowly responded. It wasn't hard to see that she was uncomfortable with the entire situation and frankly, Jules was too on her behalf. It had evidently taken a great deal of courage for her to find an adult she could trust with her predicament and there was a small, secret sense of pride that the older woman had at being the one chosen for the task. Setting her lemonade down, fingers fell across the countertop as she leaned forward, pressing her weight into the granite. “I'm not going to tell you not to do it. You're old enough to make these kinds of decisions for yourself and I trust you to be smart. You haven't proven me wrong thus far.” Which was true. Considering she was a Super Senshi, Aurora was a clever child who deserved respect for being incredibly mature for her young age. Taking a deep breath, Jules continued, “If you're avoiding your father for the time being, you'll have to pay out of pocket. Going to any clinic or doctor’s office will send the EOB to your father. Do you have any money saved up for this?”

"I - " Rory stopped, made herself inhale to calm her nerves as she blinked up at Jules. "I know. I want to be prepared for the what if. I don't...I know I'm not ready and I think Akio respects that." Hadn't they just discussed how she wasn't ready for that?
Besides...it wasn't technically appropriate for them to do such things now anyway.
"I want him to properly meet Akio before I broach the subject with him. Pops is...overprotective and they sorta got off on the wrong foot already." Not that she was ready to talk about that little aspect. "I can pay, I think."
She wrinkled her nose, trying to hide her frown.
"I have a job, but I don't know what the costs are exactly and I have some money saved up." Not a large sum by any means, but her tip money had been going to this venture while she was using her paychecks to pay for the new phone bill she had and whatever she could to help around the house. "If I need to wait until I have more, I can do that."

"Even if he didn't respect that, I presume my dear friend Hydra wouldn't tolerate any sort of.. .nonsense." Words were left unspoken, the remaining commentary inferred with her mention of the corrupt senshi. It may have been a good twenty years since Jules herself had to worry about the pressures of dating life and making The Choice when it came to losing her own virginity but she could still remember the angst and dilemma that choice had been for her. Fingers rapped against the table as her eyes narrowed. The older woman's mind was racing at a mile a minute. "I'll cover your first visit, but you'll pay for your prescription and the refills," she offered as a compromise, exhaling softly. "Consider it payment for helping me with the kitten and any followup issues I may have with him."

"I wouldn't be with someone that didn't respect me."
After she said it, Rory knew that wasn't completely true. There had been a point, before Akio, where she would have given anything to be that special person for her general. It was hard to say if he respected her or only cared for what she had to offer him. At least now, she was getting better during training matches. Her bruises were fewer than they used to be.
"Jul--" The woman cut her off and Rory sat there, bewildered that the woman was willing to go to such lengths to help her. "Thank you, that - " Accepting monetary help was difficult for the young Willows who was used to penny pinching and scraping by. Akio had witnessed her fret about the cost of things time and time again and this was no different. "You don't have to do that, so thank you."
Rory wondered if this what having a mother was like. "I can do that. I - I'll pay you back too, when I have the money. I've only recently started so my savings aren't very much right now but, I can pick up more shifts." And spend less time with the boyfriend who she was already neglecting.

"Hey, what are friends for?" Her smile was soft, hiding the gentle sadness as she wondered if this was what she was meant to do in life. How sad it was, to have the desire to help but then be stripped of the opportunity of a family to provide for with such eagerness. Cruel, even. "You don't have to pay me back - it's a trade, remember?" Pulling out her phone from her back pocket, she began to type out a note for herself. "I'll set an appointment up with my physician - I think you'll like her, she's got a good bedside manner." It would have been much easier to take her to a clinic and be done with the whole thing, but knowing that Rory felt the need to approach her about such things only concerned Jules over whether or not she'd actually seen a proper doctor for other basic needs. Well, she'd take care of it, regardless. "Now..." She glanced at the watch wrapped around her slender wrist, "I don't know about you, but I'm feeling famished. Can I fix you something too, since you're here? And you can tell me all about this new boyfriend you've been hiding from me?" The playful tease in her voice wasn't hard to miss, the older woman moving to turn towards the fridge, "How do sandwiches sound?"

"I really appreciate all of this." Rory said quietly, cheeks flushed pink with mild embarrassment; flushed appeared to be her natural state of being most days, now.
"I - " she couldn't very well turn down food after Jules insisted, again. "If you have peanut butter and jam, I won't turn down a sandwich." Something that didn't require a lot of work but would be something she could eat and find filling.
"I haven't really told anyone," she admitted, pushing loose wisps of hair back behind her ear. "But, we met at the gala and, he's wonderful Jules." She sighed, trying not to think about the guilt that ate at her daily when she thought about the fact that she had a perfect, wonderful boyfriend, and she was hung up on someone else.
"I'll tell you more after we eat." She promised, trying to hide her shy smile while her companion began making them food.
Rory was extraordinarily grateful for Jules.
