She was finally promoted after a truly stellar performance with her minipet in the division meeting and what was her first task? Clean up the library. Menial work that anyone could have done!! A point could have been made that at least it was the library and not somewhere even more useless like wherever the Sun Division held their meetings. Probably covered in blood and other uselessness; why clean it up after a storm?

At least the library was full of useful knowledge and...oh. Oh!

Boots made a quiet squelch against wet carpet that hadn't yet dried as a diminutive hunter popped her head up from over a pile of damaged books. Kithryn had one weakness that she could not seem to ever fight: cute girls. The cuter they were the more she wanted to make them like her, wanted to hug them, wanted to enjoy how pretty and lovely they were. Like art.

This particular hunter she knew rather well and had always been a bit tongue-tied around. "Nena, is that you?"

Character's name: Kithryn Sen
Character's division: Life
Character's journal link: [ x ]
Character's Arcana: Moon (Group E)
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF MY CHARACTER: Tall, cool, pale. Probably about 5'9 in bare feet with a tendency to dress in a rather modest, feminine fashion. Utterly devoted to her work in 'improving' hunters.

It was a truly devastating thing to behold. Books were everywhere; covers coming free from the bindings, pages torn, stained, damaged. How much knowledge had been lost in the flooding? How many secrets lost? It was heartbreaking. Nena had stood motionless just beyond the doors when she'd first set foot within the beloved building, shocked and overwhelmed. Now,a few days later, she had at least managed to will herself into motion. It was no less overwhelming, but with every book she picked up, and ever shelf she straightened, the tightness in her chest eased just a little bit more.

She missed the scent of the old books. The dampness and subtle hint of mold was a poor substitute...

Arms occupied by a short stack of still damp books, the petite hunter looked up at the voice calling her name. "Oh, Kith." She smiled, shuffling the books a bit to free up one of her hands so she could raise it in small wave. "Did you come to lend a hand?" A bit of help would be greatly appreciated.

Kithryn was already pulling her hair back into a twist to keep it out of her face as she stepped over a smaller pile of books destroyed beyond recognition. They would probably be dried out in bits to see what information they contained if the other hunters didn't grab them to use for kindling first. Power had been restored to most of the island but there were always those dungeon rooms. Dungeon rooms that made her toes curl in her rain boots from how nasty they were.

Pale as she was poor Kith's flushed cheeks were probably obvious as she stood in front of Nena, holding her arms out to take the pile of books the shorter woman was already holding. "Ah...yeah." Oh that was intelligent wasn't it? For reasons she didn't understand every time she came near an intelligent, pretty female her tongue went thick in her mouth and she lost all of that snappy comeback-iness that was the heart of her personal charm.

"They probably had backups." It was an abrupt statement out of nowhere that she sighed, before clarifying. "Of the books. Digitally. So they can probably get more."

The smile Nena leveled on Kith was an enigmic one, giving nothing away. Whether or not she noticed the flush of color on those pale cheeks was impossible to tell, but anyone that one the petite Death at all had to have seen how very little she seemed to miss. Hers was the division of surveillance and information, after all. "Thank you."

The books were deposited in the taller woman's arms, which freed up Nena to start picking up another small stack of her own. There was a book cart nearby that she was adding the more salvageable ones too, and a stack of woefully ruined ones on a table beside that.

At the sudden reassurance, for that's what the sounded like, Nena looked up again to consider the tall Life. "A best case scenario I'm deeply hoping for, but not one we can rely on." Some things would be replaced. Others, unfortunately, would be not.

Going over to the cart to give her brain a bit of a chance to reboot Kithryn set down the stack and began to separate her burden into piles. Some were so sodden that there was no way the pages were going to be able to be pried apart once they dried and so they went into the ruined stack. Others would at least be mostly salvageable and so they went into the keeper stack.

"Hope is good." Her voice was uncharacteristically soft for just a moment before she turned to offer her arms for another stack. She was taller and thus had a larger hollow, so to speak, in which to place the poor ruined things. Getting dirty and damp was not really her idea of a good time but perhaps she could make Nena smile.

That would be worthwhile wouldn't it?

"You should maybe ask the staff if you could bake the borderline books." If you couldn't give someone hope then you had to provide a solution. Plus "Solving Problems" was a part of her repertoire, the thing that made people like you, and despite her prickliness Kith so very much wanted to be liked. "Dry them out with the heat but not with the uneven sort from a hair dryer. And we don't really have runic hairdryers."

Nena hummed, smiling over her shoulder at Kith. "Yes, hope is good." For the most part, the petite woman was an optimistic one. Not exactly bubbly, but always in good spirits, and especially lately. Even despite the storm and the damage. The state of the library hurt her heart, but there was still so much to be grateful for.

Seeing that Kith had emptied her arms, Nena happily took advantage. The few books she'd picked up were placed in the taller woman's hands, the last of which just a bit slower as she let Kith's idea sink in. "You know, I might. I'm sure the ovens will be repaired quickly enough." Pale eyes flicked briefly towards the doors, as if she could see the cafeteria from there, but she'd look back up at Kith a second later, smiling impishly. "Not anymore, no. They all got wiped out in the storm."

With Kith following her, she could pick up the books a little more quickly. Filling first her arms, and then her own. If they continued on at that pace, they might just be able to get a a large chunk of the library back in relative order before they'd have to break for dinner.

"I'm not keeping you from more pressing duties?" She glanced back again, dark brows arching. "Surely you've got projects."

Ah, her one weakness, questions about her work! It would have been a grossly obvious lie to say she wanted to be here and that cleaning up the library had been her first choice but she also didn't want to show what she'd been feeling when walking in here initially. "I am pretty far down the ladder. All the big projects, specialists and full hunters, get first crack at the labs. Yao hasn't messaged me in a day or so but I'll go in soon to make sure he's still alive." Her research director was not the most social man so it wasn't a big deal to have radio silence on a normal day.

Her smile was a bit strained but still genuine as she shifted the weight of the books. "So, no, you're not keeping me from anything more pressing. And at least I'm doing something worthwhile rather than patrolling. I just love walking around doing nothing for hours on end." Eyes rolled dramatically; her feelings about patrol were safe to display. Disdain for doing nothing was universal.

Arms full she moved back towards the cart. "I can help you with the baking books if you want to try. I did it once when I was a kid on a much smaller scale but...same theory, right?" Any chance to experiment was a good one to Kith.

Nena wrinkled her nose, smile still in place, at the mention of Yao. "How is working with Yao? I swear, that man never smiles genuinely." At least not that she'd seen. Granted, she didn't see him much outside of missions or meetings, which might have contributed. Ah well.

Waving it away, she lay another couple of books in Kith's arms. "You don't have to carry all of them. We can switch if you'd like." It felt like Kith was doing a lot more of the less desirable work, and while Nena was happy not to get all dirty, it definitely didn't seem fair to make Kithtyn carry all the damaged books.

The offer to help had her pausing with her hands on one of the larger books, and she turned as she picked it up. "Any help would be great, especially if you've done it before. You can walk me through the process."
