This should have been a job for someone else, Kara thinks. Maybe a Mist or a Death. Spying on someone is not a Moon's job, but here she's been assigned to follow two of the hunters assigned to the Arctic base and find out what they're up to. Someone has reported something suspicious, she assumes. Not that that would ordinarily be any of her business, and frankly she's kind of angry that it's been made into her business. It's cold here, icy bone-chilling cold, and no matter how she wraps up she's freezing. She hopes she's never assigned to this base herself.
(This won't be a problem, but she'll never actually know that, or why.)
The pair she's been assigned to follow has spent the morning busy with various completely ordinary tasks, whenever she's been able to check on what they're doing. It's less urgent when they're not together, but if they meet she's supposed to find a way to hear what they talk about. This becomes a problem shortly after lunch, when the two of them meet up and leave the base itself, purportedly on a routine patrol. This makes Kara's job much harder.
She follows, intending to catch up and hopefully overhear something before she's spotted and has to make her excuses for being here; there's no way she's going to be able to get enough cover out here in the ice and blowing snow. There are hills and valleys of crooked ice, but the cover is terrible, and the wind will make trying to overhear anything nearly impossible. She can at least interrupt them, though.
They follow a set path, and she decide to cut across part of the distance, taking a straight line where their path is curved. This is a mistake, and she only realizes that when the ice beneath her feet creaks softly and then gives way.
The crevasse is deep. She has enough time to anticipate, enough time to hear Delly's silent scream as the weapon understands along with her what is happening to them. It's likely that her tablet will never be found, and Kara is almost more sorry for that idea, in the brief moments before impact.
