Who: Anastacia and Dr. Kyou When: April 30th, 2017; shortly after midnight Where: Lab 305 Weather: Drizzly, miserable, dark
It was late by the time she arrived back to where she had first truly began, out of breath, shivering, drenched from the rain that kept passing over in spurts after the storm. The chance to take a bus was long over before she even started and so she had been forced to fly, at least until her wings finally said 'no more' and forced her down to a float's pace. It was frustratingly slow for her from that point onward but rather than make her come to her senses and think rationally like it perhaps should have, the long slog back to the Lab only increased her desire to do what had to be done and do it tonight.
She had to know the truth and knew that it would be found inside in a book titled with strange symbols rather than words on page 263. Like a mantra she chanted it in her head and fueled herself onward through rain and aches and shivering skin: Find the book (it would be in his office for sure), take the book (probably out of a case or off a bookshelf), then take off to someplace safe enough to read it (where that was, she'd find out when she got there), and do what had to be done (to the letter, no skimping). Like her Soul she would be the silent predator after a stationary prey, leap upon it, and capture it for her own purposes. She'd be in and out like before, with more built up self-made tension than any actual threat. Easy.
Anya played the words over in her head again as she stared down the building's front doors with a trembling everything and a look that dared anyone who happened upon her to dare and try to stop her now. She was here. This was set. It was happening and it was only the momentary need to rest after a long journey that kept her planted as well as a consideration that the front doors were
A. Locked and
B. Obviously not the best route to take regardless.
No matter. The Widow had ways. With instantly regrettable flick of one long wing Anya floated around the building the same as she had yesterday but with one small, yet noticeable change: she did not attempt to conceal herself. The side yard was dark after the parking lot with its one street lamp illuminating it and the windows of the Lab's upper and lower floors were all dark. No one could see her and no one was watching.
The waterlogged Frei palmed the handle of the sliding glass door she had used as her entrance yesterday and found it locked. She had figured as much and thus didn't let it cause her any dismay. Instead she moved on, floating farther down the length of the building until it ended and became the "backyard" as much as it could be called as such. Overhead the second floor balcony stretched far and wide and provided that much extra darkness as cover even if it was slightly permeated by the dim purple glow of Anya's rune as she slipped beneath.
She hadn't been in Kyou's office in a dog's age but remembered the view from the windows well enough. It was hard to forget the stunted, fat little bush directly outside the right (now technically left) window against the fence so she used that as her marker to know she was at the correct room.
The window screen was easy enough be rid of. An ache-filled slit along the top and then down one side made it flap uselessly downward but Anya then went the extra mile and tore it off the rest of the way, dumping the entire thing on the ground with no ceremony. From there the Widow cupped her face against the glass and squinted hard to see inside, making out what was perhaps the doctor's office chair in the gloom. She'd have to be wary of that and other obstacles. Moving her eyes up, the Frei now took a hard look at the latch on the inside of the window. The sight of it in the unlocked position made her heart skip a beat and with that uncertainty now gone she wasted little further time.
Pressing her fingers hard against the glass Anya strained to push the window up. It gave a little and enough that she could wiggle her fingers under the weather seal and push the window up proper. It gave a short, tired sounding squeak near the end but with that noise it went no further, it was as wide open as could be. Anastacia climbed in.
Okay. Okay. Her heart was back in her throat the moment she was righted again, almost expecting someone to come lurching out of the shadows at any moment. When no one did after a moment in time she felt a little better and set to groping in the dark for the chair. She found it and used it to center herself. Desk in the middle of the room. Book shelves to the right when entering from the laboratory door so...my left.
She turned, brushing her hand along the desk top until there was no more desk there to brush. She floated freely, willing her rune to cast just a bit more light to guide her. The shelves in question in that meager light seemed taller and more daunting than she remembered them being before but she wasn't about to let a trick of the light stop her now. She was timed, after all. Any second and someone could suddenly come down and then she'd be forced to go, empty handed.
Squinting at the book spines Anastacia frowned as she saw they were written in English and hardly magical in topic at all. Science seemed to be the pervading subject at hand here - from anatomy books to zoological compendiums, if it pertained to a Soul it seemed it was shelved here. She tried the next one, same result, albeit more botanical. She moved on down the line from one to the next, shelf by shelf, faster and faster, trading English for Latin - which was using a familiar alphabet and thus not at all what she was looking for - and then that for...well she wasn't sure exactly but it was hardly anything symbol-like.
"What the hell?!" The words were quietly hissed between clenched teeth as her shivering switched from of cold to of frustration. "It's got to be here! It has to be here!"
The opposite side of the room then. Maybe the warlock had done some Feng Shui and the books on miserable magics did best on that side of the room. Anya rose from the floor where the lowest shelf could be found and slipped back toward the desk. This time she used the books to guide her, fingers touching over spines of leather, cloth, textured board, then the wood of the shelf itself, then the cool smoothness of glass.
Glass?
Anya turned her head and took in the sight of a case she hadn't initially seen. Dark stained wood made it just about invisible in the dark, but it was indeed a cabinet of some sort, its double doors more like windows with round knobs attached to the front and a keyhole underneath one on the right hand side. The Widow stared at it in disbelief - how HAD she missed this? She had floated right by it! - but then did as she had with the window and cupped her face to a pane to see inside. She squinted, hard, and could just make out what looked like more books inside!
Nothing ventured... Even if she was wrong she could at least say that she hadn't left it behind with its contents unsearched. Anya took each latch in hand and pulled...but it didn't open. What?
She tugged again to the same result. Then she gave the knobs a little shake. They rattled, but held fast.
Locked!
She could have been upset, probably should have been, but instead her heart skipped a beat in elation. A locked cabinet with books inside? This HAD to be it!
"Please, please, please, please..." She felt along the top of the cabinet for the chance the keys might be kept there, then along the side that was more exposed to searching hands. Nothing was found, but the Frei pivoted and bolted for the desk. "Please be like Zeke...Please for the love of god be like Zeke..."
She pushed the chair out of the way and it wheeled a short distance away. Anya started grabbing drawers and pulling them open, digging through each one until she finally came upon it - a ring of keys.
THANK YOU!
They jingled merrily as she grabbed them, holding them level with her rune to use its light to flip through each of them.
Too new, wrong shape, no, no, no, n--THIS ONE!
She jammed the key that looked the most promising into the hole and turned it hard. It stuck at first - like it hadn't been used in a long while perhaps - but with enough pressure applied it finally did turn and the lock gave a sharp, audible 'click'. She grabbed the doors and pulled them wide open with surprising ease before she shoved her hands deep into the cabinet's innards and started feeling each and every spine. The books inside felt and smelled old, and by far had to be the oldest things in the Lab. Anya thumbed the lettering set into each book, finding that they weren't letters persay. Her heart beat faster at that singular notion and she wished her phone hadn't s**t the bed as soon as it had, pulling one book out in order to light up its cover with her rune before putting it back and grabbing the next one in line to do the exact same.
"Please be in here. Please, please be in here!!!"

The breaking and opening of the window did not wake him, nor did the sound of Anya rustling through his books. He stirred at the sound of the cabinet rattling, and finally woken up when the Frei was opening and closing the drawers. The sound of the wood rubbing against each other from the old drawers were louder than what Anya think they are. Eyes open, he looked in the direction of his office, which is just next door, only separated by the single wooden door that leads out of this room. He heard a faint jingle, his keys? They were really close as well. In fact, it sounded like it's just right outside of his door. And right next to his door was....
Good lord, are the burglars going after his precious ancient tomes?!
Fully awake and quietly climbing out of his bed now, Kyou grabbed one of the crutches that's still propped against his bed. He don't use them nowadays, but he haven't got around to putting them in the storage yet. Which he is grateful for as he can now use them as a weapon. As gently as possible, he inched his way towards his door. Gingerly he flatten one ear against his the wooden surface, trying to listen to what is happening on the other side. Sounds of paper rustling could be heard, as well as gentle thumps when the books were placed back into the cabinet, hitting the back of it. There was no doubt about it, they are just outside his door. Waiting a little longer, he tried to listen to other sounds, trying to determine if there are any other invaders in the room. There doesn't seem to be any however, the person right outside his door was it.
Kyou had to be careful though, who knows if the other person was armed or not. He had to hit them squarely on the head to knock them out, no questions asked, as soon as he opens his door. Flexing his fingers around one end of his crutch, he tighten his grip as he placed the other hand on the door handle. He drew in a few deep breaths before opening the door quite suddenly, his crutch raised.
But he stopped before he landed the blow. Although it was dim, he could roughly make out who it was in the room due to the light from her rune.
"Anya?"

She was halfway through the cabinet when she felt a gust of air against her face. Anya jerked from it, turned to look for the source, and the book she held fell to the floor with a heavy thud and a plume of dust. The Widow froze on the spot as she saw the crutch angled there so close to where her head had been and then came eye to eye with the one who bore it.
"Kyou," his name was spoken on a surprised, almost inaudible whisper when she heard her own. Her body went numb then just as suddenly tensed; her eyes widening and her wings and crown expanding in alarm. The room was still dark but her eyes had adjusted to it enough to make him out and even if she hadn't recognized his horns through the gloom then his voice was no mistake. She had been caught.
s**t!
"You..." Her mind said one thing and her mouth another. Internally she was tearing - the discovered and frightened of that fact part of her wanted to run as she had from her home while the other, angrier, more desperate part wanted to rush the man and demand answers for everything right here and right now. Trapped between the warring sides she remained stock still a foot from his crutch, trembling all over. "You...You shouldn't be awake. It-It's late."
She didn't know what to say to him right then. The words just fell from her lips without any thought behind them, in a matter of fact tone of voice she was surprised she could muster in this moment. Maybe there was a part of her deep down that hoped she had more charisma and persuasiveness than she actually had which would make him believe the words or consider her a figment of his imagination and send himself back off to bed with little more than a 'I'm half asleep and seeing things'. Deep down she chided herself as the words hung in the air. That thought alone was stupid. And she was stupid. She hadn't been as careful as she thought. The hinges on the cabinet really had squeaked as loud as it sounded and it wasn't just a trick of her ears thanks to adrenaline. She was a fool to come when the house was full of sleeping bodies rather than wait for daytime when everyone was likely to be out.
If I had just been patient ********>

Seeing that it's Anya, Kyou lowered the crutch, although he was still gripping it like a baseball bat. He could only watch in mild confusion as Anya stammered about it being late. Right, Anya had not been around much recently, and she also had not been privy about their personal lives at the Lab. She probably didn't know that he had moved his bedroom permanently downstairs, still thinking that upstairs is their living quarters.
"I should ask you the same thing." Kyou said as he looked directly at the black widow. "What are you doing here so late?"
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what Anya is doing here so late at night though. A glance behind the Frei at the opened window, and the fact that his locked cabinet had been opened, pretty much sums up the predicament they are in.
Bending down, he picked up the book that Anya dropped, carefully patting some dust away at the ancient cover, grateful too see that the book was not damaged. The book is the value of a small house, but he chose not to reveal this as it may freak Anya out. It will probably give Zeke a heart attack to know that Anya dropped it. However, he can surmise a guess at what the Frei is actually looking for, as Zeke had called him earlier as promised, to report about Anya's reaction to the truth when it was told. Boldly while still holding the book to his chest, he took a step towards the Frei who look intimidated at the moment.
"You can't find what you're looking for in this cabinet."

Dammit, that plan hadn't worked. Instead of turning around and going away Kyou stayed where he was. Anya was still frozen, eyes locked with Kyou's even in the dark of the room. Slowly the warlock lowered his crutch, and shortly thereafter spoke.
His tone, like his gaze, was not severe but regardless each syllable felt like Anya was being stung. Each was a pinch, a slap, another hit to her already wounded emotions that she should have waited and not let herself run wild and right into this. She winced, but only just.
"I..." She worked her jaw wordlessly following that, struggling to come up with something, anything that wasn't the obvious truth. That side of her that wanted answers called for grabbing him and shaking and saying he MUST have known full well why she was here and what she wanted but the fearful 'I ******** up' part kept it from happening. If she did that, it said to each hiss and spit and call for ripping the man a new one, it'd only make things worse. Grab or shake the man and he'll cry out. Lazarus would come for him and then for her if and when he saw her with her hands on his Guardian. She'd be hurt or captured or both and then what? Nothing good. All this hard work up until now all for naught.
But still, she wanted to know. She HAD to know. From him. He was the cause of all this. This was all HIS fault because HE went and put HER Essence too close to the edge of the desk! THIS DESK!
She broke eye contact, shaking from crown to the tip of her ribbon from the chill of the rain as much as the war raging within her. It had all happened right here, seven years ago. It was this very desk. Lazarus with a too-tall stack of papers and an Essence far too close to an edge with a substantial drop. An accident. An honest mistake. And yet it wasn't. He should have known better. His whole life was dedicated to cataloguing and knowing about these things and thus HE would know DAMN WELL that the Fel Virus should NOT have been teetering on the brink of disaster like that!
Her eyes burned again with unable to be shed tears. She drew a ragged breath that was cut short when the warlock neared her.
"Don't--" She drew back but he simply went to pick up the book she had dropped moments before. He held it for a moment - checking it, no doubt - before he caught her gaze again.
"And what is it that I'm looking for, Kyou?" There was an edge to her whispered words she couldn't mask as she said them; a sharp sarcasm outlining curiosity and a thin attempt to be cool under fire. Maybe, just maybe, he didn't actually know. She didn't actually believe that was the case but stranger things had happened. He knew, surely he did, even this late after being woken up. Just seeing her here, he knew.
He took a step truly toward her this time and Anya once more backed away. She didn't verbalize the words 'stay away' but her body did so out of reflex. Her wings came around to protect her, but around her sides rather than over her shoulders, crisscrossing over her exposed torso. Her crown scuttled around her face and Anya raised her arms up - forearms another shield between herself and him. What was he doing?
Hell, what the ******** was SHE doing?

It was obvious there was a war raging within the Frei. Her trembling form, being so jumpy, her defensive stance, is her hair wet? A glance outside answers his question though, it was still raining a little, a drizzle. Anya must have came over in the rain.
There is time to answer her questions, but it is probably best to calm Anya down now, at least a little bit.
"Wait here..." He said as he retreated back into his room with the crutch and the book. When he came back, those items were gone and in his hands was a large comfy towel. "Here dry yourselves." If anything, at least make her comfortable first. Then he proceeded to turn on the lights in the room, and walked around the Frei to close the window behind her. Cold wind was blowing into the room, making it a little too chilly for his liking.
"Do you want some tea to warm yourselves?" Kyou inquired, like this was just another casual afternoon meeting, and not a situation of a burglar caught red handed. The look of bewilderment was evident on Anya's face as he walked around acting casually like this. Admittedly, he had never seen the Frei like this before. She is usually so calm and composed. The truth must have hit her pretty hard. He is just trying to distract her with normalcy in an attempt to calm her down. And to show that he really meant her no harm, even if she did looked intimidated just now. Did he looked that intimidating with his crutch?

Amazingly, he stopped and backed away.
In fact he backed away so far he actually left the office and returned to his own bedroom, hobbling through the door with speed unexpected of one needing to use a cane. In all honesty she should have taken this time to book it - to the window to flee or to the bedroom door to slam it shut behind him and somehow block it, it made no matter - but again her own frayed nerves held her fast. She supposed she wouldn't have been able to do either action really, not with how quickly the doctor returned. The book he had picked up from the floor was gone but in its place was...a towel?
"Here dry yourselves." He held it out to her and Anya looked between it and him like she wasn't entirely believing what she was seeing. Her fingers trembled and she gripped her upper arms all the tighter beneath them but, slowly, timidly, reached one hand out to take what was offered. She expected him to grab her in that moment but he didn't, much to her relief. The towel was handed over and once it was the doctor went to the window and closed it. The sound of the latch shutting was painfully audible and in response her heart fearfully leaped in her breast. Anya pulled the towel open and draped it around herself but her eyes never once left the warlock in doing so.
Unexpected kindness in this sort of situation was something to be extremely cautious of, even if the returned warmth to the room was welcome to one with little cold tolerance like herself.
"I..." Kyou then offered her tea as casually as could be and again she was thrown through a loop. She wondered if this was what whiplash felt like and reckoned it had to be so. Her head was spinning and she almost felt breathless. But she didn't tell him that she didn't drink the stuff he offered. Instead she nodded, curiosity mounting, and slowly moved from that spot by the bookcases she had shoved herself to follow him like some trailing shadow.
Curious as she was, she wasn't about to throw her caution to the wind because of a towel and a hot cup of tea.
"Why are you doing this?"
It took a moment to find the words again but when one came the rest quickly followed without chance for her to stop them.
"I don't understand..."
She put a hand to her brow. It ached something awful now.

Kyou was grateful that Anya haven't just bolted when she had the chance. He could still see that her guard is up as they headed to the kitchen. Although seemingly reluctant, Anya is following at least, with the towel wrapped around her.
Halfway through the empty and dark lab, with just the glow of the buttons and the street lamp outside barely illuminating the room, Anya posed the question. Kyou turned around and looked at Anya for a moment, acknowledging the question posed.
"You'll know soon." Was all he said as he pushed the doors into the hallway, turning on the lights there as they could barely see anything. Without saying much, he moved with a slight hobble into the kitchen area, turning on all the lights in there as well. Quietly he took out a small pot and put in a bag of rooibos hibiscus tea. Then added hot water using the hot water dispenser. He would normally prefer to boil the water himself, but he thought that perhaps the guest would probably not have the patience for that. Grabbing two cute Japanese tea cups with artworks of owls on them, he settled everything on the nearest table. "Have a seat." He urged Anya as he took the seat opposite of her.
This will be complicated and difficult to explain, but at least he wanted to be comfortable while doing so. And he hoped that Anya would be as well. As much as she can anyway.

He moved to the door and then out of it and Anastacia followed, ever the shadow.
"You'll know soon."
She inclined her head at the words, looking at him once again like a deer in headlights even in the shadows of the Lab. He said no more as he led her from the literal place of her birth to the kitchen. She lingered just outside the door as the warlock set about turning on lights, only entering after her eyes had adjusted, then set to waiting by that doorway as he got busy with the tea. His words buzzed in her ears and she drew her towel tighter around herself in response. There was a curious sensation in her mouth at the idea of knowing and soon at that. A pressing sort of feeling in the spot beneath her tongue - the sort of feeling some might attribute to the oncoming urge to vomit or salivate.
She was drawn out of listening to the buzz by the slight clatter of cups on a table followed by Kyou's words to have a seat. Anya floated to where the man now sat - giving him a wide berth still as she neared him - and 'sat' as best one with her physical condition could upon the opposite chair. In doing so she let the towel sag somewhat; instead of gripping it around her shoulders the Widow now chose to rest her hands upon the table in front of her, clasping them together and squeezing with all the nerves bundled up within her.
Needless to say, her knuckles quickly turned white.
"Ok, I'm sitting. And I'm listening."

Kyou waited for Anya to be 'seated', then he started pouring her a cup, whether she even wants it or not, then poured a cup for himself as well. The pleasant floral smell wafting into his nose as he did so. The scent has a calming effect, although he doubt it will work much on Anya. He then set the teapot down. The tea was still too hot to drink, so he too placed his hands together, lacing his fingers in front of him thoughtfully.
The Frei was still very tense though, it was easy to tell with her body language. But at least she wasn't as hostile or flighty anymore.
"I know why you are here." He said, his voice clear and calm. "You are seeking... answers. Answers that I will be able to provide." Gold eyes seemed to glow as he looked at the Frei.
"As to answer your previous question. I know you've been asking questions for a while now." He chose his words carefully, so as to not directly exposing Zeke's involvement. "I just want to help you. Help you understand yourself, help you discover your past if you so wish." Then he paused at the end of the sentence, waiting for the Raevan's response.

He poured tea and passed her a cup. Anya looked at it for a solitary moment before reaching out gingerly and sliding the cup the rest of the way toward herself. The jury was out on whether or not she would drink the tea but the heat emanating from and warming the cup was hard to resist.
After a moment further, Kyou spoke again.
The Widow inclined her head to his words, all eyes trained on his face and torso watching his movements as much as his expression and mouth as he formed the words. Of course he knew why she was here, that much she was truly certain of. If not by seeing her and piecing two and two together but surely Zeke had reached out. The vet would have had to admit his folly and prepared the Doctor in advance. It was part of why breaking into the Lab the first time had been so fear-inducing. At the time that thought had been at the forefront of her mind and judging by Kyou's words she hadn't been wrong then.
"I had hoped you would say that," Anya said slowly, her voice taking on a slight rasp which she tried to clear with a turn of her head and a soft cough. "And yes, I have questions. Many questions."
She bristled slightly, not having forgotten her earlier anger that had blossomed fully at the library. It came in the form of a shiver and in response she held the teacup all the closer. Steam rose from the liquid inside and warmed the underside of her chin. It helped a little. She focused on the warlock again.
"But if you really do want to answer my questions then I suppose I should tell you that I found out some answers on my own."
Her bag had been brought with her and for the time between the break in and now had been hiked up on her shoulder, ignored but not forgotten. Like the Frei it was in a soggy state of affairs - muddy and wet, sagging under the weight of its waterlogged self and contents within. With her words hanging in the air Anastacia shrugged one strap off her shoulder and stuck her hand inside. The feeling of cold lingering from the damp was immediate as she stuck her hand inside but she was able to find what she was looking for as soon as she started searching. In one surprisingly smooth motion she pulled the mud-spattered and soggy manila file from the depths of her bag and set it down between herself and Kyou.
Despite the water having damaged the cover, the blurry ink on a tab jutting from one side was still able to be read: 'Anastacia/E. Farris'.
"I think you know what this is, although I'm uncertain if you know I took it or not. Regardless, I went through a lot of trouble to get this and I made sure to read everything in it."
She paused this time, watching him. Waiting.
"I know a lot more than you probably think I do. I've discovered a bit in this so I suppose I should thank you or someone else for keeping such detailed records. As for understanding, I understand...well, maybe not too well to be honest. I think a lot of my questions are going to be 'whys' as opposed to 'hows' or 'whens' or 'whats'."

Kyou was surprised as Anya revealed that she knew more than he thinks. And he was even more surprised when she took out the soggy bag, bringing out the soggy contents from within. It was so dark just now that he didn't noticed the bag at all. Not to mention later on it was covered by the offered towel as well.
The manila folder that was brought out from the soggy mess though, he recognized. He frowned as it's wet now. The ink, especially the printed parts will probably be smudged and unreadable in this state. The written sections would probably be salvageable, at least, he hoped so as he gently pulled the folder towards him. Gingerly he tried to peel it open, to see the damage inside.
Yup, it's ruined.
Closing it, he tried not to think about it as he focused on Anya once more. He... actually didn't know that the file was stolen at all. He should have known, he should have double checked given the warnings from Zeke and all. He should have known that Anya will try to seek answers on her own, much, much earlier than this.
"Okay, I appreciate your frankness. And I appreciate that you're returning the folder." Despite the state it is in. He knew well that she could have burnt it or something just to make his life hell. At least with the folder back he could rewrite the reports or something. Opening the folder wide, he sets it aside so it could dry.
There are a lot of detailed records in the folder, and now he knows that Anya knew a lot more than his initial assumption. It's given him a new perspective and mindset on things. This makes it easier actually, at least it saved a lot of time explaining things to the Frei. That could have been a really really long story. "Alright." His lips thinned as he looked at Anya again. His hands now circled around his own teacup, the warmth from the hot tea helped soothing some of his own nerves. He took a moment to readjust his mind to the current situation.
"What do you want to ask about first?"

The surprise on his face was kind of pleasant to behold if she did say so herself. She had gotten in and out of the Lab right under his nose and with highly sensitive documents in tow. It was a feat to be proud of, even if right now wasn't really the time to be feeling such ways nor rubbing it in the warlock's face.
"Of course."
So she didn't. Instead the Widow nodded and let Dr. Kyou have the folder back without a fuss. She had always intended to return it after doing what needed to be done and while she hadn't fully completed her goal, she didn't need the soggy mass of paper and ink any longer. She could remember the information within - it'd be hard to forget for anyone having read it, let alone her.
"Well..." She started, but the just as quickly stopped. Now that she was here, now that she was in front of him and he was willing to answer her questions, where did she start exactly? There were so many burning questions, so many things she needed to know and had to know, that she couldn't sort out one from the rest. Anya bit her bottom lip in a moment of thought, looking from Kyou to the depths of her teacup in consideration. In her chest her heartbeat quickened and she felt a little electricity run through her nerves again. It made her extremities tremble visible - most noticeably her fingers and her crown.
She looked from the cup to Kyou again. He was patient, waiting, but even then there was something intimidating about him all the while. And wasn't she still upset with him? Well of course, but she had to keep her temper. No matter what he said, no matter how he said it, she'd get farther by being the calm, collected Anya he knew than the frenzied, wild shadow of herself her frustration, hurt, and upset had made her previously.
"I suppose...I think my first question is simply..." She worked her jaw noiselessly, brow furrowing just enough to make her seem the troubled youth she truly was right now. "Why is this so hard all of a sudden? I know what I want to ask I just..."
She shook her head, raising one hand to stop him before he could start a reply to that. That was a rhetorical question. She didn't want him answering. So she had to pick one - now or never - and steeled herself for the response.
"Why am I here? I mean...Why, if my Essence was powerful enough to cause such a large epidemic with such awful symptoms, would you decide to use it to make a Raevan? It doesn't make sense to me. You could have just frozen it or locked it away again in some sort of high security lock box or...something. Anything! But instead you used it to make me. Why?"

Kyou was patient as he waited for Anya to be ready. Even after her show of confidence by revealing the folder, the Frei was quick to return to her nervous self before. The trembling on her hands and her crown was hard to miss, she must really be on her nerves. This was totally unlike the Anya that he had known so long. This was probably extremely hard for her. So he have to be patient, to be kind, and to be understanding to her, waiting for her to be ready.
Anya feigned confidence, but it was apparent that she wasn't ready yet. He didn't even budge when she stopped him from replying, he had no intention to. He will wait.
When the questions came though, it came pouring out of the black widow at once. Why? Was the question.
His lips tighten as he considered his answer, his eyes dipped to look at the cup of tea his hands were wrapped around. He hated to be technical, but there are specific parts to the question that he had to address first. "Fel essences... can't be frozen, or be put in any sort of stagnant state." He looked up at Anya as he spoke. "They simply exist. Sealed in a container that can contain them. The downside is that the container can only be made of glass, as only glass can take the enchantment to seal the fel essences." That was probably the flaw in the system, albeit necessary and they don't have any other choices.
"I did thought about locking it up with the other high security fel essences." Kyou admitted, he does have a few that he locked away always. Although at that time, there wasn't any fel essences in that collection that was dangerous by just existing. They would only be dangerous if fallen into the wrong hands. Quietly for a moment, he recalled his thought processes back then, what had happened, how he had came unto the decision in the end. "However, in the end, I had put my faith in Zeke." His golden eyes looked straight into Anya's lavender ones as he spoke. "I believed that he would be able to raise a good Raevan that will not be able to, and will not use those powers even if she can."
"And I still stand by that decision, I regretted nothing." He still believed in the Frei.

She gripped her cup as he started to explain. Fel Essences couldn't be frozen? That seemed so weird - after all, some Essences were bound to be water-derived - but she supposed the magic that made an Essence a Fel Essence was just weird that way.
Hell, magic in general was just weird that way. She should know.
Anya straightened a little as Kyou went on to mention his consideration about locking the Virus up. He looked her dead in the eyes as he spoke but the Frei couldn't help but look away when he mentioned her Guardian. Her phone was long dead but in the back of her mind she was certain the vet was still desperately calling her, trying to get through to her. Trying to find her.
Am I a good Raevan? She almost wanted to ask, but held off. In this moment, Anastacia doubted Kyou's answer would be 'yes' in any fashion. After what she had done, after what she had been and still was hoping to do, no goodly Raevan did such things. Even her own internal voice sounded doubtful. It made her wince.
"I can't use my powers," she used that as a segue to pull herself from the silent beratement of herself, "because you cursed me."
Anya worked her jaw noiselessly from there for a moment, although her tone hadn't been accusatory even then.
"Why did you curse me? I mean...I know it was to seal the Fel Virus, that was obvious in the file but..." She slowly shook her head, as if to rattle the words into line. "But I know there are other Raevans out there with Fel Essences and Souls that are comparably dangerous. Do they have those parts of themselves sealed too? Or am I the only one? And if I am...why?"
Although she wouldn't throw a friend under the bus like this, she thought of Iorek the night of the jungle. He had gone berserk through the influence of the Fear Essence, becoming bestial and vicious and downright dangerous. Had that side of him been sealed up before his birth to keep him from it? Clearly not; she had had the marks to prove it. Recently still the Gargoyle had shown signs of that inner anger again, blowing up at Zeke upon the reveal of the vet knowing more than he had let on, and not letting Iorek nor Anya herself know.
She wondered about that.
She also wondered if Kyou remembered that Zeke was a part of his staff and that by being his Raevan, she knew a bit more about the make up of the others of her kind more than the average Frei or Sigel without asking. She had even held some of the Fel Essences that would eventually go into making Freis she knew. At the time they had seemed harmless, even pretty in some cases, but looking back...didn't they all have some innate potential for danger?
She could remember plenty of times when Zeke would stress to a curious new Guardian that they should keep their Fel Essence capped at all times. Wasn't that a red flag right there? How was it fair that they could go about their lives as freely as could be when she couldn't?
"In any case...The Fel Virus is my Essence. It's a part of me. Its abilities would be my abilities right? And if they're mine, then...I would be able to control them! And I wouldn't just go around making people sick!"
She fidgeted a little. He didn't think that of her, did he?
Then again, did he think she was a good Raevan?
"In fact, when I feed on people's sicknesses I end up making them better. Isn't that a good thing? And...And I know that Zeke and Brad never seem to get sick. Or if they do, it's never for long. That'd be because they live with me, right?"
