Laboratory Technician// Confidential Work

Quote:
[ JOB LISTING ] Laboratory Technician
[ DIFFICULTY LEVEL ] gaia_star gaia_star gaia_star
[ TASK ]

Isabelle has entrusted you with a new security clearance, allowing you to do work in the more secretive Experimental arm of the labs. Your lab specimens today are hidden inside of a room with no windows and no door you have access to. With you is a lab station with several substances, a computer with extensive readouts, and a file on your specimen. The room is oddly soundproof to all things.

Roll 2d20. You must combine substances into a mixture that causes harm . You must successfully craft and administer this concoction to succeed. After creating the mixture, you slide the syringe into a slot and simply wait to see the results.

You may attempt this 3 times per day.

You must sign an NDA to work in this branch, a non-disclosure agreement that binds you from talking too freely about the work done due to the cutting edge technology, but you are welcome to chat freely with other techs. This means you may write with a friend if you like. Feel free to explore any moral implications with these tests.

Match each individual dice to the below. You may choose what sort of "animal" is within the room from the following list: chicken, chimpanzee, dog, guinea pig, horse, mouse.

Mixtures:
• 1-4: The solution is viscous, vibrant red, and reeks of metal.
• 5-8: The mixture is runny, dim green, and smells of a boggy swamp.
• 9-12: The mixture does not come together. Fail, try again.
• 13-16: The acidic liquid is translucent blue, and cloudy. It has no odor.
• 17-20: The substance is entirely black, as if a hole was there rather than matter. It smells of sulfur.

Effects:
• 1-4: The target's readings go haywire for a moment, but they soon recover. Fail, try again.
• 5-8: The vital signs slow until they remain low enough to be considered an induced coma. Success.
• 9-12: The readings are unclear, suddenly distorting as if affected by a magnetic field. Success.
• 13-16: While the room is sound proof, you can still hear echoes of nightmarish screams. Success. Please quote Its Me Debz or Nothing Yet for a reward.
• 17-20: The specimen has broken loose from the room. Please evacuate and consider this a success.

After your day has concluded, please fill out the following form describing your experience here at Bates Diagnostics. Your happiness is important to us. (Answers may be brief.)

Sneaking in uncover was something Andrew had gotten good at. He had a certain ability to play dumb. It didn't work on everyone, but that was fine. that's what fighting was for.

Not that Andrew wanted to fight in a hi occupancy horseman society.

But what was annoying was that he got assigned to go with someone. (It seemed they avoided undercover duty and since he was a full hunter, his job was to watch the lower level one.)

So he silently herded Sheldon into the lab with him after getting their paperwork filled out.

"Come on time for work."

No, of course Sheldon did not make an effort into sneaking into the building like someone else. But the manner in which he had arrived seemed to not raise any suspicion at his presence at all. It was all how one carried themselves, even if they were borderline slob like himself. Just act like he belonged there, always had. (Even though he really didn't want to be there. Jobs were the worst, at least this was a lab).

And perhaps bribe the security guard with a cigarette - oh how they always wanted to go on a smoke break, even in such a facility such as one that conducted experiments with volatile chemicals. (Which meant, he realized, he would not get to smoke while working).

He also didn't like the idea of having to work with someone, let alone get herded by them. Sheldon made a face at Andrew for touching him (but could be a little glad he wasn't certain people as it was). When they got to the paperwork portion, he shook his arm off from the grip and silently filled everything out - complete with really illegible surname.

name: Sheldon
journal: A link!
division: Life (Intermediate)
arcana: Magician
description: Tall, lanky and covered in so many layers of clothing its hard to actually judge his physique. His short unkept hair is dyed green and his amber eyes usually look bored, annoyed and ready to shut to sleep. That heap in a corner not moving might actually be him passed out...
Sheldon enjoys smoking, avoiding certain people and working in the pod room since its always quiet there.

Andrew only touched when had too. If Sheldon just walked, he wasn't prodded as much.

"Alright so the idea is to mix a few chemicals together and I guess see if they harm the creature?" Andrew made a face. the horsemen were crazy. Andrew didn't really approve of injecting things into poor unsuspecting animals. (If they did something stupid he would laugh. But not like this.)

"They really are mean. And people say I'm mean." he didn't cage things like this. really if the other hunters thought he was bad, they never had to deal with the real monsters.

Andrew set about following the protocol for now.

It was thankful then that the hand had lingered for so often before Sheldon really felt annoyed. Even if it would have barely felt like anything because of how many shirts he probably had on, which probably wasn't regulation working down in the labs. But as they didn't really say no into hiring two unlikely candidates for this position they probably didn't care about the dress code.

Just wanted the work done. Which apparently he was the only one who didn't seem to mind. Even before Andrew began to explain the procedure, his hands were busy lightly touching each of the viles they were able to work with; turning them just so so he was able to get the proper name of them. "Before the government stepped in, companies were able to do as they pleased with animal testing." At least, he spoke! "It was the best means of finding out how things reacted, by testing them on lesser beings so they would not harm those on top." He sighed, almost wistfully, as if sorry for a time now lost.

"Oh well, if you say so." so they did this before? Humans? well, that didn't surprise him too much. Deus was weird too after all.

"Makes sense to test things on smaller things. Easier to replace mice I guess."

Of course his animal was not a rat. It was a dog. He frowned at the whining animal and then carefully injected it.

That's when things got weird. It got growly and then wild, breaking loose from it's cage. Andrew backed up. "s**t."

Where they aiming to make this happen? The dog barked and slammed itself into the walls, as if trying to removes the substance.

Andrew debated how to herd it back and grabbed a chair.

"It's all relative anyways," he drawled on. That was how he interpreted it anyways and how he separated his mindset from those that would be deemed psychopaths by most of society; when he was younger his treatment of animals always had a purpose, never just without warrant or to have fun. Like now.

The concoction he had created had been a delightful result, such a blackness to the mixture. The reaction had been less so making the Life Hunter's eye twitch. Especially as someone like Andrew, who had had ethic issues not two minutes ago had managed to pass. Now he was going to have to try it again. More work. Annoyance.

Sheldon reached out for a new combination for a new solution and created one of deep red and metals.
It was satisfying to find something new in the beaker, something different to try with on the chimpanzee that would get a second dose of whatever he cooked up. The metallic smell could create something interesting.

He had to wonder if that viscous smell had an affect on how the distortion had been created or if it was a combination of what he had tried before with this of something new. A mental note was made of the ingredients. "That was delightful."

"Delightful? You'd make a good horseman." he whispered the last bit. "Then again you are life, right?"

Maybe that's why he got sent along on this particular assignment. Lifers were well known for being a bit crazy. Andrew hadn't noticed the failure. His own passing was mostly luck along with following directions.

He wrangled the dog back into the cage.

Then he finished more paperwork. ugh.

Name & Job: Jason Lab tech

Did you enjoy your work today? It was a bit wild, the dog got out of the cage.

Would you like to be considered for permanent employment in this branch? No thanks.

Did you see or hear anything unusual during this test?
Nope, just a wild dog.

Sheldon was unsure if he were to take that as a compliment or at least act upon it given their current situation. They were pretending to be them after all but also find ways to fight them. Thankfully no one else seemed to be interested in their conversation, so he just simply replied with a, "yes." It was hard to discern what division his companions possibly could be; perhaps one of the more action oriented ones such as Sun or Moon.

Clearly not his, or this fellow would be familiar. Or Death, he had atrocious writing and barely seemed to write anything in the survey. Mist was also a possibility. Oh great, he just split the field in half. Good job, that really narrowed it down. Rolling his eyes at his own self, he just made to reply to what was needed.

Name & Job: Sheldon [the surname was hard to make out]- Laboratory Technician

Did you enjoy your work today? It was satisfactory work, enjoyable in the sense of being able to revel in the field that I am most comfortable in.

Would you like to be considered for permanent employment in this branch? If the opportunity arises I doubt I would be in the position to say no, please do keep my contact information.

Did you see or hear anything unusual during this test? Nothing that seems out of the ordinary, though I did keep to my own work as well as that of my .... companion.

Do you trust Bates Diagnostics? I don't feel that there is any reason not to.
