Dreary rainy weather had changed into snow as the rogue lion traversed looking for a bit of sun.

Needless to say, Hadathi felt like he was in quite the predicament. It was his hope that this direction would have a warmer climate. Boy, was he wrong there.

It was probably best to back track. The storms seemed to be getting worse. Yet he still had a vain idea that maybe, if he just...shifted his direction a few degrees, there might be a dramatic change elsewhere. Needless to say that idea didn't work out either.

The lion shivered as an icy gust of wind hit his face. He was never one for cold weather. In fact, this was his first---and if he had a choice, last time-- in the snow. The crunchy water wasn't his favourite to be in. Far too cold and wet for his liking. He was positive that there was some water frozen to his paws. To make matters worse, there was no food nearby. He scoffed, shaking his head. Why would there be? Was there anything that could live in a cold and wet environment?

One thing was obvious. He needed some shelter, fast. Hadathi peered around, and saw a blurry rock like structure in the distance a few feet away. His step quickened towards it, wishing, praying that it was a cave.

He only hoped he wasn't wrong.

User ImageOh this was a mistake. Such a huge mistake. The bright yellow lioness had been so curious when it began to snow. She'd heard of it, of course, but had never come across an area that experienced it before. So when the rain froze over and fell as flakes instead, she'd been delighted. Yes, the wind was bitingly cold, but she'd been so distracted by wanting to see more of it that she had kept moving further into the area.

Now Xing was stuck. Oh how she wished that she had gone away from the weather. She could have watched from afar! Or come back after it was done!

But no, instead she was huddled underneath a small outcropping she'd found. It really wasn't much. More of a decent-sized hole in the ground, clearly made by someone else who'd perhaps run into the same problem as her. At least there wasn't a body in here with her. THAT would have been a bad sign.

She was starting to worry that she'd be buried in here though. The hole she was in was slanted down underneath a flat boulder, some long grass partially covering the entrance, and while said grass was helping to stop the snow from getting in, it was also starting to build into a wall. She tapped her claws anxiously against the ground, debating over her options. If she left, she had no guarantee that there would be more shelter, but if she stayed... this could very well end up an icy tomb.

Whining unhappily, Xing shivered both at the implications and the cold. She didn't want to be buried alive! Maybe she could make a run for it somewhere. She'd just look out, run a little ways to see if there was a better shelter, and if not, she'd come back. Simple as that! So, huffing against her paws one more time to try and bring warmth back to them, she braced herself and then flung her body forward into the ice cold wind.

There was a figure in the distance. Hadithi stretched his neck out and narrowed his eyes in a squint. ....But what? He wasn't one to fear any animal. As a lion, he knew he was top predator in his world and wasn't proved wrong yet. All the lions he's met hadn't been too intimidating or threatening. So it goes without saying that the male trudged his way closer to the figure.

Who was...yellow? His ear twitched as he contemplated. Strangely enough he had never ran across a yellow lion before. More importantly it was life. A moving, living, breathing lion. He hadn't seen anything living for quite some time. Needless to say, it was quite a shock. How did they survive for so long out here?

"Hey!" Hadithi had to nearly shout in this weather. He severely hoped that they heard. Previous experience had taught him that surprising others may frighten them, even if he did a great friendship out of it. His stomach rumbled as he came closer, but he chose to ignore it. Shelter was his first go to. And company out in the middle of nowhere didn't hurt either. "Name's Hadithi. Mind if I tag along?" Even if the lion didn't have anything, two brains were always better than one.

Okay, maybe jumping out into a snowstorm wasn't the brightest idea. Icy snow caught and melted on her fur, soaking her the second she burst out of her hole. She jogged a few paces forward before realizing that she couldn't see very well in the storm. Xing felt panic well up inside her, as she slid to a stop and glanced around frantically for a new shelter.

It was due to this panic that she didn't notice the voice calling out to her at first. By the time she registered that someone had spoken, he was already almost upon her. She jumped in surprise, just barely stifling the scream that almost left her throat, and stared with wide eyes at the male that seemed to come out of nowhere.

Ears pulled back, she took a few deep breathes to calm herself. He seemed friendly enough, probably about as worried over the storm as she was, and it was with this thought that she decided that yeah, she would like some friendly company right now. She wasn't sure how much more her shot nerves could take. "I'm... Xing. And if you can help find somewhere warm and dry, then by all means."

Oh no.

Hadithi's jaw went slack, his brows pinched with worry as Xing jumped and whipped around to stare at him. That..wasn't good. His call out to the lioness didn't seem to work. The male put on a nervous, slightly shaky smile and decided to sit down. Maybe that would make him look a bit more approachable. Unfortunately, he wasn't expecting his backside to sink into the snow as well. The lion's eyes flew open as a strangled exclamation went past his lips. He cringed. Great. Hadithi had never been a fan of the cold, but more importantly, he wasn't a fan of the wet.

As both bypassed his fur, there was one thing that was made clear. Today was not his day.

Yet, he did find this interesting creature. The male's smile was quickly put back into place. Yeah, it wasn't too bad after all. It was the bigger things in life that mattered, not the smaller.

"Sorry for frightenin' ya," Hadithi shook his head, trying to rid of some of the snow that was trying to lay into his fur, voice light and airy. Her stance...Was she still frightened? Or was she cautious? The lion's grin grew wider, showing a bit of teeth. What else could he do to seem a bit friendly?

Conversation was one. And boy, did Hadithi not mind that. "Nice to meet you, Xing!" The male clucked his tongue. Xing. "Very catchy. I like it. Xing." It rolled out of his mouth so well and left a comfortable tingle in his mind afterwards. If words had tastes, he'd bet her name was warm and could create a bit of fire and heat even in the coldest weather.

But..she didn't have shelter. The edges of his lips down turned momentarily. So much for that hope. Still, he had her company so it wasn't all that bad. "I was looking for that myself, Hadithi looked towards the southeast. There seemed to be something in the distance...too blurry to make out. "Shouldn't be a problem with two heads yeah?" He looked back at her and flashed her a toothy smile before moving forward. "I think I see something this way.."

The yellow lioness watched in surprise as the male sat back and then suddenly cringed. The ground must be cold. And wet. Just incredibly uncomfortable, but he seemed to bounce back from it. She muttered back an, "It's fine," to him apologizing, not really blaming him for her being shocked to see him. If anything, this weather was to blame, and the sooner she was out of it, the better!

Xing tilted her head at his comment about her name, before smiling tentatively back at him. She wondered how he would react if he knew that that was actually her nickname. Her full name was much longer, and sometimes she wondered where on earth her mother had come up with it. 'Then again, mom always was a strange one.'

She swiped a tongue across her mouth, slightly thirsty now from her freak out through the snow, but it was a need that wouldn't get fulfilled anytime soon. Well, snow was technically water... Could she drink that? A thought for when they weren't stuck in a snowstorm. Instead, she tried to focus back on his words, and jolted forward when she realized he was moving. She could make out the shape in the distance, and hoped he was right about it being shelter. "I found a small hole earlier, but it was filling in with too much snow, and I got worried that I'd be stuck there." She jogged to catch up to him, "That looks like it's bigger though."

The meek look on Hadithi's face slowly turned to one of hope and earnest. His tail flickered as his grin grew. It was only a mutter of two words. But the meaning behind those two words meant the world to him in that moment. She was the only one he knew out here, and he didn't want to scare or upset his only form of possible company.

"A hole huh?" he looked towards her briefly as he moved towards the promising structure ahead. That may be their only hope. Or her only hope if there was only room for one. He wasn't going to kick anyone out of their own findings, even in a worse case scenario. The gusts of snow would not help survival though. No wonder she had escaped...Hopefully they'd be able to find some actual shelter.

And indeed, it was! "What a relief," he gushed out, attempting to find the opening. But wait...His ears went from alert to downcast. There wasn't a clear opening. Hadithi slowed down, mood plummeting. There were rocks that they could move aside but...would that even work? There may be more rocks behind the ones that they could currently see.

He sighed, before determination lit up his eyes once again. If it was their only hope, it was their only hope. He needed to rely on it. Without a word, he moved forward and started digging at the rubble.

Never before had Xing wished so hard that her luck wouldn't run out again. This would've been a terrible time for it to happen. Following behind Hadithi, she huddled close to try and protect at least a little bit from the wind, but she knew that it wouldn't get better until they'd found somewhere safe. She squinted at the hopefully-shelter, trying to discern what it was from where they were, but gave up with a shake of her head. They'd find out soon anyway.

When "soon" came, she whined at the sight of the blocked entryway. There was no winning here! They'd just end up frozen lions by the time the storm ends. Of all the ways she imagined herself to go out, this was a terrible way to go!

Her ears perked up when Hadithi moved forward and began digging at the snow. For a moment, she wondered if he had gone crazy from the lack of shelter... before realizing what he was doing. She felt herself go warm under her fur, embarrassed that that hadn't occurred to her in the first place. Why else would he be digging?

Actually, she should really be helping too! Jumping forward, she began clawing at the cold snow and pebbles. Her paws were freezing through almost immediately, making her cringe from the feeling. After this, she was going to go somewhere warm. Maybe a beach, or a desert... or a volcano. Stick her paws over it and revel in its warmth. That thought kept her moving, breathe coming out in puffs of smoke in front of her and freezing against her nose.

Finally, finally, the ground below her started to give. Stopping, she paused to glance through the hole, and almost cried in relief at the sight of the cave. It wasn't too big, but still more than enough for two lions! They just needed to find a way into it! "It's a cave!" She eyed the rocks and snow, then grasped a rock with her front paws and began to yank, "If we can just..." another yank, "...get..." yank, "...in...!" She huffed with each word, willing the rock out of the way, though it only moved a little bit with each jerk. It was only one of many in their way, but they were so close!

Hadithi jolted as Xing approached to help out. He was extremely grateful for the help but it also wasn't expected. Some of the females he had met in the past wouldn't even lift a paw to help out in times of need. Yet this one did and looked to know like she knew what she was doing, instead of doing it purely out of desperation. It was interesting, to say the least. And he wasn't going to complain, especially right now. And with two brains going at it, they'll have it done in no time!

The lion's digging got more fervent at the thought. Soon, they'd be out of the cold and away from this darned snow. Warmth approached. He was so focused on digging that he didn't even realize that most of the snow that he was digging out was sliding back in! His mind was so clouded by the idea of being toasty that he wasn't even looking at what his paws were doing. He was sure that he was getting somewhere though. It was so bad that he didn't even see the lioness pause to look at what was inside.

A rush of air entered his lungs as he felt the excitement tingling into his toes. Or maybe that was the ice that was nearly burning his paw pads. Who knew. Regardless, shelter was just in sight. "I guess you're my lucky charm after all!" he breathed out with a smirk. Without finding her, he would probably still be stuck looking around, cold and miserable. It was only when he found her that he was able to obtain shelter, after all. He had been in this miserable snow and general wetness for what seemed like ages and the living conditions that he had found weren't terribly great. It was a fun adventure yet it was taxing on his bones. Dry shelter was most certainly needed.

Hadithi stood still for a moment as the feeling settled before he jumped into help. He couldn't just stand there, after all! Warmth was only a few rocks away. He moved a shoulder up against the large boulder and pushed against it. It barely budged. Yet that movement was still something. He wiggled, muscles tensing up as he placed his two front paws and pushed on the rock with all his might cringing as the rock slip and slid against his paws.

It seemed to work as the sound of gravel and rubble moved underneath it. Physics wasn't a kind sort. The push had given it enough energy to roll instead of moving unevenly. "Watch out!" His paws slipped at the warning, falling flat on his face as the rock rolled forward.

Huffing and puffing, the lioness was surprised to hear him say that she was a lucky charm. She normally wasn't so lucky, misfortune tailing her like a scorned lover, so it felt nice to have a change in the norm. She was grateful when Hadithi started pushing too. Between the two of them, this rock was sure to move! Or at least, that was the hope. It was barely budging at all, but at least it was something and that was something they could work with.

With a surge of adrenaline, Xing was ecstatic when she felt the rock start to tilt beneath her paws. It was working!

... A little too well, she thought as it suddenly and unexpectedly felt it fall towards her. Yelping, she scrambled to the side as quickly as she could, accidentally scratching the pad of one of her paws against a sharper edge but she barely felt it in her panic to get away.

The boulder landed with a dull thud against the ground, throwing puffs of snow into the air. Xing cringed back a bit at the rush of cold that showered over her fur, but upon opening her eyes, she was delighted to see a big enough opening for them to crawl through. "We did it!" She hopped in place, almost ready to weep from relief, before wincing at the sting on her paw. Oh right, scratched it on the boulder. Well, it was a small wound. Easily fixable with a few licks to her paw.

With a shake of her head, she nodded towards the opening, "Let's get out of this storm."
