Cider had the desire to talk to someone. Someone she didn’t know. This was a new feeling, and honestly, she wasn’t quite sure she liked it. On one hand, maybe it meant she was growing up or something…leaving her childish fears of talking to people behind and was ready to finally move outside of her comfort zone…but on the other hand…all of that sounded terribly scary, and she was quite sure that wasn’t what she wanted to do, no matter what her Mother had said.
Regardless, after quietly following this freshling around, finally, finally, the hybrid found a chance to go over and say hello.
Though, at first she just stared at the girl.
Parts of her…parts of her were floating. That was so…so cool.
“U-um…hi! I’m Cider…you…you have really pretty hair! And I like…I like your tail!”
There! That was friendly, and didn’t make her seem as though she was…strange or anything. But…she hadn’t seen anyone like this before, and it was natural to be curious…right? “ Of course it was…but…maybe this was someone to ask her mom about…because this was something new! Something exciting.

Caela was kind of just hanging around, letting the world pass her by and playing with Naggy, her snake plushie. Lots of the time, she was content to just watch the world and its people pass her by. However, if she didn’t talk to anyone for too long, she would start getting homesick. Her parents had stressed that going to Below would allow her to learn new things that she wouldn’t be able to in Above, but she missed home. Below was… very different. At that moment, however, she realized that someone was talking to her. “Hm? Oh, hi!” she said back, waving a floating claw at the blonde Freshling. “You like my tail? Lots of people here do. But thank you!” To punctuate the statement, she gave her tail a waggle, and the floating bits bobbed with it. “It’s nothing too special. All Chomps have floaty bits on their tails.” She began to wonder what Cider “was,” so to speak; she had never really seen a hybrid up close and personal before. Nonetheless, she put that aside for the time being, because there was an important piece she’d forgotten. “Oh yeah, I’m Caela. Nice to meet you.”

Chomps...what was a Chomp? Instantly, Cider was even more excited to talk to this new girl and get to know her and figure out just what she was...but...but even figuring that out didn’t really matter...if they could become friends that would be very, very nice. “Caela? That’s a nice name too!”
Green eyes were fixated on the floating claws and for a moment, Cider wasn’t quite sure what to think of this...this ‘Chomp’ girl. Was she some kind of mutant? The freshling had the vaguest notion of what mutants were, those people who had different traits, like smaller wings or more than two eyes...or less than two! But...that was still neat! It made them unique...and unique was a pretty cool thing.
“So...so you’re a...a Chomp? I’ve never met someone like you before. You...I didn’t know there were people who had...floating bits...does it hurt? Or does it just...float?”
How easy it was to talk to this girl, it was nice! She didn’t really feel...that shy at all. Though, maybe a little shy...just not as shy as normal.

For the sake of showing off a little, Caela waggled her floating claws. "Nope, doesn't hurt at all, unless someone tries to run off with them. Then they just kinda go dead, and we grow new ones." She arched an eyebrow, and something dark shifted into her expression. "You're not gonna try and run off with my floaties, are you? Some people have already tried that. I mean, they didn't get very far before they got yelled at, but it's kind of uncomfortable." Then, as quickly as the darkness shifted in, it was gone. "Anyway, um... can I ask what you are? You look like... well... a mix. Geist, and uhh... Imp?" Caela scratched her head. Sometimes she couldn't keep the Nightmare races straight, especially since Chomps and Shades had been all she had to worry about until recently.

Cider blinked. “People have…run off with them? But…that’s really, really rude!” But the idea of someone running off with her own fingers made Cider clench them close in her fist and bury them in her skirt. She blinked at the question about what she was and nodded slowly. “Um…my one mommy is a Geist, and the other is a hybrid like me, so I know I’m part Geist, yeah! But…maybe I’m part imp! I’m not really sure…I just know that I’m me, so that’s…that’s all I really know.”
It hadn’t been something she had really thought about. She was Cider…and that was what mattered. “There’s lots of people who are like me, hybrids, I mean. It’s something that you see a lot in the Academy!” Was she talking too much? Sometimes…on subjects that she really believed in…well, that was the only instance where she thought that she talked too much…but…
Who could tell, really.
“I think…it doesn’t matter what race you are, or what races…it just matters that you’re you? You…you know?”

"Not all the way," Caela said. "But some people can't keep their hands to themselves. It's kinda sad." When Cider discussed her ancestry, she maintained a steady eye contact and nodded. "I was wondering about that. There's a lot of people here for who it's kind of hard to tell what they are." The hybrid's last statement brought a small smile to her face. "That's a nice way to think about it," she said. "Where I come from, it does kind of matter what you are. We Chomps help people called Shades. They have mouths on their tails and they're kind of scaredy cats, but that's because people tend to be mean to them a lot. When Shades see someone who isn't one of them or us, they freak out a bit. But..." She tapped her chin thoughtfully. "Just being yourself sounds very nice. I wonder what would happen if more people thought that way."

“Woah!” People with mouths on their tails? Cider would love to meet one of them…honestly…she would love to meet anyone…it was kind of disconcerting…sometimes she just wanted to be left alone forever, and other times she wanted to be out in the world meeting people and learning about the different races…
Maybe she could end up writing something about that? Maybe her writing could be…about…
She shook her head, trying to clear her thoughts and smiled again at Caela. Do you know many uh…Shades? Because I think I wanna meet everyone and just…and just be friends! Do you think they’d wanna be friends with me? Do you wanna be friends with me? I would really like that, and I promise not to pull on your fingers or anything, I don’t want to hurt you, or anyone for that matter.”
Cider nodded vigorously and bit her lower lip, grinning slightly. “I think it’s a good way to think about life…if you’re yourself…then why should others care? They’re themselves…and you don’t care…I mean…people do care…and that’s the issue.” It was the issue, but there wasn't much that one little freshling hybrid and one freshling Chomp could do about it, but...every little bit helped.

Caela couldn't help but smile broadly when she saw how excited Cider got about the Shades. Shades certainly must sound exotic to people who didn't live around them every day. "I know a few, but I don't think they're here at the Academy," Caela said, before giggling. "Sure! Why not be friends? I think you could even be friends with a Shade if you tried really hard. Like I said, they're kind of scaredy cats, so they might be freaked out by you at first. Don't take that personally, though. It's not you, it's them." When the topic shifted to the topic of being oneself, Caela tapped her cheek in thought. "Yeah, that's true. I think it would be hard to make people not care, but maybe if you ask people to really think about it, they'll notice what they're doing and be more aware of it. I wonder, though..." She felt an odd mix of pessimism and optimism about such a concept; it seemed so nice, and there might be more people who were more accepting than she thought. Still, she also thought people were rather set in their ways.

“Well…if they ever come to the Academy, or if you find one that would want to be friends, send them my way okay!” Cider couldn’t imagine anyone being scared of her, the idea seemed kind of silly to be honest, but she wasn’t someone who judged that sort of thing. Or at least, she didn’t want to be. She was super shy too, so it made sense.
“If you want, maybe you and me can hang out sometime again? I really liked talking to you, and I wanna do it some more later, what house are you in? I’m in Arkham, so you can find me easier, if you want to!”
She really hoped that this Chomp would find her and they could be friends for real. Maybe…maybe she could even write a story about the two of them! That would be cool, and such a great way to really make a friendship and tackle what she wanted to do with her life on top of that!
“So…so, I should go now, I have some homework to get done, but we can meet again, right? We can meet again and hang out again, at least if you want to, if you don’t, that’s really okay too!” She would be sad, but she would understand. Mostly understand, at least.

"Okay, I will!" Caela nodded to punctuate her agreement, though she was actually unsure of how willing a Shade would be to hang out with a hybrid. "And I'd be happy to hang out with you again. I'm in Arkham too, so it should be easy for us to find each other again." She looked off to the side for a moment before adding, "Homework, right, that thing, um... I can't remember if I did mine. Guess I should go check, huh?" She gave a short chuckle and took a few steps away. "Well, see you around. Don't be a stranger!"
