[ JOB LISTING ] Loan shark

[ DIFFICULTY LEVEL ] gaia_star gaia_star gaia_star

[ TASK ] It's time to call in some loans - aka the bank's most formidable and infamous task, what they're best known for. He's invited you to some interviews with people who are behind on their loan payments; the office is extremely grand and fancy - and also imposing. Doing this task means that Crane trusts you to know what you're doing, so you'd better not let him down...

[ MECHANICS ] Roll 1d100 and see how well you've fared. You may have two clients a day.

  • 01 - 15 - The person you've been instructed to speak to is a young parent who keeps crying everywhere. It's a little flustering to try and talk when someone is sobbing on your shoulder...needless to say, Crane is disappointed in your efforts. Or lack thereof. ( fail )

  • 16 - 30 - Twins. Why twins? What sort of twins take out a loan together? Apparently to open a small business. They're the type of twins who finish each other's sentences, which gets you both confused and a little annoyed. Crane doesn't appreciate your impatience...but he does seem to appreciate the creativity you use to handle the situation. ( pass )

  • 31 - 45 - Your patron is a young person - very young. In fact, so young that you're wondering how a person this young even got a loan. But it seems that appearances can be deceiving. You do well in getting them to admit that they need to pay the bank back. ( pass )

  • 46 - 60 - The customer is an elderly person who keeps trying to get you to speak louder and louder because they can't hear you. Crane seems amused by this, but doesn't intervene, even when the patron says that you remind them of their grandchild. They reminisce about stories of their childhood, and you get so involved in the storytelling that you almost forget you're doing work. ( pass )

  • 61 - 75 - Your patron is an attractive - very attractive - very very attractive - person who keeps flirting outrageously at you. Crane seems to find this quite normal, but it's throwing you off your game. Or maybe you're really good at flirting back. Either way, you actually do manage to convince them to make a payment. ( pass )

  • 76 - 90 - Your meet with someone who is unbelievably derogative and dismissive. No matter how levelheaded you might be, they eventually say something that gets under your skin, and you lose your temper. Crane seems a little entertained by this, but, well, you can't go around snapping at clients, after all. ( fail )

  • 91 - 100 - You meet with a high profile client who is as smooth as a shark and as cool as a cucumber. Nothing you say and do can ruffle them, but in spite of this, Crane seems both pleased and satisfied with your attempts at getting them to repay their outstanding debts. He gives you a nod of commendation. ( pass )

Chao was feeling more confident after Cranes approval yesterday. Today she walked into the office with her head held high. She warmly greeted her client as she sat down at the table. Today’s client was an old human women. The woman asked Chao to repeat what she had said louder because she couldn’t hear. So the horseman raised her voice. This continued for a while until she was shouting greetings to the old lady at the top of her lungs. Which caused her coworkers to stare at her and it seemed to amuse Mr. Crane. Which was much better than the alternative. She kept trying to talk about the loans but the old lady continued to ask Chao to speak up and then very suddenly the old lady started to talked about how much Chao reminded her of her granddaughter.

“My Georgia is a wonderful girl, I wouldn’t be surprised to see her with that hair style, the flower are very cute.” The old lady cooed before continuing,. “My Georgia keeps her hair up for work though, did you know she’s on the board of a big company? Oh what’s the name? Well I’m sure you’ve heard of it. She is all ways so busy and wearing a fancy outfit like that. I’m so proud of her, making a name for herself, you too.”

“Ah when Georgia was younger she was a wild child. Kept running around and climbing up anything and everything she got into all sorts of trouble. Never thought she’d settle down and get a respectable job, all ways figured she’d end up one of those people who go runnin’ off all over the world for who knows what. Suppose she gets to travel enough with her job though. ” The old lady continued to ramble on about her granddaughter’s childhood for a while and at first Chao decided to be polite and listen but at some point she got caught up in it. It was so interesting to hear what humans and human children do all the time, it would help when she tried to blend in. “Oh my where has the time gone?” The old woman suddenly stopped her story as she looked at the clock. “Dear oh dear, I’ve stayed far too long, you’ve been such a dear though. How much does grandma owe you?” She peered at Chao though her glasses with a sweet smile as she asked the question. When Chao stated the amount that the woman was behind on, the old woman took out her checkbook and wrote Chao a check for her missed payments and the next month as well “because I’m so forgetful about these things dearie.” Chao was glad that it looked like she only had a few more loan payments to make.

Chao waved goodbye to the sweet old lady, happy that she had managed to get the lady to pay, and honestly she hadn’t had to do much except listen and be nice. Which was a nice change from arguing with people over money or listening to them for hours and then having them just walk away.
