▐▐ [ THE TRAINING COURSE ]

  • All Moon hunters must practice protecting the stupid and pretty incompetent.

  • You collect defence points through running this course, this is what dictates your score out of ten and ultimately your pay bonus for completing the run.

  • Your princess can be anyone, existing hunter in this side of the meta or a stranger.

▐▐ [ PART 1 ]

Type of Golem

The first thing you need to do is collect your golem, princess golems are golems engineered to resemble the likeness of an existing hunter. Appearance however is where the similarity ends. These golems are dressed in all manner of wild and wonderful princess outfits, ranging from skimpy gauzy numbers to huge elaborate ball gowns. Whatever you can imagine! The lab techs are very bored people. Though they sound like their original self their personality is where the golems deviate most sharply from normal humans, capable only of the most rudimentary thought, coming across as very dense indeed, without a strong sense of self preservation.

  • Roll 1d6, this determines the nature of your chosen golem and what sort of impact this will have on your defence.

  • Fiesty▐▐ (1 defence points +2 bonus HP in stage 3)

A feisty golem is one which is surprisingly hostile, up for arguments and being quite snarky with their defenders. They are difficult to keep behind defensive lines and often overestimate their ability to take on shadowlings on their own.

  • Obedient▐▐ (3 defence points)

An obedient golem is one which follows orders without too much trouble, when you tell it to stay, it stays, when you tell it to go, it goes. Often a little morose.

  • Wild▐▐ (2 defence points -1 HP in stage 3)

A wild golem is prone to running off when their tender isn’t looking at them, but for the most part stays in one spot and is fairly controllable.

  • Malfunctioning▐▐ (0 defence points but add +5 to this golem’s HP in stage 3)

The malfunctioning golem is one where their personality has malfunctioned in a concerning way, sometimes speaking entirely in another language, sometimes acting more like an action hero than a princess. In any case it is unpredictable and prone to getting hurt.

  • Hyperactive▐▐ (1 defence points)

A hyperactive golem tends to run off and get itself hurt, climbs up trees and generally is a handful to handle.

  • Sluggish▐▐ (2 defence points)

A sluggish golem is either very sleepy or damaged in a way which forces it to slur its words and move at half of normal speed.

▐▐ [ PART 2 ]

Building fortifications

  • Randomise a number from 1-35

You must build fortifications around your princess making sure they are kept safe from the coming attack of shadowlings. You are able to use whatever you like to make this, though the selection of materials varies depending on who set them out.

  • If you roll 1-10 – All that is available is old cardboard boxes and other flimsy junk, the barrier is terrible and slumps hopelessly
    (1 defence point)
  • If you roll 11-20 – A little better but not perfect there are beams of wood and some plywood boards, even a few nails are handy to build a secure perimeter.
    (2 defence points)
  • If you roll 21-23 – Some weird steel bars and stuff are here, they are difficult to move, but can be used
(3 defence points and a 5 HP bonus in stage 3)
  • If you roll 24-35 - Score! There are actual bricks here! Lets see what you can do!
    (4 defence points)

▐▐ [ PART 3 ]

The Defence

  • Randomise a number from 1-30 for the damage sustained.

Your golem has 30HP plus or minus the bonuses from the first round. Your roll is how much damage your golem takes, compare what is left to the below list.

  • 0HP or less
How did you even manage this? Your golem is destroyed Your instructor is so impressed with your ineptitude they give you a bonus (though expect a Life invoice in the mail).
    (3 points)
  • 1-10
The princess is a complete mess, ripped up with a torn dress. She/he is not fit to be seen by his/her subjects
    (1 points)
  • 11-20
Pretty rough around the edges really, not a good showing overall.
    (2 points)
  • 21-30
Looking good! Just a few frayed edges and a bit of hair out of place, nothing a comb can't fix
    (3 points)
  • 30+ Impeccable. Does your princess even look BETTER than when you got them??
(You get 5 points for doing a fantastic defending job! (please note you can’t claim over 10 points total)

In the last stretch, you need to defend your princess against an assault of shadowlings, your efficiency in doing this will be dictated by how well you fortified your area.

SUM UP THE POINTS /10, that's their pay bonus (Which they can turn in for "currency")

Zana was, admittedly, not looking forward to this.

Not that she was ever looking forward to much of anything, really.

She kept her scimitar close to her chest, glancing at the golem she had to protect warily. She knew she had to learn how to protect even the most touchy of allies. That was her job. She was part of the Moon Division. She protected, defended, and brought people back to health. She was supposed to make the rest of the Hunters live longer.

This golem seemed ... strange, at best, though. It was sparking. It looked like it was jumping a bit. Its steps seemed abnormal. This seemed like a poor mockery of another Hunter, at best. She was honestly not entirely sure who this was even supposed to be. Was it a friend? An ally? Some kind of monster? It didn't seem sure either, considering the weird words that kept coming out of her princess's mouth. Was that even English?

She pulled at her coat collar uncomfortably.

Hopefully the golem wouldn't end up attacking her instead.

If she got some fortifications up around the golem, maybe she could put some distance between it and the upcoming enemies and perhaps also between her and it.

Zana looked around for something that might have been a useful building material.

The material she came across wasn't necessarily that great, but it was, at the very least, not terrible. She could work with plywood and nails, all she needed was a hammer. Or at the very least, something better than her likely-to-be-grumpy weapon to beat the nails in with.

Another piece of plywood would do in a pinch.

She set to work, creating something of a flimsy fortress around her sparking golem. Once it was done, she admittedly let out a sigh of relief.

At least this also put distance between her and it.

Perhaps Zana should have expected a flimsy fortress wouldn't last very long, though.

The onslaught was intense, and there was only so much the trainee Moon hunter could beat away with her weapon. She watched in dismay as the forces broke into her fortress, jumping at her screeching, sparking, stomping princess and tearing at it. The princess dress was in tatters by the time they were done, though the golem for their part seemed surprisingly okay.

Or, well, okay so far as golems went. Considering how intense the attack was, she was surprised that her golem wasn't actually worse off.

She let out a sigh of relief, at that. At least she wouldn't have to deal with the Life Techs, today.

"How dare you!" shouted her golem, as Zana rolled her eyes and dissembled what was left of the fortress so she could get at it. "I can protect myselffff-"

Zana tilted her head as the golem tilted to the side. Well, alright then...

Golem HP: 35 - 25 = 10
Defence Points: 3/10
