[ JOB LISTING ] Loan shark

[ DIFFICULTY LEVEL ] gaia_star gaia_star gaia_star

[ TASK ] It's time to call in some loans - aka the bank's most formidable and infamous task, what they're best known for. Luna - or rather, Luna's assistants - have scheduled you some interviews with people who are behind on their loan payments.

[ MECHANICS ] Roll 1d100 and see how well you've fared. You may have two clients a day.

  • 01 - 15 - The person you've been instructed to speak to is a young teenager who keeps crying everywhere. It's a little flustering to try and talk when someone is sobbing on your shoulder...needless to say. Luna simply hands you a tissue to figure things out, and you have snot on your shoulder. ( fail )

  • 16 - 30 - A set of triplets has arrived to claim their reasoning for being behind on their small business loan. All of them are quite cheerful, but sometimes too much talking gets confusing; fortunately, you can sort through all of their yammering in order to get them to pay a portion back. Luna is satisfied. ( pass )

  • 31 - 45 - Your patron looks so much like someone you know that it throws you off your game for a few seconds. Luna seems to think this is quite normal; maybe it's just one of those weird doppleganger coincidences. Either way, you're comfortable speaking with them. ( pass )

  • 46 - 60 - You spend the appointment reminiscing with an elderly patron who just seemed to want to talk. Luna, although still quiet, seems strangely satisfied with this outcome and gives you one of their rare nods of approval by the end. ( pass )

  • 61 - 75 - You flirt your way to getting a payment with your patron. Or, if you're not good at flirting, you're good at persuading somehow. They flirt back, but alas, it's not meant to be. Still, they're good natured about it, and so are you (hopefully). ( fail )

  • 76 - 90 - Your patron has a puppy that you get completely distracted by - whether in a good way or a bad way, regardless, you completely forget your original goal.( fail )

  • 91 - 100 - You meet with a high profile client who is as smooth as a shark and as cool as a cucumber. Nothing you say and do can ruffle them, but in spite of this, Luna is satisfied when you managed to skillfully get them to repay a portion of their owed money. ( pass )

When she first took on the job, donning clothing she thought a horseman in disguise might be wearing, she thought it would be easy. Or easy enough.

Nia quickly discovered that getting someone to pay up, without resorting to direct brute force, was not as easy as she had expected.

Of course not, she had been foolish to regard something referred to as a loan shark job to be a piece of cake.

"I'm afraid it's time to pay up, handsome." Nia cooed, throwing on charm over her generally stoic composure. Banter went back and forth, some flirtiness that became more natural as the conversation progressed and yet -

Somehow the man walked away without forfeiting any funds.

s**t.

How did she mess that up?

Her second target required her infiltrating a more high-profile scene and she dressed up for the occasion. Wearing the slinky red dress she'd acquired from the antique's store, Nia approached the client with all the confidence she could muster.

No matter what she said to him, he was calm and relaxed. A picture of cool, if she were to describe it and keeping herself from scowling was frustrating, to say the least.

"Payment isn't something too difficult for a man such as yourself, don't you think?" She attempted, batting the long dark lashes of hers.

In the end, she walked away with some of the owed money, so there was progress at least

Luna seemed to think it was adequate, which was good enough.

resusing thread for new day!

Nia took one look at her latest assignment and had to do a double take. The woman had short, cropped dark hair and dark skin dotted with darker freckles.
She was small, at least a foot shorter than the Moon Hunter who blinked more than once as she took in the woman's appearance.

It was hauntingly familiar and for one moment, Nia thought that there was a name on her tongue but -

Something was off.

When she made a passing comment to Luna, she didn't seem phased and shrugged it off. There was some comment made about it being perfectly normal or that it happened all the time, don't worry about it which seemed more suspicious.

How many hired loan sharks were there going after people they might have known?

Either way, the startling resemblance made conversation easy. The dark skinned woman didn't seem too bothered by Nia's approach and idle chatter and didn't even seem to mind when she broached the subject of owed money.

Of all her collections, this had been the easiest.

Alls well that ends well.
