[ JOB LISTING ] Inventory Manager
[ DIFFICULTY LEVEL ] gaia_star gaia_star gaia_star
[ TASK ] Monitor and list all incoming and outgoing inventory.

"Okay, look," the manager seems very irritated. "We just had two trucks come in and drop off their goods. Our current help mixed the boxes up."

He hands you a clip-board. "I need you to check each box's invoice and decide where it goes. If the invoice says 'Cavalry' you just put an X here," he points to the bottom left corner of the paper, "and have those idiots stack it over there. Don't actually count Cavalry boxes in the total number of boxes on the form. If it says anything else on the box, I need you to open it and make sure the invoice matches. Fill out your report when you're done."

Roll 8 d4: These are the boxes, and there are 8 of them. For each box follow the instructions below and RP accordingly.
--If you roll doubles, it means you have two of that particular box and need to follow it's instructions twice. Same with triples, etc.

  1. This box says it holds one complete silver dinner set. Roll 1 d10 to see what's missing.

    -----If you roll a:
    -------1. Everything is there.
-------2. It is missing the gravy boat.
-------3. Two spoons are no where to be found.
-------4. One serving platter is listed, but not in the box.
-------5. Three forks have magically disappeared.
-------6. One spoon and on butter knife are missing.
    -------7. Everything is there.
    -------8. Two plates are missing.
-------9. There are NO forks in this set. WHAT?!
-------10. Everything is there, but the large serving platter has a huge gouge on it. Best make a note.

  2. This box is supposed to hold on large grandfather clock. Best check for damages. Roll 1 d6. If even it's in perfect condition. If odd the glass on the front is broken. You had better make a note.

  3. Three large tapestries from the year 1400. Roll 1 d4. If you roll a 1 or 2, one tapestry is missing. If you roll a 3, they all have water damage. If you roll a 4, everything looks good!

  4. This box is labeled "Cavalry". No need to check the contents, simply RP ordering the part-timers to stack it in the corner.

When you are done checking all 8 boxes, fill out the form below and post it in your last post.

[2 box 1s]

Richard took his assignment seriously, because the individual giving it to him clearly took it seriously. The last thing he wanted to do was to get in or cause trouble, after all. That would be entirely counterproductive. Going through all the boxes though... that couldn't be too hard, could it? Just... doing some inventory, right? Taking the clipboard he was given, Richard looked over the eight boxes shoved his way. Alright, for the first two... Leaning over, he saw that they contained dinnerware sets. ...Were they talking forks and knives, or like... eight different kinds of spoon? Was he expected to know the difference between a soup spoon and a seafood spoon? Was there a such thing as a seafood spoon? He was pretty sure that was a fork... Okay, was there a difference between a seafood fork and a salad fork? And a steak fork? Were there steak forks? Steak knives and butter knives he was alright with, but--

Okay, he needed to get to work. Pulling over the first box, Richard combed through the contents. ...It... turned out that he didn't need to know the difference between a fish fork and a soup fork. There were no forks. None whatsoever. Well... as long as he made a note on the clipboard, it was out of his hands, right? It wasn't like he'd lost the items... Though, he didn't exactly look forward to telling his taskmaster that they were missing. Ticking the contents that weren't missing on the clipboard, Richard decided to move on.

The second box was missing...Well, he wasn't really sure, at first. He poked through it, but everything seemed to be there, but... something in his intuition told him that wasn't the case. Scooting another box closer, he carefully removed each piece of the set, ticking it off as he removed it. It was at the very end, with the entire dinnerware set laid out next to him, that he realised it was two spoons. Marking that off on the clipboard, he carefully replaced each and every item in the set back into the box.

[2 box 2s]

Once the dishes were safely packed back in their boxes and the respective notes made about their missing contents, Richard turned his attention to two much larger boxes. The invoice said they were grandfather clocks... Well, weight alone said that they were there, but... the condition they were in was another matter altogether. Richard hoped the boxes were easy to open, because he did not terribly fancy lifting entire grandfather clocks in and out of boxes by himself. The really well-crafted ones could weigh a ton, after all.

The first box, upon inspection, did have some tape he could remove to open the front flap. He laid it down carefully, wary of the chance of it tipping forward out of the box should he just open the flap while it was standing up. Pulling the tape from the box, he lifted the front up and nudged some straps and safety packaging out of the way. Pleasant surprise washed over him, as the face side looked to be in immaculate condition. Well, clocks did have four sides, but here was to hoping that the other three would be just as fortunate. Very carefully, he rolled the clock to its side to check the side and back, then back to the other side to check the last side. No nicks or any damage of any kind in the housing or glass. Excellent. Richard noted that down and moved to the next box.

The second box was structured the same way as the first, and Richard made short work of the tape and straps holding the front shut after a minor heart attack nearly dropping the box trying to carefully lay it down. But he got it on the ground without any actual incident and was soon peering into the open front at the beautiful grandfather clock contained inside. A trick of the light made him think there was a nick in the wood, but a brush of it with a forefinger assuaged his fears on that. The glass was also gloriously scratch free, and the condition of the other three sides matched that of the front. Two grandfather clocks that made the shipment in excellent shape despite being mixed up and everything. A satisfied nod, Richard noting this down on the clipboard before repacking the clocks and moving on.

[4 box 3s]

Oh boy... old tapestries were probably expensive tapestries, and Richard really, really hoped he wouldn't have to handle them extensively as he evaluated them. How were tapestries even packaged? He looked down at the invoice with a sigh and put that to the side to arrange the boxes in an orderly line. The boxes weren't terribly flat, but he didn't suppose folding tapestries was advisable...

The first box told him that they were, in fact, rolled. The tubes were packaged with plenty of weatherproofing around them within the box. Extracting the tube from the packaging, Richard very carefully opened the tube and removed the first tapestry. It was very, very large, and he was very, very careful to make sure that it didn't touch the ground as he pulled it out to have a look at it. A lookover of the front, and the back, and then the fringes, told him that everything looked to be in order. Just as carefully as he opened it, he re-rolled the tapestry and replaced it into the tube, and then replaced the tube into the box it had come in. He repeated that for the other two in the box, the nudged the bigger box to the side.

The second box, however, told him right away upon opening that it wasn't going to be in the same pristine condition that the first had been in. For starters, the box had obviously gotten wet. Well, there was that weatherproofing around the tubes, right? Maybe.... Ah, no. Further inspection showed that the weatherproofing was soaked and smelled musty. Wrinkling his nose, he put that off to the side and opened the tube itself. The water damage was immediately apparent on the outermost surface of the roll, and so he didn't bother inspecting further. He put it back in its tube, the tube back in the water-damaged box with the musty packaging, and nudged it to the side with his foot, away from the first box. Further visual inspection alone told him that the other two in the box were likely similarly compromised, even without being fully opened and unrolled.

The third box looked good from the outset. No visible damage, even as Richard unrolled and inspected each one very closely. He was ready to mark off the box as a successful shipment, when he realised that he did not have all of the tapestries. All the ones he did have were in perfect condition, like the first box, but... "All the ones" meant two. There were supposed to be three... right? He glanced over to the other shipments, and then to the invoice, to confirm that, yes, there were supposed to be three tapestries in the box. There were not three tapestries in the box. There were only two tapestries in the box. Well... time to note that, he supposed. As much as the other two were in good condition, their box still went with the musty, moldy, soggy tapestries'.

Finally, he was on the fourth box, which--by this point--he was easily able to pop open and remove the packing material without so much as a second thought. That was placed carefully beside him, and he began his inspecting on the tubes themselves, with their tapestries inside. The first thing he did was verify that, yes, there were the three there that there were supposed to be. So he could at least verify that he wasn't missing any. With that out of the way, he began to open the tubes and pull out the tapestries, one-by-one. Careful inspection told him that all three were in pristine condition, just like the three in the first box. With a sigh of relief, Richard put the tapestries back in their tubes and their tubes back in the box they'd come in. That box was pushed over with the first, and Richard grabbed his clipboard to make note of the damaged and missing items.
