History
The Shadowed has a long and brutal history. In years long ago, before High Elves became endangered, the world was in constant war. Most of this was due to monstrous creatures that were vying for domination. Humans were in their infancy at this stage of the world and quite different from what they are today. Their kind knew very little about how to defend themselves and they died in droves.
Death and decay spread across the world, showering the once beautiful world that the Elves loved in despair. The Elves were afraid of what could happen to their gardens, and so a branch of the Elves decided to change the Humans' fate by teaching them magic and the art of the blade. However, because of the land being unused to so much blood soaking into the ground, something strange began to happen. The dead began rising.
At first, they were merely zombies and skeletons, meandering their way through the land to devour anything in their path. As long as the humans and Elves stayed behind their walls they were safe, or they thought. The High Elves began to notice that their magic was acting strangely, and the innate magic of the world began to infuse some of the undead with intelligence. The Elves did what they could to end the undead, but it was never enough.
Soon the undead began to roam in packs and even started having leaders among their groups. They were getting more intelligent and more kinds of undead began to take shape. The High Elves knew they had to do something to stop this or they would take over the world. However, the High Elves and Humans disagreed on how to do this. Since the Elves lived so much longer than the Humans, they were willing to take as long as it could to think up a plan to destroy all of them, but this wasn't enough for the humans who were losing much more of their numbers to the savagery.
It was then that a group of Elves agreed with the humans and together they thought up a plan to storm the undead and take back what was once theirs. The plan sadly was fruitless. There were much more undead than even the Elves thought and it didn't take long for them to be overwhelmed. Many of their numbers died, but those that didn't were taken to the dungeons where they finally realized the heights of their mistakes. Not only were the undead intelligent, but they also had cities that they controlled and were multiplying.
The High Elves had learned that they called themselves Vampires and that they fed on the blood of their victims. They were shackled to the dungeons and fed on regularly. The Vampires realized that the Elves were the perfect cattle as they lived far longer than any Human. So the Vampires began hunting the Elves extensively to improve the numbers of their slaves.
The Elves they had captured began to exhibit strange tendencies. The twisted magic that had created the vampires was mingling with the innate magic that the High Elves possessed and it slowly began to change them. The longer they stayed in the dungeons, the more their skin and eyes began to change. The Elves began to realize that they were fading. With their magic being slowly drained and changed they had begun to become one with the shadows that they lived in.
One such Elf realized that they could take advantage of this and she rallied the rest of her kind, and together they started experimenting with the shadows to get better control over their new gifts. They soon were able to use this ability to fade into the shadows, using them to escape their prison without the Vampires even knowing.
Sadly, when they returned home, the Elves no longer recognized the shadowy creatures as their own and refused them entry. They then took up the name The Shadowed and began to form their own civilization. The abilities of the Shadowed, however, became essential to fight back against the Vampires and once their numbers had been drastically reduced, the Shadowed took up the very city that they had been captured in, since it was there that their powers were the strongest.
