There was a reason why Sun hunters were usually assigned to one of the Sahara bases when Deus could spare an additional pair of hands. Yakov mulled quietly to himself as he stared at the horizon and the vast expense of sand that was beneath it.
Turned out that he was a temporary replacement for the guy whom they lost to an ambush last week. At least until the next person they had in mind got back from a mission that is. Out here in the desert, the sun, sand and winds were as unforgiving as the horsemen that have made this place their stronghold which meant that Yakov needed to stay sharp at all times lest he too ended up dead like the hunter who was the reason behind his temporary assignment here.

It was almost like a curse that the horsemen would be summoned if one so much as thought of or spoke of them out here. There was a shout, the only warning that all of them had to get up and summon their weapons before the first wave came. Summoning his falchion to his hand, Yakov jumped from the ledge he was on to plunge the blade into the horseman's back.

Obviously displeased by what he had just done, the horseman whirled around to glare at him, throwing him to the ground with the momentum of its action before lunging forward to try to plunge its spear into his belly.

Yakov parried the blow with his falchion, his legs kicking up the dust as he tried to back up a little so that he could get up and face the horseman once more.

James reminded him in his mind, his partner's way of telling him that he had accumulated enough charges to use his weapon's special abilities.
< Let's do it then. >
There was a grunt to acknowledge his intent in his mind which was followed by the falchion taking on a new form with hooks appearing along its surface and tip. Tightening his grip on the weapon, he charged towards the horseman and a growl.

With his opponent badly injured after that last attack, it was time to finish it off as Yakov wasted no time in plunging his blade through its heart to end it.
