Rory had finished her second official week of work and was feeling pretty good about it. The nice thing about the coffee shop was that the hours were flexible, the pay decent on top of the tip receiving option and, for the most part, people were really friendly.
Plus, most of the time, she worked the early shift which meant that she had practically her entire day ahead of her.
Though, early shift meant less time for her nightly activities which now included two nights a week where she was set to meet two of her favorite people.. Which reminded her that she hadn't been a very good girlfriend, because she'd barely been responding to his texts.
It wasn't intentional, because she liked talking to him, but was easily swept up in too many things and well, she had one secret that liked to weigh on her heart every time she saw his name flash across her (new) phone. Rory- or Hydra, she mused - had asked another man to kiss her and, had they not fallen into the fountain, she probably would have kept kissing him.
That was a problem.
Still, with her shift over, she made herself text him.
[Text to Fairytale Prince: Just got off shift, sorry! I'm about to leave, want me to bring you something?]
At the end of the message was the blowing a kiss smiley.

Akio, on the other hand, had his own dilemma to worry over. Mainly, did he want to watch something on Hulu or did he want to watch something on Netflix? The decision to become an afternoon couch potato was brought on by the consistent dodging his girlfriend had been doing of late. From several visits a week to once a week - if he was lucky - distracting himself from the lack of Aurora's presence had become the new task for his summer break. He'd wanted to tell her of his new job, that he'd accepted an offer that would change his life (for the better, hopefully), but it wasn't the sort of news one could just spring on a significant other over text messages. Not that she'd been answering many of his, lately. Lounging around alone in his apartment led to an unhealthy amount of dwelling. Not to mention the only thing on his schedule happened to be a follow-up meeting with a particular corrupted senshi... Thoughts were banished away as the phone on the coffee table began to buzz, rattling the wood of the table beneath it. He leaned over and slid the screen on, instantly delighted when he saw the familiar icon staring back at him. She'd finally responded! He gave a moment's pause before responding - he wasn't about to wait any longer and miss out on a visit from his favorite person, after all. [ Text to Dragon Princess: Are kisses on the delivery menu? Because I wouldn't mind if you brought me a few of those.]

It hadn't been the teen's intention to more or less ghost her boyfriend, but there'd been a lot of changes in her life recently that she was still adapting to. For example, having her first paid job. The employer was a man in the negaverse, who had more or less handwaved her application and told her to show up, ask for Julian and state that she was here for training. It had worked, to her surprise, and she found that she picked up on things pretty quickly.
That wasn't too surprising, considering how hard Rory worked.
She had been grabbing herself a tea lemonade when her phone buzzed in her pocket and she fished it out, At first, there was that guilty twist in her gut that melted into adoration as she unlocked her phone and read his response.
Akio was utterly ridiculous, but that was why she liked him, right?
[Text to Fairytale Prince: Dummy, you know what I'm asking.]
Somehow she couldn't keep the smile off her face as she reread his dorky message and typed up a second text.
[Text to Fairytale Prince: I think I can drop a kiss or two by. Do you want to come over or should I stop by?]

He already had his phone at the ready, waiting for the response that found its way back to his phone within minutes of him hitting send. Never in a million years would he have ever thought the term dummy to be a word of endearment. Yet, every time Aurora called him one, he couldn't help but grin. He also tried to forget, for the moment, that there was another young lady that enjoyed calling him such a nickname... Thumbs pushed away at the buttons automatically, not even second guessing his next text. [ Text to Dragon Princess: And make me share you with everyone else there?] He pursed his lips, trying to figure out an enticing offer. [ Text to Dragon Princess: I'll make it worth your while to come all the way out here! Want me to fix you a snack? Or get a movie ready?] Legs swung themselves off the couch and he straightened himself up, stretching his arms as he glanced around the apartment. It required only minor tidying if she agreed to visit him and he was pretty sure he had enough decent options in his fridge and pantry to rustle up some grub. All he needed now was his girlfriend.

When her phone buzzed, Rory glanced at the preview and couldn't stop the grin. Akio never ceased to get her to smile, when she was actually responding to him. Once again, she felt a flash of guilt as she shifted her belongings to allow her to respond to his text. She'd been a pretty crappy girlfriend lately, admittedly too eager about getting an early night to attempt to dream and see her best friend.
Who kissed her when they met in person. Who she wanted to kiss her again.
Bad, bad, bad.
She was going to be better, she had to be because Akio was the best boyfriend she could have ever asked for. Rory knew that he deserved better.
[Text to Fairytale Prince: Once I get there, I'm all yours for the night before curfew. Promise. ]
Rory wasn't going to let herself get distracted by idle thoughts about something that was probably a bad idea, even if thinking about Seal made her heart race. A head shake and a deep breath later, Rory snagged her drink and made her exit from her workplace.
[Text to Fairytale Prince: I'll see you in like fifteen? Surprise me, kay? smile ]
With that sent, she headed off to his place after shooting a quick text to her dad so he would know where she was.

All his for the night? Looks like he'd be in need of dinner as opposed to just a simple snack - not that he minded. Aurora, staying over for several hours as opposed to just one or two? Yes, please. He punched in another message onto his phone, sliding it into the back pocket of his pants immediately after pushing down on the Send button. [ Text to Dragon Princess: You've got it, beautiful. ❤ ] Alright. First thing he needed: food plans. Making his way into the kitchen, the tall man reached out with both hands and pulled open the fridge and freezer doors at the same time. Brown eyes scanned the shelves - they were lackluster, yes, but there was still potential lurking among the bottles and containers that took up egregious amounts of space, all things considered. The freezer proved more helpful, a box of Aurora's favorite brand of tofu "veggie" nuggets smuggled away in one of the door's shelves. They weren't his favorite (nothing could replace chicken, c'mon) but they got her excited and he loved seeing her excited... so he could stomach a few tofu pieces in exchange for that beautiful smile of hers. Setting the box to the side, he closed the doors and moved to turn the oven on, soon busying himself with preparation for nuggets and, after some additional digging, some frozen fries. Not exactly the healthiest dinner option, but it would be decent comfort food. And, as far as Akio was concerned, he was in for one heck of a comfortable night. After all, Aurora was coming over!!!!!

Getting to Akio's apartment from the coffee shop wasn't a long trip, especially not when Rory had brought her longboard. Sure, it wasn't the best means of transportation and it wasn't nearly as quick as taking an Uber or driving, but it was cheaper and more cost effective.
Growing up poor made the teen hyper-aware of what things cost and she had learned to count pennies early on. While she knew how to drive and had a driver's license, she never drove even when her father offered her his old beat up vehicle. He felt bad enough about how absent he was in his attempts to be able to properly provide for them, Rory wasn't going to allow him the guilt of not providing her with a car.
Besides, she preferred boarding anyway. It made her more involved in the city in a way that driving would never allow her.
Finally arriving at his place, she'd picked up her board and tucked it under her arm, bounding off to his door where she tidied her hair, smoothing out the wind-tossed locks down, then knocked on his door. Her half empty plastic up was in one hand and the board in the other, which would likely make for an awkward hug, but Rory was already preparing herself for the expected hug and smooch when he opened the door for her.
If there was anything Akio made sure to do every time they were together, it was making her feel wanted.

There was hardly enough time to get a second knock in before the door practically flung itself open, the tall young man's smile revealing everything she needed to know about his opinion towards her arrival. Noting her hands were full, he reached out and tugged her forward by her waist, moving her in just far enough to where he could shut the door behind her. The longboard was tugged out and tucked away against the wall adjacent to the front door, giving him enough space to slide his hands beneath her arms and lift her up into a whirlwind of a hug. " I've missed you." His words were soft, lips pressing gently next to her cheek as he squeezed her into a tight hug. The world felt right when Aurora Willows was present and he wasn't about to run her off by making her feel unwanted. Heck, she was the most wanted thing in his world. Finally settling her back down to her feet, he grabbed her free hand and led her directly to the couch, centered in the room. "I've started making dinner, so your job is to pick out what we're going to watch first." First implying it would only be the beginning of their evening. Plucking up the remote from the coffee table, he slid the cool plastic into her small, perfect hand. "Just nothing too scary, unless you want to spend the rest of the night with my face hiding against your shoulder." With a wink, he released her hands and returned to the kitchen area, the smell of tofu nuggets wafting from the oven.

Rory let out a squeak when she was pulled inside that quickly dissolved into happy laughter when he took her board and scooped her up and spun her around. "Akio!" She giggled, his whispered words against her cheek sending a thrill down her spine. The guilt settled in right after despite how she knew he'd say that to her regardless, because he always missed her when they weren't together.
She had been avoiding him and he didn't deserve that, not when he made her feel light and warm and happy.
"Well, I'm here so you don't have to miss me right now." She attempted to pull back so she could kiss him, but he was leading her into the living room, setting her on the couch and pushing the remote into her hand. "Like you need an excuse," she tried to tease but he was gone before she could say anything else and she frowned.
It took her a minute before she settled on Moana because it had just been added to Netflix and she liked the songs. Twisting on the couch, she let half of her body rest against it, staring almost sadly into the kitchen. "I thought you wanted some kisses delivered."

"And break up the kissing by having to tend to the oven?" The voice called out from the kitchen, the sound of drawers opening and closing accompanying his reasoning, "I'd rather start when I knew we wouldn't be interrupted." He'd rather do several other things on top of kissing, but he was a respectful boyfriend. Mostly. Making his way around the couch, he was quick to offer her a plate, drawing it down until it was within her reach. A handful of nuggets sat alongside some oven baked, frozen-bagged fries with a scoop of premixed salad that was clearly an afterthought addition to the meal. "Perhaps I was hoping to earn a few more kisses in exchange for dinner. Cold nuggets don't taste nearly as good as warm ones do, I'm told." Leaning down, he pressed his lips against the top of her forehead before she could argue. "What can I get you to drink? And did you find something to watch?" His head turned to the side, faking his enthusiasm about their movie choice as he pretended to not be completely and entirely smitten with the woman curled on the couch in front of him.

"But I didn't even get a hello kiss."
Those were basically required, and expected, since they'd become a habit since the pair of them started dating. Regardless of how logical his response was, Rory still pouted at him when he came out of the kitchen.
Despite herself, she couldn't help but think of the last person to press their lips against hers and her heart stuttered in response. Jade eyes blinked several times while she took the plate and turned to sit properly on the couch with the plate in her lap.
She was going to be good and she was going to be present no matter what.
Rory had promised she was his for the evening and no handsome dream guardian was going to ruin that for them.
"I still have tea from work, I'm okay. What I want is for my boyfriend to sit next to me and kiss me hello like he usually does." She was being more demanding than usual, because things were different and it was her fault and she needed things to feel more normal so she would just focus on how wonderful the man she'd snagged as her significant other was.
"Please, Akio?"

Setting his plate down onto the coffee table, Akio wasted no time in making himself at home on the couch next to her, refusing to allow any space between where they sat. Legs pressed against legs, his torso turning while one arm snaked its way behind her back. Aurora was being more insistent, whereas she normally remained quiet and let him control their affections. He enjoyed her demands and was happy to comply - if not slightly concerned with the sudden change of emotion. He debated asking her about it, but first things first... One hand moved forward and cupped her cheek, the pad of his thumb gently stroking her soft skin as he leaned towards her. Grinning, the hand moved to the back of her head and tangled its way through turquoise hair as he whispered softly, "Anything for you, beautiful." The kiss he pressed against her lips wasn't the normal, cheerful peck he usually peppered over her lips, cheeks and nose. This was more meaningful and long, mouth opening slightly as he moved to nearly immediately deepen it. It told her how much he'd missed her, how much he desired her and how much he adored her, without uttering a single syllable. It would be a minute or two before he was willing to pull away, tilting his forehead down until it was pressed against hers. "Hello, then," he corrected himself, grinning.

Were it not for the plate of food carefully balanced in her lap, Rory might have crawled into Akio's when he finally kissed her. Still her hands slid over his shoulders and one hand mimicked his, sliding into short dark locks while she sighed happily into his mouth. Like always, a kiss from her boyfriend was like a breath of fresh air after being stuck inside for too long and while she couldn't keep the memory of warmth from another's mouth against hers off her mind, she was at least able to focus on how nice it was to be here, with someone she knew wanted her like she was supposed to want him.
Unable to help her whine when he finally pulled away, Rory still found herself grinning in response.
"Hi, Akio." She replied, biting down on her lip to hide how pleased she was by him and the kiss. A little more quietly, she added, "I missed you too." It wasn't like she hadn't been thinking about him, but guilt had her acting funny and she resolved to set aside whatever she felt for her dream prince and focus on the very real, living one before her who already had her.
(It wasn't hard for her to realize that if she hadn't tried to leave, Sealie probably wouldn't have kissed her.)
"But I think I need another kiss, before dinner." Assuming he wouldn't protest, Rory leaned forward and kissed him again, this time being the one to push more into the kiss.

"I missed you too."How long had he been waiting to hear her say that again? Okay, granted, it had only been a week or so since they'd last spoken but in the scheme of things and the almost two months they'd begin together, one week was a relatively long time to go without hearing a voice he'd been so accustomed to being around now. Dreams were fun to haunt - even more fun to bring to life - but nothing, nothing could replace his beautiful Aurora's presence in his world. She kissed him and he took delight in her forwardness, returning the affection as best he could manage while reining in his building desire. Afterwards, he brought his own plate up to his lap for both distraction and comfort reasons, one hand dipping down to pluck up a nugget and bite into it. Chewing thoughtfully, he debated bringing up the question that kept pestering the back of his mind. Finally, he caved. "So what's kept you away from me for so long, beautiful?"

Akio pulled away for food, which was disappointing, but he had gone through the effort of providing a meal for her that she knew he didn't particularly care for. Her boyfriend didn't understand her aversion to meat, but he didn't question it and accommodated her as he could and she appreciated that. Which meant that when he started eating, she did too.
Well, after she shifted to curl up against him first.
A nugget was picked up and held between her forefinger and her thumb, hovering above her plate when he posed his question. Her stomach dropped, her desire to tell the truth strong and conflicting at the same time. There was no way she could explain that she was confused about her feelings for a man she thought only existed in her dreams but turned out to be very real.
Not to mention the whole military scout aspect of her life. Yeah, that wasn't something she was ready to share.
"I've just been busy." She winced, hearing how much of a cop out it all sounded like. "Between the new job with the varying hours, trying to squeeze some volunteer work in, working my dad into a state where he's not going to kill you when he meets you..." She trailed off, nugget dropping onto the table so she could wave her hand around. "Checking on Ax, to make sure he's not dead." She hadn't seen Pasi in a while but now that she was graduated and had a boyfriend, her nights were less lonely and that meant she'd stopped showing up at his door unannounced. "I have a friend, name B, who can only visit for a few hours on specific days, so I try to make sure I can see him. I didn't mean to neglect you. I'm sorry."
