gaia_crown Attack Base Location - The Sahara (one of multiple bases)
Description - The most unforgiving of all the bases, and considered a horseman stronghold, the Sahara boasts unfavorable sand, winds, and horsemen that threaten to kill you on sight.
Bonuses: Sun Hunters here get a bonus. When attacking the mob, their dice modifier is -4 instead of -6. Mist Hunters roll 1d4. If even they can copycat this bonus.
Mechanic: Roll 1d6. If 1, your guarding the base goes smoothly (rp it out = success!). Otherwise, you spawn a horseman mob. It has a cumulative 30/30 HP (+10 for EACH ADDITIONAL CHARACTER IN THE RP) and does -5 auto damage to each character in that thread that attacks it. Your goal is to destroy the horsemen before it destroys you!
RARE SPAWN: If you down a horseman, roll 1d100. If higher than 90 you may spot an unusual colossus of a creature that begins to chase after you - it is massive, easily over 100 feet and shaped like a huge goliath, sand streaming out of it every step it takes. You cannot defeat it as it slowly begins to move after you. You will need to escape - when you do, collect a bonus +5 arcana and +25 currency for surviving this!

Deciding to take a much less haunted hunter job for going to a hunter base, Zere found some company with a fellow Mist and was glad to have her there, approaching the destination as he gripped his whip tightly.
Kill? His weapon asked, and Zere let out a small sigh. "Not yet--"
There was a lone Horseman that appeared as the sands shifted, and Zere glanced sidelong to Maple.
"... are you ready?"

Missions always made her nervous, outings to bases always made brought out the worst of anxiety. It was partly just normal introvert behavior that got her riled up but there was also just history that floated about in her memory about bases or something (probably, most likely... chiri had never decided on that).
So, it even surprised her that she had agreed to go with another Hunter to places slightly unknown. At first, she expected a job but then let out a small displeased sound when she realized they were, of course, going to a base. There was of course a more honest answer that she could give him but somehow she stumbled upon, ""I g-guess."

Smiling at her, Zere kept his distance, though gave her a respectful nod.
"I'll be right by your side. If anything happens... I'll be sure to be there for you. Okay?" It was a lot easier for Zere to be supportive of someone else than it was himself... but he wasn't going to admit to the other that he had very low self esteem.
If he could act happier than he felt, then he'd certainly do so for her.
KILL. His weapon chimed at him, and he tensed before darting forward, intending to get a good hit off on the Horseman before it could get close to the base.
He succeeded, watching as the Horseman hissed and retaliated, but Zere darted away with only a minor scrape to his arm.

It was the usual assurance that she heard often from other Hunters when they sensed her unease, it wasn't like it wasn't obvious or anything. Maple nodded all the same, mumbling a small thanks as she took a few steps backwards as Zere launched forward.
She summoned her weapon, biding her time for an opening to add her own strike into the mix. Once her companion was out of the way and the horsemen parried, Maple struck out with her large weapon and swiped it downward to clip its shoulder with the tip of the forked horn. It scowled and struck back, catching her in the arm.
Moving right behind Maple, Zere frowned as he followed up with a parry from her attack, moving to the side of the Horseman and catching him in the side.
The whip snapped across the Horseman's flesh, cracking audibly as he gritted his teeth together.
Yes yes YES YES YES make it BLEED- His weapon was chattering constantly, and Zere drew it taught, hoping it would silence itself soon.

Maple side stepped, directed herself out of the way of Zere's next attack but in the line of sight in case there was a chance for her to catch the horsemen when they countered once again. As they seemed very adamant in doing.
She twisted her body, swiping spear like weapon across the middle this time managing to complete a finishing move on their foe. The Mist Hunter stood there a little shocked, it was rather rare that she dealt the finishing blow (moreso that she... managed to land a hit in the first place).
Watching as the hunter dissipated, Zere moved over and gave Maple a high five.
"That was awesome! You took them down with ease!" He ignored his weapon's anger at not delivering the finishing blow, wrapping it around his wrist as he pulled it tight, ignoring its protests.
"I wasn't... sure I could pull it off, actually." He rubbed the back of his neck, his smile waning. "I don't think I'm the best hunter, really..."

If the defeat wasn't startling enough, she nearly jumped when the high five came her way. Thankfully she at least managed to respond in time to complete the action; well, her hand awkwardly went up and his hit her's.
And she blushed mightily. ""Aaaaaaaaa, th-thank y-you, I... d-don't g-get to d-do th-that t-too often." The stutter was out in full force as her hands gripped the pole of her spear tighter. "I'm... n-never.. t-too sure of m-my sk-skills.. either." How in the world she ever got to full status was beyond her. Probably riding coattails to unknowing hunters.
Thankfully for the two apparently self loathing Hunters upon the long stretch of desert, the sand was not going to be shifting today. "Th-thank you for inviting m-me along b-by th-the way..." The girl managed to squeak out, taking another glance around just in case nothing else was going to pop out at them.
"... I sleep a lot." Zere admitted, frowning as he glanced around to make sure there were no other Horsemen, beginning to walk back to base, making sure to stay by her side.
"Most of the time... I'm not happy," He admitted. "I... had family. And the family here is great! It's just... not the same, sometimes." He smiled, trying to look happy.
"But we've got each other, right?"

""I t-tend.. t-to lock myself in the l-library," she herself admitted. As it just seemed to be confession time. Though, she refrained from speaking on his second admittance. It had struck a cord and all she gave him was a pained smile before looking down.
"R-right, we have .. each other n-now.." that was enough. It seemed like enough even though, she couldn't say she had too many. But, maybe that could change now that the ease of promotion allowed her a little more free access and time. The rights to working kind of hard to reach this level; even though she missed opportunities before to create bonds.
"You like the library? Oh man, I love the library! When I was a kid I used to collect these 'Choose Your Own Adventure' books, and loved picking different scenarios. Of course, some of those led to deaths, but... it was kind of fun to see the different ways you'd die in the book. Some of them were really creative, too!"
It was obvious that Zere was excited about this, and for once... the enthusiasm about something definitely showed in his eyes.
"If you'd like, I can... show you?"

There had been a few of those similar books back when her life hadn't been so tragic, they had always been a great escape and so hearing how Zere enjoyed them only found a more earnest smile on her face.
"I w-would really like th-that, hopefully s-some of th-them survived." There had been a few tucked away for unknown reasons - most of the library of the library was for more serious research. Though it had a handful of good novelty reads, had to keep Hunters entertained afterall during their off hours.
Nodding, Zere found the vehicle they'd traveled in and opened the door for her, then went around to the driver's side to climb in and buckle himself up.
"If they don't have any there, I know I have some in my personal collection that you can read. If you'd like, that is! We can just sit in my room and not bug each other, and have a reading party."
Man, this sounded awesome.
He was all for hanging out with someone, and he'd already met Pedro -- and now Maple? Honestly... things were looking up way more than they had before.
For once, Zere actually had hope for the future, and maybe, just maybe, with the sudden friends he'd found... he wouldn't be so lonely, or so depressed anymore.
