Maebe returned to Bates, put on all the protective clothing they had to offer, and began to recklessly mix up some poisonous substances in the hopes of making yet another terrible concoction just as they were hoping for.

As she mixed, she began to see a translucent blue color forming in the vial. It was cloudly even as she swirled it, so she carefully gave it a sniff. Nothing, as far as she could tell.
She sucked it into a syringe and tested it on the machine, earning the most common response of a seconds worth of readings, before nothing happens and it's showed to be a failure.

Maebe thought that maybe going into the job without any sort of care or thought might just keep provoking failures, so she decided to actually pay attention to what she was doing this time. She picked up a vial and began to mix it with a much more acidic liquid, stirring them carefully over the fire. When nothing happened, she attempted to add a drop of yet another ingredient, and the result was instant. The solution hissed and turned a vibrant shade of red, billowing with a metallic scent that burned her nostrils. This, surely, would be disastrous for the test subject.
She sucked the liquid into a syringe and applied it, waiting for the results. Sure enough, the readings indicated that this would slow vital signs of a living creature until it was in an induced coma. She'd done that. She'd made something that powerful! She was very proud of her work.
