Hunter was standing there, on the training field in all his five-foot three glory, a stocky man wearing a shirt that just said ALPHA ALPHA ALPHA on the front and back of the shirt. It was impossible to miss the whole spectacle, as on one end, someone, or someones, had pitched what looked like some sort of pen, filled to the brim with collared apex pets. Most of them were quite massive, at least eight feet tall, vicious and snapping angrily at each other. They were all bad tempered.
"THESE MOUNTS AREN'T GOING TO JOUST THEMSELVES," Hunter was yelling with what he thought was his indoor voice. "SEIZE THE MOMENT. YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE."
If possible, he was even louder without his megaphone.

gaia_crown[ HOW TO JOUST ]
gaia_star Step 1: Post here however you want to RP, and try rolling for your apex mount. They're all horribly aggressive, so what you get is what you get, you really don't want to risk grabbing the reins a second time. These are just borrowed for jousting ALL PROPERLY BELONGS TO HUNTER DO NOT STEAL. Yes,when you grab a mount he tells you what they are for you.
Roll 1d10, Use the spoiler to match up. If you're curious about SIZES (IC EFFECTS DO NOT WORK ON DEUS), go HERE to check out the size of your mount.
gaia_star[ ROLLING A 8 ]"YOU SHOULD NAME HIM BOB": [ Jousting Damage ]: 8 [ Jousting Speed ]: 8 [ Jousting Durability ]: 8 AGGRESSION: 8
gaia_star[ ROLLING A 9 ]"IT'S INVINCIBLE, THAT'S WHY YOU CAN'T SEE IT": [ Jousting Damage ]: 7 [ Jousting Speed ]: 7 [ Jousting Durability ]: 1 AGGRESSION: 2
gaia_star[ ROLLING A 10 ]"BETTER YOU THAN ME I GUESS": [ Jousting Damage ]: 10 [ Jousting Speed ]: 5 [ Jousting Durability ]: 5 AGGRESSION: 10
gaia_star Step 2: You need to tame this mount! Of course they are all aggressive. Your mount WILL NOT joust for you until you tame it. You need 10 tame points to tame it. Feel free to help others tame their mounts too by rolling for others as well and quoting them as well as interacting with other players during this step as this is primarily an RP.
Yes, if you hit 0 HP (of your character) during this exercise YOU PASS OUT, and you'll have to start from the first stage.
Roll 1d10. Match up the result! Do this until you hit +10 tame points!
1: Your mount runs up and takes HUGE bite of your arm until you finally relinquish it. Thank god for Fear shields! -5 HP, +5 tame points.
2: Your mount shrieks loudly and tries to trample you. -HALF YOUR HP. +5 tame points.
3: Your mount stares at you in the eye:
- Yell at it: It shrieks at you back but doesn't take any action. + 5 tame points - Don't tell at it/ talk to it nicely: It feels like that's a sign of weakness and takes a good bite of your hair. It takes a while for you to make it let go. -5 HP + 5 tame points.
4. Your mount suddenly tries to run away, yanking you on the leash. -5 HP, +5 tame points
5. Your mount seems surprisingly friendly. It makes a soft cooing noise.
- Pet it: You try to pet it. It immediately opens its mount and somehow bites down on your entire arm. Again, your Fear Shield prevents you from taking physical damage, but your weapon is not happy. - HALF YOUR HP + 0 tame points
- Don't pet it: Yeah, don't pet a wild animal! It is satisfied you gave it space and continues cooing/purring loudly. +10 tame points
6. Hunter (the Sun lead) comes over to inspect your mount. He says some words of encouragement to it, and it is suddenly well behaved. +10 tame points
7. Your mount is OUT OF CONTROL. It goes berserk and tries to bite a random person! -10 HP to the person posting above you, just quote them for the damage! +0 tame points
8. Your mount suddenly sits on the ground and refuses to move, like a stubborn dog. Nothing you do will fix this, not without another hand. (OOC: You need to FLAG ANOTHER PLAYER to help you pull this mount forward. Quote them. If there's nobody to flag/ no players around/ quote zoobey! You don't need to wait for their rp reaction, just continue on after you've quoted, though it is encouraged they quote you back!) +10 tame points once flagged
9. Your mount wanders off entirely! You can't find it at all! (Go back to the first stage, you have to reroll your mount...)
10. Your mount is attracted to your clothing. It eats it! (-1 clothing article from your clothing inventory, you can pick which one). +5 tame points.
gaia_star[ Step 3: ]NOW YOU CAN FINALLY JOUST. Rp however interacting with your mount. With a little bit of courage, you finally get on the haphazard saddle! Wait - where's the lance?
"JOUSTING WEAPONS ARE FOR CHUMPS," you hear Hunter yell at you when you finally look at him questioningly. "REAL PREDATORS USE THEIR NATURAL WEAPONS."
Thankfully the assistant comes up and gives you a wooden sword, after a very judging stinkeye.
Baneful
Pick an opponent by quoting them. If you have none, you can face an NPC HUNTER. Their mount damage is always 8.
Now, roll 4d10. Your opponent rolls the same as well on their post and does the same action. Your goal is to see who got the highest joust points. The player with the lower joust points falls off their mount and loses! (The mount flies away shrieking, it hates you). If you win, the mount also flies away shrieking, it hates you.
From the 4d10, use this to sum up your joust points: First dice (of the 4d10): This is the [ DAMAGE MODIFIER ] + your mount's [ JOUSTING DAMAGE]. - EG If you roll a 6, that's [ YOUR MOUNTS JOUSTING DAMAGE ] +6.
Second dice (of the 4d10): This is the [ SPEED MODIFIER ]. Subtract your MOUNTS SPEED from the SPEED MODIFIER. You cannot go below 0. - EG If you roll a 5, that's [ YOUR MOUNTS SPEED ] - 5
Third dice (of the 4d10) is your [ DURABILITY MODIFIER ]. Subtract your MOUNT'S DURABILITY from the DURABILITY MODIFIER. You cannot go below 0. - EG If you roll a 3, that's [YOUR MOUNTS DURABILITY -3
LAST dice (of the 4d10) is your [ AGGRESSION THRESHOLD ]. Take a look at your mount's AGGRESSION mater. If your dice roll is HIGHER than your mount's aggression meter, you are safe. If it is LOWER, you automatically fall off and lose. If both players fall off and lose, you are BOTH LOSERS. CONGRATS.
ADD ALL THE RESULTS. HIGHEST RESULT WINS (assuming you don't fall off).
EXAMPLE TALLY
EXAMPLE: I roll 4d10 and get 1, 4, 5 6. - My mounts damage is 2, so I add the [ DAMAGE MODIFIER ] I rolled of 1, from my dice roll, to get 3. - My mount's speed is 5, so I subtract the [ SPEED MODIFIER ] I rolled of 4, to get 1 - My mount's durability is 10, so I subtract the [ DURABILITY MODIFIER ] I rolled of 5 to get 5. - My mount's aggression is 4, and I rolled 6 [ AGGRESSION THRESHOLD] , so I am safe!
TOTAL DAMAGE DONE: 3+ 1+5 = 9 MOUNT DAMAGE
gaia_star[ Step 4: ] WINNERS POST YOUR REDEEM + NAME OF THE PET WON (APEX FLAME DRAGON) HERE. This goes for everyone, including people who previously quoted Zoobey!
LOSERS, well I mean, not everyone can win right?
gaia_star All rpers (win or lose) who complete a successful joust get + 2 arcana (wild card) + 10 currency. You can joust as many times as you'd like. If you have a jousting buddy, you can turn this into a [JOUST PRP].
Andrew didn't like animals. He didn't like touching or messing with things. But trying to tame monsters? A slightly different story.
Andrew had been in Sun far to long to let his aversion to touch stop him from trying to get on a monster an make it do his bidding. He had fought bigger ok.
These were some damn aggressive ones though.
Andrew decided not to try for the roaring dragon, and instead chose something that looked fast and fairly manageable. (Look he didn't want to have to beat his mount into submission.)
He rounded on the weird furry creature and grabbed the reins.
Hunter was saying something about that one being the one for him. But Andrew was pretty sure that he might be able to actually hold this one down.

Well Andrew was going to try and tame it. He was but it escaped his grip and then took off without him.

Let's try this again. Andrew was going for an entirely different mount when he ran smack into the invincible one. "ow." Well he guessed he was taking this one now. ok then.
His mount suddenly tried to run and Andrew dug his heels in as he held on to the reins. "Ow."
He was pretty sure that tweaked his shoulder.

Now that his mount was tamed, Andrew was ready to go. "Alright, who wants to shove each other off our mounts?" because shoving other people off their mounts sounded fun.

“This is, flat out, the coolest thing I have ever seen and there is no way I’m not doing this!” Maybe it was the support of Sun team still ringing in his ears – both of their encouragement – but Ollie couldn’t help but throw himself fully into the task of picking out a beast. He grinned at Hunter as he hopped in to survey the mass of monsters that were available for him, walking the lot (or, well, trotting back and forth) until he landed in front of one that was, once again, the biggest and scariest on the field.
At the very least, Ollie had guts. Sense, maybe less so. He grinned as he pulled it out, preparing to get it tamed.

Riley grabbed the first set of reins she could see, and started tugging.
Nothing happened.
She turned to see what she'd acquired, and realized that a turtle was possibly the worst choice for a tournament that she could have ever managed.. but they would not allow her to take it back.
She would have to try with this turtle, first.
"Lovely."

Despite being a slow, fairly tame looking turtle, when Riley tried to tame it enough to ride it, it BIT her.
It BIT HER.
"You'd be better off as one of my experiments.." She grumbled at it, rubbing her sore arm.

She stood face to face with her turtle, and glared at it straight in the eye.
"Neither of us want to be in this situation." She informs it. "You're a terrible choice for a mount, and I am not a patient instructor. So let's save ourselves the trouble and just get things MOVING. QUICKLY."
Her screech did not phase it. In fact, it did not move. So she let out a gutteral yell, and just tried to mount it anyway.

He’d barely made it a foot out toward the field when the beast jerked on its leash, just about pulling Ollie off his feet. He yelped, despite himself, and immediately looked embarrassed for it – half-turning in place to glare at the monster. At the very least, it seemed to respect the look in his eyes, the heated flash of frustration. Not that it made his arm ache any less from that little pull.

The beast really was a whole lot bigger than Ollie. He pulled and tugged and scowled at it and the purple creature resisted and resisted and resisted. Finally, it got tired of his feeble little tugs and, with a roar, lunged forward instead of pulling back. It trampled right over him, huge claws tearing rents in his shield as Ollie cried out. He threw both hands over his face to protect it from beating wings, from the wind.
In the end, though, it quieted to survey him through lidded eyes, expression wary. But he’d survived the onslaught, and maybe that was why now it’d allow him to mount it.

Once he was on its back, Ollie couldn’t help but laugh – a wild, joyful kind of laugh, his eyes raking over the rest of the field in search of someone to attack. He raised one hand up, and he looked huge up on a mount that he could barely control. Really, his chances of doing well in an actual joust were very low, but that wasn’t the point.
The point was that he looked like an unequivocal badass.
“Let’s do this, then! Who’s ready?!”
OOC: Totally down to joust, but I'm not sure where other people stand / if people are paired up. Please quote me if you want to give this a try!
