[ JOB LISTING ] Loan Shark

[ DIFFICULTY LEVEL ] gaia_star gaia_star gaia_star

[ TASK ] It's time to call in some loans - aka the bank's most formidable and infamous task, what they're best known for. Luna - or rather, Luna's assistants - have scheduled you some interviews with people who are behind on their loan payments.

[ MECHANICS ] Roll 1d100 and see how well you've fared. You may have two clients a day.

  • 01 - 15 - The person you've been instructed to speak to is a young teenager who keeps crying everywhere. It's a little flustering to try and talk when someone is sobbing on your shoulder...needless to say. Luna simply hands you a tissue to figure things out, and you have snot on your shoulder. ( fail )

  • 16 - 30 - A set of triplets has arrived to claim their reasoning for being behind on their small business loan. All of them are quite cheerful, but sometimes too much talking gets confusing; fortunately, you can sort through all of their yammering in order to get them to pay a portion back. Luna is satisfied. ( pass )

  • 31 - 45 - Your patron looks so much like someone you know that it throws you off your game for a few seconds. Luna seems to think this is quite normal; maybe it's just one of those weird doppleganger coincidences. Either way, you're comfortable speaking with them. ( pass )

  • 46 - 60 - You spend the appointment reminiscing with an elderly patron who just seemed to want to talk. Luna, although still quiet, seems strangely satisfied with this outcome and gives you one of their rare nods of approval by the end. ( pass )

  • 61 - 75 - You flirt your way to getting a payment with your patron. Or, if you're not good at flirting, you're good at persuading somehow. They flirt back, but alas, it's not meant to be. Still, they're good natured about it, and so are you (hopefully). ( fail )

  • 76 - 90 - Your patron has a puppy that you get completely distracted by - whether in a good way or a bad way, regardless, you completely forget your original goal.( fail )

  • 91 - 100 - You meet with a high profile client who is as smooth as a shark and as cool as a cucumber. Nothing you say and do can ruffle them, but in spite of this, Luna is satisfied when you managed to skillfully get them to repay a portion of their owed money. ( pass )

Crying teenagers were the worst.

Not only did Zere have to deal with a teenager, but crying on top of that?

It was awkward, to say the least.

Breathing in through his nose so as to not alarm the customer, he pressed his hands together and listened as they sobbed into their tissue, lamenting about the fact that they had no experience and couldn't find a job to pay back their loan, as well as how hard they'd tried and couldn't even manage to get an interview.

It was all Zere could do to restrain himself on not rubbing his face -- he had to keep up a stoic guise, after all... even if he didn't care.

Okay, it wasn't that he didn't care -- he honestly couldn't relate. He was well off himself, but due to losing so many people, including his family... he just couldn't relate.

Money problems? Man. Zere wished he had money problems compared to no family.

"Don't you have family?" He found himself asking, staring right at them. "Family that will let you borrow money...?"

Who reads this rubbish?

His main weapon is a rather sizeable black whip.

".... well," The teenager replied, biting their knuckle, an evident bad habit that they seemed to have. They breathed in as more tears leaked out of their eyes, down their cheeks, and off of their jaw onto their lap.

"I did get... birthday money--"

"Great," Zere murmured softly. "It is in your best interest to keep a high credit. If you pay now... I can waive the fact that you were late. How does that sound?"

The teenager's eyes widened.

"You'd do that?"

"Yes. I would do that."

This seemed to calm the teenager down, and they paid, a lot happier leaving than they had been entering.

Zere always found it strange when people were happier broke than they were rich. It was a strange conundrum.
