ASSESSMENT COURSE
gaia_crown [ THE DIVISION ASSESSMENT COURSE ]

- All Mist Hunters, to show their flexibility, must take part in the training course. This particular training course features tasks that highlight the strengths of other divisions.

NOTE: Please do your evaluations/Mist assessments here in THIS thread! You'll log it as a normal ORP.

    Death:
+ Research - The Truth is Out There:
Your character has been tasked with researching a supernatural event or creature of your choice. Or a human celebrity. Roll 2d4.

        + SCIENCE.
Your character has been tasked with coming up with a solution or mixture to help bolster hunter spirits. + Whack-a-Mole, Horseman Edition
Dorian, the Mist Assistant, has requested that you participate in a training exercise that involves a lot of dodging and a lot of hitting. It's basically like a giant field of whack-a-mole; see how many "enemies" you can smack down when they pop up. Roll 1d8; pass when you hit something. +1.

          5. You move quickly and manage to hit two in rapid succession.
          6. You cheat and use a flashy Fear move to hit multiple at once.
          7. You manage to hit one that has been... enhanced by a Famine and/or Life Hunter experiment. It leaves a lasting effect on you that exists for the duration of this RP (ie you're now a particular color, you're covered in glitter, you look like the opposite gender, etc.)
          8. You do something impressive that makes a passing Mist hunter stop and cheer wildly at you.

OOC

Character's name: Jude
Character's division: Mist
Character's journal link: xxx
Character's arcana Justice (group C)
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF MY CHARACTER In his mid twenties, Jude looks serious and somber and, frequently, annoyed at the world for no reason. His hair is fair and tousled, his eyes a deep brown that's surprising in a pale, slightly-freckled face. He is quiet and unassuming and frequently just struggles to stay out of trouble.

If it were up to Jude, he would have been perfectly happy taking a stack of paperwork somewhere and setting up at a quiet desk in the corner. He didn't mind the work, as a hunter; he didn't even really mind the physical aspects of it. If he'd been bothered by a little bit of hard work, he would have been tossed out as a trainee, before he had the opportunity to bond with his weapon and get promoted to Intermediate level. There was something about a routine, though, about doing the same task over and over again, that appealed to him and put him at ease.

This was not that. If anything, this was the opposite of that. As Jude looked down at the cryptic clues in his hands he grimaced just a bit and rolled his shoulders out, trying to find the focus required to figure out where it was trying to lead him, what it meant. A series of letters that meant absolutely nothing to him, he stood and scraped fingers through his hair and trudged off to look up what he could find on his cell phone.

Someone with more experience here probably would have figured out the translation code in a matter of minutes. Letters were numbers and numbers were coordinates and, after about three hours of ******** around, Jude finally managed to figure that out and find his way to the course. He was already grumbling, rolling his shoulders and adjusting the cuff of his shirt as he approached the next stage.

It wasn't that bad. Being tasked with holding a defensive line was something Jude could relax into, just a bit. He was even well equipped for it: rolling up the sleeve of his shirt and rolling his shoulders back, taking aim with the crossbow strapped to his wrist to bring hunters down before they could reach him. Only one of the many managed to get up close enough to shoulder him, and he shouldered back, roughly. By the end he was panting and a bit worn, but he surveyed his work and it was solid.

Wrestling a bear, on the other hand, was pretty much his nightmare. He hadn't been put in Sun division -- and would never request it -- for a very good reason. For a moment after the beast was released, he just stared at it. Then, with a long-suffering sigh, he stepped in to put for his best effort, which mostly meant darting in to poke and smack it and then trying to run away when he could. At least he didn't freeze up or look terrified.

Somehow, in the heart of this, Jude got a really good blow in -- kicking behind one knee hard enough that the bear grumbled and roared and lashed back. It wasn't looking great, though, and he darted a nervous look around to see if he was about to get in trouble for how hard he'd hit. But, to be fair, they had told him to do it.

He was more hesitant, this time, still worried he was going to get in trouble for hurting a bear -- which was ridiculous. The bear was giving pretty damned good himself. So he lashed out, a bit awkwardly, flushed very pink.

Starting to wear out, and so soon, Jude swiped hair back out of his face, and wished he weren't wearing quite so many layers. It was hot, and he was tired, and a shirt plus a vest plus a coat....

Well. It was too late to change now.

He didn't mean to hit that hard, really. It was less of a swing and more of a full body slam, and less of a full body slam and more of a fall into the bear. But it did the trick, and all at once he realized how ill the poor beast looked. Quickly, he stumbled back, the task successfully completed.

And here was where he'd kind of hoped to end up: settled at a desk in a corner with a stack of paperwork, more than happy to take on the task. He worked his way through it easily, jacket finally pulled off and tossed over a corner of his chair, head down and eyebrows knitted together into a deep knot in the middle of his forehead. If he'd done this task first, maybe he would have raced through it expertly. As it was, he thought he did a more than decent job.

It was with some relief, with the paperwork out of the way, that Jude slid off to go find the recovery ward -- filled with other hunters who'd been injured in the line of duty. Maybe some, he thought, had been injured in the line of fighting a bear bare-handed, but he didn't voice that thought, just quietly stood off to one side and waited for someone to assign him a task.

His flat [removed](resting b***h face) and serious edge got a critical look, and then the person in charge decided that he wasn't suited for anything front-facing, and would be better off doing something more back of house.

It meant he got put in charge of looking through first aid kits and making sure they were fully stocked, a task he didn't mind doing one bit. It meant he got dropped off with a bunch of freshly cleaned bandages that needed to be wound up and set aside for use when more injured hunters came in. It meant he was sent off with a list of medications and a list of rooms and happily served as a delivery man, dropping off the proper bottles at the proper locations. It meant, when lunch came, that he went off to find some food for those on staff with actual medical training, so that they could keep working through their break and didn't have to fight to figure out lunch.

None of it was work he minded. None of it was bad. By the end, he felt refreshed, his task completed.
