Laboratory Technician// Confidential Work

Quote:
[ JOB LISTING ] Laboratory Technician
[ DIFFICULTY LEVEL ] gaia_star gaia_star gaia_star
[ TASK ]

Isabelle has entrusted you with a new security clearance, allowing you to do work in the more secretive Experimental arm of the labs. Your lab specimens today are hidden inside of a room with no windows and no door you have access to. With you is a lab station with several substances, a computer with extensive readouts, and a file on your specimen. The room is oddly soundproof to all things.

Roll 2d20. You must combine substances into a mixture that causes harm . You must successfully craft and administer this concoction to succeed. After creating the mixture, you slide the syringe into a slot and simply wait to see the results.

You may attempt this 3 times per day.

You must sign an NDA to work in this branch, a non-disclosure agreement that binds you from talking too freely about the work done due to the cutting edge technology, but you are welcome to chat freely with other techs. This means you may write with a friend if you like. Feel free to explore any moral implications with these tests.

Match each individual dice to the below. You may choose what sort of "animal" is within the room from the following list: chicken, chimpanzee, dog, guinea pig, horse, mouse.

Mixtures:
• 1-4: The solution is viscous, vibrant red, and reeks of metal.
• 5-8: The mixture is runny, dim green, and smells of a boggy swamp.
• 9-12: The mixture does not come together. Fail, try again.
• 13-16: The acidic liquid is translucent blue, and cloudy. It has no odor.
• 17-20: The substance is entirely black, as if a hole was there rather than matter. It smells of sulfur.

Effects:
• 1-4: The target's readings go haywire for a moment, but they soon recover. Fail, try again.
• 5-8: The vital signs slow until they remain low enough to be considered an induced coma. Success.
• 9-12: The readings are unclear, suddenly distorting as if affected by a magnetic field. Success.
• 13-16: While the room is sound proof, you can still hear echoes of nightmarish screams. Success. Please quote Its Me Debz or Nothing Yet for a reward.
• 17-20: The specimen has broken loose from the room. Please evacuate and consider this a success.

After your day has concluded, please fill out the following form describing your experience here at Bates Diagnostics. Your happiness is important to us. (Answers may be brief.)

Richard had to admit that laboratory testing was not high on his list of career interests, but he pushed that down as he was given his instructions. There was no window and no door, which was... stifling, but he swallowed that down, too. He had a job to do and he was going to do it. He had been uneasy about signing the non-disclosure agreement, but was optimistic that his signature was relatively well-enough disguised. The--Isabelle?--shouldn't know who he was, or be able to find him, ideally, should this go fantastically wrong. Even if this job involved some high-level clearance. There were no other technicians present in the room, something that alarmed him at first, but this seemed to be normal, so he let it go.

Of the animals presented to him, he chose the mouse. It would be the smallest, and the easiest to handle. If it bit or fought back, the chance of severe injury was greatly lessened. He hardly wanted to deal with a chimpanzee, and a horse... no thank you. He liked all of his bones right where they belonged, and in one piece. Putting the mouse to the side, he turned his attention to the substances he would have to be mixing in the first place. With a glance to make sure the mouse was secure, he pulled the components closer.

Sitting at the computer and consulting the files on each substance, he made an educated guess as to which liquids he should be combining. Hoping very fervently he did not blow up the lab--and that if he did, he could get out--Richard poured the allocated amounts from their beakers into a single graduated cylinder. He poured very carefully, not sure if it would splash and not honestly wanting to find out. The liquid turned dark blue and, when he tested it, proved acidic. Definitely not wanting to get any on himself, now, he drew some up into a syringe and turned toward the mouse he'd isolated earlier.

Well, it looked like all he had to do was put the syringe in the slot. He didn't have to actually administer the contents himself. That was a relief, as he'd never given anyone a shot and didn't particularly want to start now. One it was in place, he sat back to wait for the results. The results began fairly immediately--reduced respiratory rate and heartbeat, slowed motion, sluggishness--but it was still several minutes until the effects had set in completely. Looking over the comatose mouse, Richard noted the results down on the clipboard he'd been provided. Following that, he put everything back where it was supposed to go and cleared the room as quickly as he discreetly could.
