Antiquity: Art and Antiques

The Building itself could almost be mistaken for a nice hotel. Warm stone tiles adorn the outside, and grand arches reveal windows which display good varying from old furniture to fine jewelry. Between the windows large pots hold tall plants, everything from rose bushes to palm trees. The center arch has a sign wrought in brass: Art and Antiques. It's a very classy antique shop.

Upon entering, you find yourself in a nice gallery. White tile floor, warm cream colored walls. Art and tapestries hang all around the room, and various antique goods are on display in warmly lit glass cases. Old vases and urns, beautiful jewelry, finely carved figures inlaid with pearl and obsidian, old artisan clocks, and old books and maps are just a few of the items available to look at. Everything is clearly marked with an explanation, history, and a price. It's free to browse.

A man in a very fancy vest greets you. "Are you here for about the part time work? Excellent. Miss Adelaide is out right now, but I assure you I have full authority to hire you." He smiles warmly and ushers you inside.

"Are you here about the job?" A tall woman with dark hair addresses you. "Come, this way. We don't have time to waste, I'll give you the tour and put you to work." The tour is a whirlwind. You learn that there are multiple levels within the building, a couple below ground even. Above the First Floor gallery there are offices, and a large room where auctions are held. The underground levels are used as both restoration labs and storage. It seems the back of the building is dominated by a large loading dock.

Adelaide introduces herself as the CEO and overall head of the business. She seems a little terse - the type of woman who isn't going to abide slackers in her workforce. Some might describe her as 'prim and proper'.

"Have a seat," she says, leading you to a very nice office. It's neat and organized. Along one wall is a small collection of ancient weapons, and along another a collection of various chess boards and pieces.

"We serve as the middle man, getting clients what they want or need. Your job here will be to assist with that. In house things, of course. Field work is reserved for the most senior and trusted of us. Perhaps one day that can be you." She smiles at you. "You were here about the job, right?"

OOC Stuff

Welcome to Antiquity: Art and Antiques! Adelaide is in charge here, and she rules with a gentle smile backed by an iron fist and probably a few knives.

To the public view - it's simply a classy antique shop. They are known for being able to track down rare items, helping people with money fill out collections.

All of this is a front (and a hobby, really) to mask the true business: Deals in illegal arms and weapons. They sell, transport, and supply all manner of firearms and other weapons.

There are kittens on the premises. They are human world animals and may not be taken to dusk, However, feel free to play with them in the shop!
They are: The black and white one is Socks. The grey one is Cloudeater, the other grey one is Velociraptor, the orange one is Banna, the cinnamon one is Cinnimon. gaia_kittenstar

gaia_star A reminder to go here on how to take on a job!

[ JOB LISTINGS ]

Quote:
[ JOB LISTING ] Assistant Sales Clerk
[ DIFFICULTY LEVEL ] gaia_star
[ TASK ] The key word here is Assistant. You will be helping with the front of house operations and other minor tasks. Roll 2d4. The first die chooses the task for the day, the second die is the 'event'. RP accordingly! Events can be major or minor, it is up to you. (If I roll 2,4, then I have task 2, and the 4 dictates my event.)

  1. You are asked to watch the front of house. It's not terribly difficult, as customers usually just come in to browse and - Oh, no. That woman over there isn't watching her three children and they've decided to play tag among the priceless, delicate displays. Event: If your second dice is odd the children nearly break a vase. If it is even they pull a tapestry off the wall.

  2. "Here is the duster. This cleaner is for glass, this one for the shelves." As the newest member of the team, the tedious task of dusting everything in the main gallery falls to you. Try not to break anything, and remember: You need a streak-free shine! Event: If your second dice is odd you have trouble with some greasy fingerprints on glass. If it is even the manager isn't pleased with your work and asks you to do it again (just rp no rolling!)

  3. Coffee run! The manager is requesting one mid-sized cafe mocha, extra chocolate and whipped cream, as well as six other drinks for various staff and clients. The coffee place is two blocks down the street. "Oh, and don't forget a half dozen of their triple-chocolate muffins." Event: If your second die is odd the coffee shop clerk gives you too much change. If it is even the coffee shop clerk winks at you, slipping an extra muffin into the to-go bag.

  4. Unloading duty. A shipment has arrived and your job is to help unload the truck. There are 20 wooden crates, weighing anything from 2 pounds to as much as you. Event: If your second dice is odd as your reach for a box a large rat crawls out the box and up your arm. If it is even nearly all of the boxes are very heavy.

[ JOB LISTING ] Restoration Apprentice
[ DIFFICULTY LEVEL ] gaia_star gaia_star
[ TASK ] You seem competent enough to be trusted with some of the more delicate work that goes on in the shop. Namely the handling of some of the finer goods. It's either dirty or broken and needs a quick fix and a small polish. "You'll be in the basement today, follow me," the manager says Roll 1d10 to find out which object you get to work with.

If you roll 1-3
You are handed a small wooden crate. Inside are several delicately wrapped pottery pieces. "They're Greek. They're old. Be careful with them." Your job is simple. Re-assemble an urn using some special adhesive made for such things.

First Step: Separate the pieces. Roll 5 d6. You will have to do this at least twice. You are looking to get a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 - in any order. You just need one of each. Once you have all six, you have your pieces!

Second Step: Simply RP matching them up/gluing them together. (this can be done in the same post as your last piece roll)

If you roll 4-7
You are given a painting to clean. You are left a box of q-tips, a bottle of water, and a few very fine and soft towels. "It's a spit shine we are going for. Yes, spit." The manager gestures at the painting. "It's one of the very best things for cleaning old oil paintings like this one. Wet the q-tip, use it till it's dirty, then get a new one." He points at a table with a stool. "Get started." Roll 1 d20 to see what the manager thinks of your work. RP accordingly.

If your roll was 1-10:
--You work on the painting for no more than 5 minutes before the Head Restorer interrupts you. "You are pushing too hard. It's a light touch. Feather light." She watches you to make sure you get it right.
-----Look at the 1 d20 roll again. (no need to reroll)
-------If even she nods. "Yes. Just like that," she says with a smile. "Excellent work." You get to spend the next few hours painstakingly cleaning the painting.
-------If odd she shakes her head and sighs. "No. Lightly. Just," she puts her hand over her face and inhales. "Just go over there and watch how Remus is doing it." You get to spend the rest of the day observing.

If your roll was 11-20:
--The manager watches you work for a few minutes before nodding and walking away. It seems he trusts you to complete the task - so you spend the next couple of hours on it.
-----Look at the 1 d20 roll again. (no need to reroll)
-------If even after two hours, just as you are about half way done with the painting, the manager returns. "Yes, you are doing very well, indeed." He smiles, and then sets down a second painting, even larger than the first. "I expect this one to be done after you complete the first." He nods and walks away.
-------If odd after two hours, the manager returns and leans over your work. "Oh dear. Oh no." He looks at you and shakes his head. "It's not bad, but it's not good enough. Adelaide would never approve. Start again. The colors should be vibrant and bright after you've gone over them." He leaves you alone with your work.

If your roll was 8-10

"Here," the manager says, leading you to a quiet corner with a table and some cleaning supplies. "I need you to take care of what's in the box."

Roll 1 d100 and look inside the box:

If your roll ends in 0 or 5

---The box holds several knives, all covered in blood. "They need cleaned, I expect a like-new shine. They are old, so be gentle with them." She glances at the box them back at you. "I expect discretion. We do not worry about what clients do outside of our store." S
----If the roll ended in 0, you cut yourself at least once. (If it ended in 5 the cut is up to you.)

If your roll ends in 2, 4, 6, or 8

---The box holds a large amount of gold and silver coins. They are tarnished and covered in much and water deposits. "We are cleaning them for a client who found them off the coast." The manager doesn't say which coast. "They are indeed pirate gold. I expect them to be cleaned and as polished as you can make them."

---When you are finished, Remus inspects your work.
-----If your roll ended in 2 or 4: "Good work. Now, empty your pockets. All of them. It's company policy."
-----If your roll ended in 6 or 8: "Could be better. I'll have Harv give them another once over. Now empty your pockets. Company policy."
(No, you can't steal the coins.)

If your roll ended in 1, 3, 7, or 9

--The box is full of kittens. "These were found in the alley out back last week. We've still had no sign of the mother, and I have to be out of the office all day. You are on kitten sitting duty." Remus hands you some kitten food and some small dishes. "Don't panic, they are old enough for kitten food, no bottle feeding unless you really want to. Don't let them out of your sight. Adelaide will kill us all if something happens to them."

No extra dice rolling, just RP your character babysitting 5 kittens in the corner of a basement. gaia_kittenstar

[ JOB LISTING ] Inventory Manager
[ DIFFICULTY LEVEL ] gaia_star gaia_star gaia_star
[ TASK ] Monitor and list all incoming and outgoing inventory.

"Okay, look," the manager seems very irritated. "We just had two trucks come in and drop off their goods. Our current help mixed the boxes up."

He hands you a clip-board. "I need you to check each box's invoice and decide where it goes. If the invoice says 'Cavalry' you just put an X here," he points to the bottom left corner of the paper, "and have those idiots stack it over there. Don't actually count Cavalry boxes in the total number of boxes on the form. If it says anything else on the box, I need you to open it and make sure the invoice matches. Fill out your report when you're done."

Roll 8 d4: These are the boxes, and there are 8 of them. For each box follow the instructions below and RP accordingly.
--If you roll doubles, it means you have two of that particular box and need to follow it's instructions twice. Same with triples, etc.

  1. This box says it holds one complete silver dinner set. Roll 1 d10 to see what's missing.

    -----If you roll a:
    -------1. Everything is there.
-------2. It is missing the gravy boat.
-------3. Two spoons are no where to be found.
-------4. One serving platter is listed, but not in the box.
-------5. Three forks have magically disappeared.
-------6. One spoon and on butter knife are missing.
    -------7. Everything is there.
    -------8. Two plates are missing.
-------9. There are NO forks in this set. WHAT?!
-------10. Everything is there, but the large serving platter has a huge gouge on it. Best make a note.

  2. This box is supposed to hold on large grandfather clock. Best check for damages. Roll 1 d6. If even it's in perfect condition. If odd the glass on the front is broken. You had better make a note.

  3. Three large tapestries from the year 1400. Roll 1 d4. If you roll a 1 or 2, one tapestry is missing. If you roll a 3, they all have water damage. If you roll a 4, everything looks good!

  4. This box is labeled "Cavalry". No need to check the contents, simply RP ordering the part-timers to stack it in the corner.

When you are done checking all 8 boxes, fill out the form below and post it in your last post.
