Ruth Browning, Death Hunter, had settled into a routine. She liked those. Routines meant things that were predictable and dependable. Even if they were also, she would admit, something super ******** boring. But she liked them all the same. And in a couple of months from now, Ruth knew where she would be (barring any stupid Horseman plots and or emergencies). That place happened to be Allen's shop.
Yes, she'd come to enjoy going to see those stupid minipets, watching those blank, dull eyes suddenly become less dull whenever they get brought out to be trained, it had proven to be unexpectedly endearing. Even to a cynical, nihilist like Ruth. She knew it was all futile. That they would eventually dissipate into FEAR but the floresce's were just so cute.
She'd never changed her naming convention. Somehow it also made it infinitely easier for her to realize just how long she'd been doing this. Upon being presented with Fish 234, Ruth thanked Allen for his time and attention before excusing herself to go and train her minipet for the upcoming tournament. And there was always a tournament that she would prefer to win (because nobody liked to lose) but sometimes the fates just conspired against her.
And it would seem that way when almost all the training equipment were unavailable for use. But Ruth was a Death Hunter and she had to be resourceful. In this instance, she found a substitute for the jump rope when she spotted a hose lying about. Unfortunately when she gripped said hose, it turned out to be a snake in disguise. Startled by the hissing, Fish 234 flailed about against Ruth so much that it accidentally knocked her down into a pit of snakes.
