Physical Description: Marty is a dark skinned girl with dark, burning eyes, and dark hair. 'Dark' is a good way to describe the young woman. She has vitiligo which is extra striking against her dark skin.
Personality: Martirae may not have a knife, but she will cut you. This hard-shelled young woman has a well sharped blade for a tongue and she doesn't use it to mince words. There is no reason to use plentiful, delicate words, when two pointed, mean words will get the point across. She will not hold your hand, she will not coddle you when you fail, and she does not want you to extend a hand to help her when she eats dirt. Martirae is self-sufficient and to get where she wants to be, she has to accept nothing but the best. That means from you, that means from herself. Being soft means destruction - she just isn't going to be the one who walks over you.

Marty may not be soft, but she's not cruel. She is a firm believer in tough love, and while she will not coddle you to do your best, and believes you need to do you best, she will not kick you while you're down. She will stand by and only offer assistance when she absolutely feels that you need it. Through this tough love, others should learn to stand on their own feet. By not letting you do your best on your own, Marty thinks she's done you no favors.

Underneath the hard shell is a soft girl who has tucked away feelings of inadequacy and rejection from her abandonment by her father. While those she keeps close will not gain any extra favors or hand-holding, they will gain a sharp tongue and a strong fist that will risk her own physical harm on your behalf - just not when you ask. While Marty is not an attack dog, she is a guard dog and whispered words or cruel acts towards those she cares for will be dealt with firmly. Cruelty towards herself is dealt with even more promptly and there is no room for backpedaling or apologies: Repent or suffer.

Like a train (or whatever our Pernese equivalent would be), Marty charges forward and doesn't stop for anything - whether you're ready for her or not.

History:
Martirae's mother was a Cartographer who had a dream about a map - a large, detailed, comprehensive map. This is a dream that Martirae carries on inside of her now that her mother has passed - and has held it firmly for nearly 7 turns now. After her mother died ,a long, drawn out, horrible, and traumatic affair with a horrible disease, her father left to go establish himself in Fort Weyr to 'move the family' away from bad memories.

He never came back. There is no evidence at Fort Weyr that the Bluerider is there. Many would be quick to guess that following the loss of his lifelong love, he may have given up on living entirely. Marty has held onto the notion that her dad is out there - and she has built up the spite and emotional strength needed to face him when they finally meet face to face. At least, she hopes so.

She has bidden her time carefully to forge herself out of fire and iron - a woman as young as she is can't travel far without being prepared, especially on her own.

Other: Is Marty's dad somewhere to be found? Maybe. Haven't decided if she'll get to sock him or if she'll find her quest fruitless.

Marty inherited her mother's work - she currently has a rather detailed map of the tunnels and layout of the entire Weyr - every...single...room. To scale. She has a lot of angry time on her hands.

Marty is super-sensitive about illness. You bet the healers see her for every minor cold or fever. You don't watch Mom go out and not have some hang-ups about that.
