[ JOB LISTING ] Loan shark

[ DIFFICULTY LEVEL ] gaia_star gaia_star gaia_star

[ TASK ] It's time to call in some loans - aka the bank's most formidable and infamous task, what they're best known for. He's invited you to some interviews with people who are behind on their loan payments; the office is extremely grand and fancy - and also imposing. Doing this task means that Crane trusts you to know what you're doing, so you'd better not let him down...

[ MECHANICS ] Roll 1d100 and see how well you've fared. You may have two clients a day.

  • 01 - 15 - The person you've been instructed to speak to is a young parent who keeps crying everywhere. It's a little flustering to try and talk when someone is sobbing on your shoulder...needless to say, Crane is disappointed in your efforts. Or lack thereof. ( fail )

  • 16 - 30 - Twins. Why twins? What sort of twins take out a loan together? Apparently to open a small business. They're the type of twins who finish each other's sentences, which gets you both confused and a little annoyed. Crane doesn't appreciate your impatience...but he does seem to appreciate the creativity you use to handle the situation. ( pass )

  • 31 - 45 - Your patron is a young person - very young. In fact, so young that you're wondering how a person this young even got a loan. But it seems that appearances can be deceiving. You do well in getting them to admit that they need to pay the bank back. ( pass )

  • 46 - 60 - The customer is an elderly person who keeps trying to get you to speak louder and louder because they can't hear you. Crane seems amused by this, but doesn't intervene, even when the patron says that you remind them of their grandchild. They reminisce about stories of their childhood, and you get so involved in the storytelling that you almost forget you're doing work. ( pass )

  • 61 - 75 - Your patron is an attractive - very attractive - very very attractive - person who keeps flirting outrageously at you. Crane seems to find this quite normal, but it's throwing you off your game. Or maybe you're really good at flirting back. Either way, you actually do manage to convince them to make a payment. ( pass )

  • 76 - 90 - Your meet with someone who is unbelievably derogative and dismissive. No matter how levelheaded you might be, they eventually say something that gets under your skin, and you lose your temper. Crane seems a little entertained by this, but, well, you can't go around snapping at clients, after all. ( fail )

  • 91 - 100 - You meet with a high profile client who is as smooth as a shark and as cool as a cucumber. Nothing you say and do can ruffle them, but in spite of this, Crane seems both pleased and satisfied with your attempts at getting them to repay their outstanding debts. He gives you a nod of commendation. ( pass )

Yildirim wasn't the ... harshest person, around, but he was certain he could convince some people to give him some money. It couldn't be that hard. They were just humans, after all.

Of course, nothing was easy with humans, and he also knew that much.

He sat down with a man who looked a bit stiff, wearing a polo shirt with slacks and a very straight back. His hair was peppered with grey, and there were a few wrinkles on his forehead and mouth, settled in a way that made it look like the man spent a lot of time frowning. No problem. Yildirim ran his hand through his hair, before taking a breath and opening his mouth--

And immediately getting cut off. "Look, you're wasting my time. Was there any point to bringing me in here?"

Impatient, was he? No matter. Yildirim turned towards his desk for a moment, before pushing forward a bill to the client. "Yes, you owe the bank money. You can see-"

"I don't have time for your papers. Your job is to read it to me, yes?"

"Well, no, but." Yildirim took the paper back, glanced over it, and pointed to the very line where the amount the man owed was located. He then placed the paper back in front of the man and pointed to it. "There. It says you owe seven hundred at the moment. You have been delinquent in your--"

"Bah."

"What do you mean, bah?"

"I don't have time to listen to a baby lecture me on owing money. You should leave this to the adults. Bring in your manager so I do not need to hear your whiny voice--"

"Shut up. You owe us money. It doesn't matter who you talk to, the answer will be the same! I work for the bank, he works for the bank-- now will you grab that money out of your a** and--"

Needless to say, he didn't get the money, even though Crane was cackling at him.

Perhaps he'd have more luck with another customer.

The next woman who was brought to him seemed very old, but that was fine. Maybe she'd be easier to convince.

"Hello ma'am. Do you know why you're here?"

"What?"

Yildirim cleared his throat. "Do you know why you're here?"

"I'm sorry son, I can't hear you! You'll need to speak louder!" She seemed nice enough, so Yildirim wasn't exactly annoyed with her quite yet. Still, he was going to discard with the niceties so they could get this done faster.

"You need to pay your loan! You owe several payments!"

"What?"

"Pay your loan!"

"Oh, honey," was she even listening? "You remind me of my grandson! He stands about ye high, and he's got such pretty eyes. Your eyes remind me of him! My, you even have a similar voice! Can I tell you about the time we headed down to that big theme park together? What is it called? With the trees and the, oh, it doesn't matter! But there was a great big roller coaster, and--"

Yildirim originally groaned at the storytelling, but after a few minutes of describing the roller coaster, he was engrossed. It took a bit for him to realize that perhaps he should actually try asking about the money again.

"So, payment?"

"Ah, yes, sonny! Let me get out my checkbook..."
