[ JOB LISTING ] Assistant Metalworker
[ DIFFICULTY LEVEL ] gaia_star gaia_star

[ TASK ]
The metalworkers are a side division of Horse, a place for Death horsemen and other crafting inclined clans members to test out new blends of materials for potential use in their products and to help supply neighbouring horseman front businesses with better materials for weapons and other creations.

As a part time metalworker you get to work under the master smiths and craft. It is hot, tough unpleasant work but it is what floats some people's boat.

[ MECHANICS ]
Roll 1d6 twice, each roll is half the day.

  1. - You mix in the molten metals in the forge as instructed but the result doesn't blend properly and when it cools you are left with a cracked mess and a very disappointed supervisor.
  2. - Following the instructions works out really well and you get a bar of some of the nicest purest metal you have ever seen.
  3. - Filling in a large metal mould for the manufacture of an important part goes off without a hitch, and you are given a big smile rather than the usual scolding.
  4. - Tyr is stopping by and you can either explain your days work to him (by Quoting Baneful) or you can assume he was really into it and took note of your name for potential promotions in future.
  5. - Everything goes really badly, no matter what you do the anvil doesn't like you, the forge hates you and everything you try to do is fraught with problems. -
  6. - You get to finish early for lunch or heading home as all the tasks for the day are completed in record time.

Well this really wasn't the sort of thing Zyk had had much experience in. His talents lay more with experimentation, research, and the development of of various elixirs and droughts. Metalworking was more a Death thing, but they had needed more help in that department, so Zyk had gotten shuffled along in that direction. Something that had annoyed him initially, but now that he was there, he found himself intrigued, and just a bit eager to learn how this all was done.

The studio he found himself in was incredibly hot. Hotter even than the famine alchemist was used to. A dry, uncomfortable heat that had him breathing out in a long, thoughtful puff as he observed the master smiths at work.

After a moment one of them noticed him standing there and waved him over. For a little while things seemed to be going smoothly. Zyk had gotten the hang of the basic handling of the equipment, and was working on folding two different metals together when the CEO of the company seemed to appear over his shoulder.

At first the famine just blinked back at the stallion, then he heaved a small sigh and returned to his work. If the boss wanted to watch, that was fair, but if he was expecting more than beginner's competence, he'd be a bit disappointed.

Things got a bit easier again once Tyr disappeared back from where he'd come from. Zyk's focus no longer split between what he was doing, and trying to keep an eye on the other stallion. Though he wasn't quite sure why he cared what the other thought. Zyk was only here to lend a hand, not seek more permanent employment.

Now he seemed to be moving along at a decent clip. The metal smith gave instructions, giving demonstrations where needed, and Zyk would nod and dive into the work with the same sort of curious vigor he showed for a fresh round of experimentation on a newly acquired subject.

And while he wasn't exactly good at what he was doing here, he also wasn't terrible, either. He managed to do everything set to him in a competent and comfortable pace that allowed them to finish the work for that day early. It meant once lunch time rolled along he was dismissed. Free to go enjoy the rest of his day,
