They had been over the borders for such a short time. To Geei it did feel a little like a lifetime. She had been born in the rogue lands and though she had little want to come back to them, here she was, outside, enjoying, remembering. She missed the sand already. Not that she would admit that to anyone. It was like blasphemy. The newly dubbed corporal had taken it upon herself to join the mission in to the outside lands. She wanted to prove she was worthy of the new title, she felt worthy. She just missed home already. The troupe of firekin was not so far away but she had decided to take a short wander while the others rested. A little scout around, maybe call up some conversation skills and find out what was nearby. She had travelled much as a youngster but the world was so very large it was neigh on impossible to have seen it all. Where they were now, was some where she had never been. Geei was diplomatic enough to know if she found the nearest herd and water source she could bring that information back to her pride fellows. Twitching her tail the big black and white female made a beeline for a small copse of acacia trees, shade usually meant life and life usually meant water so she would start there.

“So, like I was saying… Kaelyn is having cubs soon so I needed to get away. That’s when I met him, you know?” Rolling his black eyes, Midas couldn’t help but find the young lioness more than amusing- Young love was certainly something he was thankful never struck him. If he was honest, this sounded more like lust and perhaps jealousy rather than a beautiful bonding.
“Vesta, if I may be honest, perhaps you should wait awhile before pursing this lion further…” Midas was now eyeing the lion in question- An older brown fellow with bright turquoise markings. It wasn’t that the lion was bad, per say, but he was considerably older than Vesta. The last thing Midas wanted was to be reamed out for allowing Vesta to turn up pregnant after a Viking tour. Shuddering at the thought of Kaelyn tearing him a new a*****e, Midas moved in front of Vesta to block the view of the lion she was admiring.
“Anyway, about this training…”
Shooting a glare at Midas for intruding, Vesta peeked over him, locking eyes with Tandu who was happily standing in the small water puddle. Fluttering her lashes at the large brown lion, Tandu just nodded a hello back at her. He knew his place and although the young adult was a beauty, he’d rather not deal with the golden maned lion beside her.
“Midas… please just…”
The white lion was about to argue, however the approaching lioness halted the action. “Vesta, stay there.” Black eyes glared into grey pools, his body rigid as he stood. Normally he’d be more than happy to have a visitor, but his companion was more important to him at the moment. Moving forward a few steps, Midas distanced himself from Vesta while also allowing the lioness to meet him first.
“Can I help you?”

The black and white female paused in her steps. Her shoulders tensed for a moment, the fur on the back of her neck bristled. Yes she needed help but why was he being confrontational, she could smack that look off his maw. She kicked that thought away. She needed information, she needed to be diplomatic. "Greetings." She nodded at the lions gathered around. She hadn't been wrong about the trees. There was water and life. Lion shaped life. Perhaps this was a small pride on the move or maybe it was just a social gathering? Either way she could probably ask them some information. "My fellows and I are looking for some information. Are you from around here?" She raised a brow, wow, diplomacy was hard. She would usually just tear in and be more blunt, but she had to prove she could be a leader out here. Of course, she mentioned she was with others, but she wasn't going to say where they were from or how many of them there were, they already looked like a war band, if this was a pride, even if it was a tiny one, she didn't want to start some sort of argument over land rights, especially since they were just passing through.

The bristling hadn’t gone unnoticed, but rather than pointing it out as he usual would the lion stifled the urge and just met the lioness’ gaze. Every twitch of her body, every hint of agitation was noticed by Midas who hoped to the Gods that Vesta would just stay put for a small amount of time. The large lioness, he had realized, was a firecracker for sure and definitely not someone he wanted to get into a mild scuffle with. Pushing past the brush, Vesta appeared behind Midas, replying to the lioness before he had the chance to speak. “What’s it to you if we are from here or not?” Grey eyes glared Geei, if read wrong it seemed like the lioness was even coaxing the firekin female into a fight. Midas whale-eyes, turning completely around to face Vesta, “STOP NOW.” The white and gold lion was bristling, his haunches raised and claws drawn, “You are so eager to learn how to fight and survive but you LACK COMMON SENSE.” Snarling, Midas took a step forward Vesta as she shrunk away from him, cowering for once in her life. “Midas I just…” Vesta started, only to be halted by the cold gaze held by the lion. Sitting down silently, she decided she’d be defiant, but quiet. Midas couldn’t complain about her if she was just sitting there. Gnashing teeth together, the normally composed lion watched Geei carefully before backtracking. “Sorry for the rudeness… that is Vesta and I am Midas. We are on a Viking and also in unfamiliar territory. What is it you are looking to know?”

Geei watched as the large male confronted the female. Sitting slowly the massive black and white female chuckled. "Younger sister?" Again a brow raised, she knew how that was, she was forever plagued by two younger siblings whom she was fairly certain had seen her lose hair sometimes. "We are passing through." Again, the vague we, she actually had;'t counted properly how many lions had come from the sands, she guessed around thirty. They did look like a warring tribe. "I am looking for information about the lay of the land." Again a pause, vikings, she had faintly heard of them, mainly from newer outsiders and from the guards of course. They were a massive pride of warriors. She felt a shiver roll down her spine. The golden maned male certainly seemed like a warrior. "Perhaps you can tell me the way you have travelled, I have, sort of heard of you." She smiled lightly, barely glancing at the female,s he had been put in her place and while Geei was an independent female, youngsters needed to know their place. She wasn't some push over, though she had been born a rogue she was a firekin corporala nd she had won her rank through sweat, blood and fighting. She wouldn't be disrespected by as kid.

Midas raised a brow at the stranger, then glanced over at Vesta- She didn’t even look like she could be related- glancing back to the black lioness he figured maybe she was a bit slow or something. “Umm… No. Not at all. I am sort of like a mentor for her.”
Vesta stifled a laugh, having seen Midas’ expression before he had looked away. She’d definitely witness that look before- the look that told whoever seen it that he was judging someone. “I mean, I don’t really look like him. People thought I was Kaelyn’s daughter but not…”
Midas sent a glare straight at Vesta who quickly shut her mouth and shrunk back further. “The mouth on you…” Midas retorted before giving attention to Geei again.
She really was daft if she thought he’d so easily give up the sensitive information to a passing stranger. Unable to hold back his sharp tongue any longer, Midas replied- “If you know about us then you definitely wouldn’t be asking us where we came from. We of the Stormborn take pride in our work and have travelled far and wide to gather information and create a map of the lands around us. Do you think our efforts are merely worth a smile and a pretty face?”
Vesta stared in shock, Midas had been so delicate around her that she hadn’t really had the opportunity to witness his ‘devil’ side. There had been gossip about it, sure, but she didn’t think much of it. That is, until now. He really was cruelly blunt and abrasive when his agitation was raise…
“M-Midas… Perhaps…” Vesta’s eyes shifted over to Geei- Clearly she was a warrior and she had said she was with company. The situation looked bad and the last thing she wanted to tell her family when she got back was that she’d caused some sort of war.

Geei bristled. She openly bristled, her fur was short, time in the desert had made it this way, but it was obvious that the ridge along her spine rose. She strode forwards without a moments hesitation, she didn't want to start a fight, she didn't want to start a war, but this male, he had to be put in his goddamed place and she wasn't about to let him speak to her like she was some silly cub! "I have seen red lions produce blue, I have seen white produce rainbows, I have spent the bulk of my life on hot sands and have seen life and death flash before my eyes for lack of water and scorching heat. I am a corporal of the firekin and I will not be spoken to like some chit barely from her mothers titter!" Again she moves forwards lowering her stance, she would not attack but she would threaten if need be. "We are not looking for a fight, we are not looking for a war we are looking for information, a civil tongue should be held in your head blondie. I am not someone to be laughed at or trifled with." She spits and having moved in close enough she settles herself in to a sit and starts to groom her paw as if they were nothing, she could relax, she was not afraid, she had heard much of the stormborn but if they could not be civil around another, clearly powerful lion, perhaps they were a pride of fools and not worth her time. Would this be the news she would fetch back to the party that was resting not all that far away. "Now, do you have any information for me or should I return to my group?" A raised brow in question, and a curl of her tail around her paws, she was close enough to be attacked but also close enough to attack, she would get an answer, even if it was something simple and trivial.

Vesta was the one who was bristling now- Even though she knew she’d have to eventually fight her own battles, she wouldn’t be honest if she said she was ready. Her paws were sweating as she kept glancing over to Midas whom, honestly, looked rather composed given the situation. Shifting back and forth on her legs, the young adult wobbled and shook, tail tucked low.
“M-Midas…” Vesta braved a glance at their opponent as she shouted about being a Firekine and her ears perked immediately. A Firekin! Kaelyn was a Firekin, D-Dooley was a Firekin… or was… they were! “W-wait, you might know Kaelyn! O-or Dooley perhaps?!”
Midas who now had the corporal breathing down his neck did nothing but stand his ground and stare. She didn’t scare him and he would be damned to just offer his information freely- He had absolutely no ties to the Firekin and although there were many that had joined the Stormborn that were of Firekin blood, it still gave him no right to just freely spout what some have given their lives for.
“It doesn’t matter who you are, I cannot freely offer information to someone who hasn’t proven themselves worthy of it.” He crouched lower so his nose was damned near pressed to her own. “Do –you- understand?” Picking himself up, Midas puffed out his chest, quickly address Vesta.
“Seriously not the time, Vesta.” Midas tilted his head, studying the Corporal before finally coming to a decision.
“There have been many who never returned from their Viking tours- To dishonor them by freely offering information without some sort of proving would be akin to me pissing on their graves.” Midas paused and looked directly into Geei’s eyes, “Fight me, prove your mettle and I will help you. Do you understand?”

The dark eyed lioness looked calmly at Midas. She smirks, her tail flickering around her toes. She wasn't to be shaken by the lion. She had faced down larger opponents after all. She had gained her rank through fighting, through determination and steel, she had fire in her belly and she wasn;t about to back down from a challenge. "Fine, let it be a battle then." She licks her lips, she could taste the excitement in her mouth, her body tingled, a fight, a fight to win information without starting a war? This was very interesting. Oh how she wanted to smack that look off his face, how she wanted to show the lion that she could in fact, hold her own against anyone. Looking around she checked where they stood and raised her chin to nod at a clearer area. The trees would cause problems, the grass would tangle. A clear spot to fight would give them both an advantage and would stop any accidents. She couldn't afford to get injured after all. She glanced briefly at Vesta and raised a brow. She didn't know the names she spoke of, but she knew some of the others that were out in the rogue lands that would possibly know them. "A pride of warriors would undoubtedly attract our Huria. There are some that may know them but I do not know those names." She sniffed and turned her back on the white male. "Come, we will duel and you will grant me information in the end. What do you want if you win?" This was a tit for tat after all. If she had to return to the others without any information, that was her loss but she might owe this male something, which would be annoying but she wasn't one to shirk from an owed debt.

Midas broke out into a grin- It looked like someone had been deprived of her fun. Looking back at Vesta he nodded at her. She could keep watch and make sure both parties were fighting fairly and without the intent to kill.
“I am glad we could come to some sort of agreement miss… corporal.” He raised a brow as if to say Is that what you want me to call you? before continuing. “My name is Midas, by the way- That young one is Vesta- She will be out referee.”
Vesta gawked at the both of them. Was it really as simple as coming to an agreement to harm each other with impunity? Wandering closer, she made a quick nod at Geei- both as a greeting and to show she understood what the lioness was saying.
Midas just smirked and walked forward a couple steps before turning back to look Geei over a couple times. “I want you to become fat with my children if I win.” Winking the lion strolled off to the clearing, bubbling with amusement over his reply.

"You can call me Geei, I'm not really one for titles" She raised a brow at Vesta. She still thought, younger sibling, the way she responded to the clearly older, more experienced male. She snorted a little laugh. Referees weren't uncommon in the firekin, they fought tournaments and battled amongst themselves someone had to be there to stop it if it got out of hand. She paused in her stride as he gave her what she wanted for winning. She pondered if he was trying to embarrass her, but firekin didnt get embarrassed, they didnt blush or act like silly girls, they fought and won. Watching as his rear receded away she gave a shrug, he was large, he was a viking, he was a fighter and even his yellow mane was golden enough to fit in amongst the firekin. "Agreed." She clicks her tongue and picks up her pace, the way he had said it wasn't exactly what she was expecting but, she wouldn't be unhappy about barring children of the big male. That's as one of the missions after all. New blood, new strong rogue blood ready to flow in to the firekin and bring new life to the sands. This had clearly been a lucky encounter.
