Quote: gaia_crown Attack Base Location - The Sahara (one of multiple bases) Description - The most unforgiving of all the bases, and considered a horseman stronghold, the Sahara boasts unfavorable sand, winds, and horsemen that threaten to kill you on sight. Bonuses: Sun Hunters here get a bonus. When attacking the mob, their dice modifier is -4 instead of -6. Mist Hunters roll 1d4. If even they can copycat this bonus. Mechanic: Roll 1d6. If 1, your guarding the base goes smoothly (rp it out = success!). Otherwise, you spawn a horseman mob. It has a cumulative 30/30 HP (+10 for EACH ADDITIONAL CHARACTER IN THE RP) and does -5 auto damage to each character in that thread that attacks it. Your goal is to destroy the horsemen before it destroys you! RARE SPAWN: If you down a horseman, roll 1d100. If higher than 90 you may spot an unusual colossus of a creature that begins to chase after you - it is massive, easily over 100 feet and shaped like a huge goliath, sand streaming out of it every step it takes. You cannot defeat it as it slowly begins to move after you. You will need to escape - when you do, collect a bonus +5 arcana and +25 currency for surviving this! gaia_star OOC/IC PRIZES: +2 arcana upon completion of 250 words or more +10 currency upon completion of 250 words or more + 1 raffle ticket upon completion (MAX 1 PER DAY PER CHARACTER) of 250 words or more + 1 ??? horseman outfit. The Sahara heat had Jude sweating buckets -- had him scowling in the heavy material of his coat, already out of his vest and tie, with the top few buttons of his shirt undone. He should have brought sunscreen. After only an hour or so out on the edges of the base, watching the barrier that protected them from any invading forces, he was already sunburned enough that his face felt tight, the fair skin at his throat turned pink as a strawberry. He might just die before the end of the day, even with the scarf wrapped up over his head, now. When it peeled away, he was going to be left with a rash of freckles beyond compare. Of course, that assumed he survived the day otherwise. On his fourth or fifth pause Jude paused, head tipped to the side, certain that he had heard something shout in the distance. And when he turned his head, he was right: a dark figure wrapped in swaths of loose fabric was already drawing their weapon. All he could make out in their face was the sudden, wicked flash of gnarly teeth. With a nervous breath inward, Jude shook his own arm loose of his coat, prepared to open fire. And he let that breath out with a shout of warning back toward the base.

While this particular desert was a bit extreme, even for Haddy, she was certainly much better equipped to handle the heat and the sun. Jude might have been dying, but the Moon just seemed a little on the uncomfortable side. Her clothing was always light and airy, her coat was thin, and her scarf draped in a way that protected the back of her neck and face. Remove the bright blue-green of her googles, and she probably could have passed for someone that belonged there, at a glance. At the shout from the other end of the base, Haddy took off running, her whip flashing into life in her right hand in a flare of bright blue. "I'm coming, Jude!" When she saw what was coming for them she let out a soft curse, and vaulted the waist high barrier in one fluid motion. Letting the horseman get too close wasn't wise, they needed to meet them head on, try to keep them away so any additional damage didn't reach the base itself. Closing in on it, she let her hand fall behind her, then flicked it forward, sending the whip snapping through the air to crack loudly against the Horseman's upper body. Which mostly seemed to piss it off, because it lunged, sickle coming in to clip Haddy's arm. HP: 35/40 DMG: 3 Pony HP: 37/40

Let Haddy take the brunt for just a moment; for his part, Jude stepped back and drew in a deep breath, dark eyes studying the horseman in their swaths of cloth in search of some kind of weakness. Famine, certainly. And there were two of them, and only one of the horseman. There would probably be some kind of ranged biteback anyway, but once Haddy engaged he took just a few quick steps back and tipped his head to aim down his arm as he fired.

The shot hit solidly, and it made Jude's eyes flash fiercely for a moment -- satisfied, pleased with himself, chin tipped up. He was fare enough away that he should have been safe and Haddy should have continued to tank. But of course it wasn't that simple of a thing, not when magic was involved. He didn't even see the insect that bit him, just felt the sharp pain against the back of his neck and reached up to smack it a way, wincing as he did. At least he hadn't missed. A bolt struck the horseman from over Haddy's left shoulder, and she chanced a quick glance back at Jude before launching into another offensive assault. He arm swung back, the whip snaking along with it, and as she flung it forward the end wrapped around the horseman's arm. A yank forward sent them briefly too their knees, but they were up again in a moment, lunging at her. She managed to dodge the first swipe of the sickle, but the second caught her hip, chipping away at her shield. HP: 50 (With correct hp this time) DMG: 6 Pony HP: 24

He hadn't exactly been jumping for joy but, for a moment, Jude had taken the time to be satisfied with his own shot. Probably, that thought had come too soon. This time, he lined up with just a faint thrill of something excited in the pit of his stomach, taking aim carefully, eased one foot forward to stabilize himself.... and he slipped in the sand. His feet went out from under him and he spilled into the dust, shot landing instead on his own foot. On the ground, he spluttered and shifted a little, trying to untangle himself from a scarf that was suddenly full of sand and caught around his face. HP: 40/50 DMG: 0 Pony HP: 24/40

It was probably for the best that Haddy was too occupied to have seen that little mishap, because for as sweet as the Moon hunter was, she would likely never let him live it down. But her hands were very much full. The horseman was on the aggressive offensive, slashing at her furiously, and she'd had to throw her arm up for protection. It meant a few painful slashes, but she'd heal. It would take a bit of doing, but after a moment she managed to get a few steps worth of distance between them. Haddy didn't hesitate, but struck immediately. It compromised her aim a little, the end of the whip snapped viciously against the horseman's chest. HP: 45 DMG: 4 Pony HP: 20

This was fine. Everything was fine, really. Jude lay sprawled on the ground for a long moment, dust in his mouth and scarf still caught around him, struggling to catch his breath. He stared at the sky, dazed and with the breath knocked out of him, foot and back both throbbing a bit, blinking tears out of his eyes -- Get up. Xiang's voice was gentle, which was a relief, but it was also demanding. So Jude blinked one or two more times, then managed to get into a sitting position. Up on his feet would take a little longer, his body still not fully cooperating, but he managed this much: raised his hand up, took aim, and fired another bolt. This one landed. On the enemy, thank god. Jude spat into the sand and struggled to his feet, arm raised to fend off an attack as he did. HP: 35/50 DMG: 4 Pony HP: 16/40

Another of Jude's bolts came over her shoulder and the horseman reeled. It gave Haddy an opening, and she was quick to take it. She flicked her wrist, and the tail of her whip snapped a deep slash down the front of the horseman's body. He wailed, enraged, and threw the chained sickle at her, striking her in the hip before he was yanking it back. HP: 40 DMG: 8 Pony HP: 8

Haddy's distraction was enough for Jude to take a moment -- to breathe out -- to carefully line up his shot -- And when it hit, it hit with enough force to drive the horseman back a step, mouth open on a sound of complaint, a breath of surprise, as they dissolved. Slowly, Jude lowered his arm, sighing out a deep gust of air himself. It was relieved, his eyes flickering to the landscape around them to make sure no one else was about to jump out of the dunes. Then he looked to Haddy. "Are you alright?" It was kind of a ridiculous question. Jude was the one covered in sand, rumpled and sloppy, with a scratch along one cheek where he'd hit his face on the way down. But she hadn't seen that part of it. HP: 30/50 DMG: 11 Pony HP: -3

Jude got in one more powerful shot, and the horseman was gone, just like that. Breathing heavily, Haddy kpt her whip out a moment longer, bright eyes scanning the horizon, before finally turning to look back at him. "Yeah, I'm alright. Just a few scratches, it's fine." Her shield was still intact, and any minor bumps and bruises would be gone in a few hours. Heading back, she finally desummoned the whip. "Are you alright?" She seemed to be taking him in from head to foot, and as she met his eyes again she'd raise a brow at him. It looked like he'd taken a tumble in the sand.

"Fine." It was sharp, maybe just a little bit cross, while Jude shook sand out of the cuff of his pants and smoothed back the sweat-soaked mess of his hair. He was definitely overdressed for the Sahara, should have put on something light before he made the trek out, and now that he was sweaty and battered and dirty it was all the worse. He shook his head at Nena, trying not to take his annoyance out on her, but easier said than done. "I'm fine. Let's go report this in, I'm sure they'd want to hear...." Before she could agree or object, Jude was already backing up away from where the horsemen had fallen, only too happy about the prospect of hauling himself inside, to safety, where it was just a bit cooler and where he could maybe find a fresh set of clothes.
