If this was a game, it was terrible.

If this was a dream, he wasn't sure why his brain had come up with this.

He knew he wasn't a Hunter. He knew he didn't belong here. It weighed on his shoulders and it bothered him.

The first thing he thought of was perhaps talking to one of his Hunter friends. Or actual friends? Or not actual friends. He wasn't sure. He wasn't sure what any of this was. Ignatius didn't really care though, determined to get to the man he knew for the moment as Richard, and smash his hand against his dorm room door in an attempt to get his attention.

"HEY!"

Arrakis jolted, suddenly aware of the room around him where he had not been a moment before. His brain registered the pounding on his door and he clambered awkwardly to his feet, the lap blanket falling to the floor behind him in a heap that he neither noticed nor cared about. The look he caught of himself in a mirror as he moved made a cold hand grip around his heart. What was this? Was he dreaming?

The pounding pulled him back to his senses and he continued toward the door. What was going on? Who was trying to get in? Would he even be safe opening the door? What if they realised he was the fake he had realised he was? Why was he here? Why was he a Hunter of all the wretched-- Looking at himself alone had felt like betrayal of a very deep core part of his being. This was wrong, this was very, horribly, utterly wrong.

He swung the door open, eyes wide and a bit wild, breath already coming a bit too fast, a fact that registered too late for him to do anything about. He squawked something at the one in front of him, nothing resembling actual words, and ushered him quickly inside.

Ignatius could assume at least by the look on Richard's face that he, too, wasn't a Hunter. It hit him dimly after the fact that maybe Richard had been a Hunter as well, and going to him might have been a bad idea, but it didn't ultimately matter seeing as Richard seemed to look like he was staring at some kind of horror show.

He shuffled in, shutting the door behind him just in case there were other Hunters who were actually Hunters, or something. Though he doubted it. He was fairly sure he heard some chaos in the hallways.

After a moment, he blurted out, "Why are we Hunters?!" like Richard had any more of an answer than he did. Maybe he should ask for his name. "Also your name isn't Richard right, because that's super boring. No offense."

Arrakis stared very stupidly at him for a moment, blinking once, twice, as his ability to comprehend words and language came back online. His breathing was still coming too quickly, and his ears were full of buzzing from the pounding of his heartbeat. His brain told him to run, that this was a Hunter in front of him, and that that was a very, very bad thing. He was unprepared. He was woefully, utterly unprepared, and he did not want to die. Not like this. Why had he let him in? Why had he--

The blurted question shook him out of it, and Arrakis visibly reoriented and relaxed a hair.

'...super boring, no offense.'

He wasn't sure why, but that made him laugh. It was a wheezing, shaky laugh full of relief, and he leaned against the wall where he stood.

"No, my name isn't Richard. It's an awful name, isn't it?" He laughed again, a little stronger this time, running his hands through his hair. "No, no, it's Arrakis. Not Richard." He mouthed 'Richard' to himself a few more times, deciding he did not like overmuch the sound or feel of it. "You?"

"Oh thank Jack."

The reaction was probably unnecessary and initially unwanted, but Ignatius gave into the instinct that he had to immediately grab Arrakis and wrap him into a hug. It took a few seconds before he realized that this was probably a bad idea without explaining himself fully, so he continued, "I'm Ignatius. Which really isn't that far from Ignacio, but. Hi."

He laughed, oddly sheepishly for Ignatius. Probably because he had just decided to cling to Arrakis. Ignatius backed up a step. "Shitty game this is isn't it?"

He plucked at his skin distastefully.

"I'm pale like a normal ghost at the moment. This is gross."

The hug had, indeed, caught him by surprise. On instinct, he had gone stiff and frozen, only to relax when Ignatius identified himself. After a moment, before responding, Arrakis returned the gesture, dragging Ignatius close enough for a firm hug of his own. He did not hold the hug for as long, however, before releasing Ignatius and offering a chuckle.

"This is not my idea of fun. I hate this game, to be quite honest with you. I mean..." he looked at himself, "I don't look too terribly different I guess, but..." He rolled up a sleeve, clucking disdainfully at the bare, unadorned skin underneath. Tugging his sleeve back down, he sighed. "I suppose there's some differences I'd rather do without... Speaking of without--I don't have my sword." He gestured to the weapon leaning against the table, shaking his head. "I'm not liking this at all, to tell you the truth."

Ignatius had to admit he enjoyed the returned and firm hug. It was comforting, at the very least. And plus Arrakis mostly looked like himself, unlike Ignatius, so he could pretend for a few moments Arrakis was actually himself and maybe this wasn't happening and he wasn't a Hunter.

Arrakis' skin looked so barren, though.

But at least it mostly looked right otherwise. Ignatius' definitely didn't. His whole body didn't look right. His feet were so ... human-looking.

"Hey, you don't have your sword? I actually have a weapon. And it keeps staticking at me. And there's no electricity. I can't feel it in the air." He flicked his fingers in the air, as if he was trying to feel something, anything. It was unsuccessful. "I almost wish I could jam my fingers into a socket just to feel something, but from what I understand humans don't really do as well with that. Right?"

He wasn't exactly a human expert, but he had taken some classes.

Reapers should know. They were basically humans. Sort of.

Ignatius as a human was honestly very unsettling, though Arrakis was trying to push through that. The question Ignatius gave him helped, and he snorted in amusement.

"No, humans don't do well with electricity. It kills them, usually. Not all the time, but most of the time." He tried to jam his hands into pockets that weren't there, and he realised he was in his pajamas. So, he settled for crossing his arms. "Please don't stick your finger in a power socket." He wasn't sure what that would do to him within ... whatever was going on. If there was a way out, he didn't want Ignatius wiping himself from existence before they could find it. Rocking back on his heels, he puffed some of his hair out of his face. "...So, what now?"

"Ha! That explains why I exist, then. If humans normally die from electricity, they probably don't like it."

Of course, a lot of human gadgets ran with electricity, too. He knew that much. Humans were strange. If it was so dangerous to them, why hadn't they developed some kind of alternate power source? Not that electricity wasn't an amazing power source, of course--

"That is an excellent question," admitted Ignatius, mostly because he didn't know what they were supposed to be doing at this point. He tapped his fingers on his leg impatiently, only to stop doing so as he lifted his hand to look at it in disgust. He truly hated how he looked at the moment. It was wrong. His skin was far too pink and red and it definitely didn't look like the skin of a lightning elemental. There wasn't even any glowing.

He grinned, turning back to Arrakis after a moment. "I don't know. Trash the Island?" This seemed like a good idea to him for a moment, before he added, "or maybe we should just relax or something. It seems like we're stuck here for the moment, so."

"Trash the island?" Though, to be honestly, Arrakis couldn't say it wasn't a super, super tempting notion. He had had quite enough of the place, thank you very much. His only reluctance stemmed from the fact that he wasn't sure how long they would remember themselves, if they were going to forget or not. "I mean, I suppose we could try to find a way out of this, but..." He puffed hair out of his face again as he looked around the room he'd woken up in. "I wouldn't even know where to begin. All I know is I'm quite done with whatever's happening. Uncle. Or something." He spun in place, slowly, looking at his room again. Was it even his room? Well, yes, but... was it really?

"Ollee ollee oxen free," he sighed. "Relaxation couldn't be too bad, I suppose... I'm not sure that making targets of ourselves out there would be a good idea." He winced, gesturing to the door. "I don't know what the limits of this place are."

Ignatius frowned when Arrakis admitted he didn't know where he'd even start with getting out of there.

Mostly because Ignatius had no clue, either.

"Who knows where to begin," he admitted, with a small sigh. "We're clearly not in Halloween anymore, that's for sure. Or at least I don't think we are. I don't know. This is a game so maybe this is all some kind of simulation. Maybe we're still sleeping in bed." That didn't quite explain the sinking regret he felt for a reason he didn't understand, but it did make him feel slightly better about being a Hunter. Maybe he was just hallucinating.

Considering all that had happened during his time at Amityville, it probably hadn't been the first time.

"And I know we're not Hunters, but that's not to say others aren't Hunters," added Ignatius, uncomfortably. "I mean there's probably other not-hunters, I think I heard them in the hallways. But you're right that we shouldn't risk it."

Ignatius trudged his way to Arrakis' fake-bed and flopped down on it, sighing.

"I mean, I hope we're in Halloween, because I don't terribly like the idea that we were teleported somewhere. Or something." He began to pace between the bed and the front door. That same feeling of regret already had a deep hold on Arrakis, and he was very clearly unsettled. He tried again to stuff his hands in pockets that weren't there and settled this time for rubbing them against his upper arms as he paced. "I know neither one of us are Hunters, that's for sure." He pinched the bridge of his nose and muttered something distinctly foul. "I wish I knew of a way out of here, but..."

He sat down on the foot of his bed, running his hands through his hair. "I wish I knew of anyone else that might be like us."

"See, part of me is just like, maybe we should just go ask."

Ignatius flopped his weirdly human legs over Arrakis' lap just because it was there, flexing his feet back and forth. Human feet were weird. How did they stay balanced without a back toe? Was there a reason why all their toes were centered at the front? What was the purpose of the way their feet were built? His seemed more useful, so far as he could tell.

Of course, Arrakis had weird human feet even when he wasn't a human and he still seemed fine. At least he assumed he did. He hadn't exactly seen Arrakis with his shoes off very much.

"And normally I would just go ask, but do we know if everyone is in the same weird fever dream as we are? I mean, I'd assume they are, I mean I heard some upset noises around, but at the same time this whole situation is weird."

He sighed, flipping over to grab a pen off the nearby end table. Maybe he should just write his actual name on his wrist, which he started to do.

"I mean, we could just go ask, but the last thing I want a bunch of possible Hunters to know is that we're here." He didn't seem to mind Ignatius flopping his legs on him, leaning back on his hands a bit and lightly jiggling his own foot where it hung off his bed. "Let me see that pen after you. That's a good idea." He looked up at the ceiling. "Maybe they're not real Hunters, but honestly I don't want to take the chance that they are, you know? I'd like to think we'd be safe, but..." He shook his head. Ignatius' human feet honestly didn't occur to him beyond casual notice, at least insofar as his entire shape was weird to Arrakis. The feet were inconsequential in the light of everything else. "We could try sneaking out, I suppose, but..." That would require him to know his way around this area, which... he did not.

"Yeah sure," Ignatius, after adding 'ur an element ok' underneath his name on his wrist, threw the pen over at Arrakis. Maybe they would be able to get something out of this nonsense if they ended up forgetting again.

Which, if this was a dream, they probably would.

"I guess our best bet for now, then, is just to make sure we know what's going on. I'd love to say I really know this place, but I don't. But I do?" Being a Mist Specialist in this dream, supposedly, granted with it some familiarity with the island, but it all felt distant and weird at the moment. He wasn't a Hunter. A Hunter likely wouldn't mind if Ignatius didn't actually exist. There was no way he could be a Hunter.

"And if this is an island anyway, sneaking out is only gonna do so much good."
