-- - - - -The school year was dragging on and on and on. Muro had had very little time between his adventures with his twin to actually buckle down and do his work. Somehow, Mio was always already done, but him? He struggled so much. There wasn't any way for him to concentrate on both his shenanigans AND his schoolwork. Muro just didn't know how.
So, he had resorted to trickery on his own. Mio's handwriting, like everything else about them, was identical to his. So, simply, he waited for Mio to finish her work, swapped his unfinished work with hers, and when they were turned in, no one was the wiser.

-- - -Or so he thought.
Mio had caught onto her twin's shenangans long ago, as even though to the naked, untrained eye their handwriting was identical, Mio noticed the little things. Muro dotted his I's a little darker, his T's and F's were crossed at a slight angle, and his S's were a bit sharper.
But, honestly, for the longest time she didn't mind. The both of them were able to get the answers correct, Muro just took longer with actually getting things done. Like always, he lagged being Mio just a little bit, but like always, she didn't mind one bit. Mio loved her twin unconditionally, wholly, and would do anything and everything to help him stay on even footing with her.
Thus, when they both were escorted to their Language Arts teacher's classroom one day after all classes were said and done, Mio held Muro's hand tightly.

-- - - - -The lecture was shorter than he'd expected, really. Obviously he hand Mio would have to get back at the assistant sooner or later, but for now, he was glad they weren't being hauled off to the headmistress' office.
"I'm sorry, Mio..." Muro sighed as they walked back to their dorm, "I should have told you, or, asked you for help...I just didn't...I wanted to...I just can't do it on time!"
Slow, but thorough. Still, Muro would never get work done on time if he had to juggle school, going out and pranking, AND learning the family business. Which, honestly, wasn't something he was too interested in.

-- - -That T.A. was gonna get it. Someday. Maybe. If they had time.
"It's fine," Mio assured her twin, taking his hand and giving him a toothy smile. "I kinda already knew what you were doing. I don't randomly forget I forgot to do half the homework when I was already done with it."
As they entered their dorm, they were greeted by their flitterats, the both of them squeaking and chittering happily as they made the glide down from one of the bookshelves. If it wasn't for the small familiars, the twins, at this point, might have already gotten themselves expelled. As it was, they were only allowed to keep them if they behaved.
And they hadn't been caught yet.

-- - - - -Catching his green-patterned rat and holding it close, Muro went over to sit on their couch, lovingly donated by their big uncle Kei. Already it showed signs of being jumped on a little too much, and one of the cushions was torn. Still, it was good to sit on and sometimes good to fall asleep on.
"What am I gonna do?" Muro asked his twin as he sat his rattie on top of his head. "If I don't do that anymore, I'll never finish anything! You're faster than me,but we still get the same answers..."
"At this point..." Muro's eyes welled with tears, "I'll never graduate...Mom'll be unhappy..."

-- - -Mio's blue-patterned rat simply divebombed into her sweater, chittering away happily.
It wasn't often that Mio felt helpless, but when she did, it usually involved her twin. Identical in very way, there were definitely things that set them apart, and the fact that she was just a bit faster than him was one of those things. Never meaning to leave him in the dust, she'd slowly learned how to either match his pace, or wait.
But when it came to schoolwork, it was ride-or-die. Keep up, or fail, it seemed.
"It's not mom that'll be unhappy, or even dad." Mio started, going over to plop down beside her brother. "It'll be unca Kei and Ji. they're dead set on us going into the family business when we graduate..." Just the thought made her want to shrivel up.

-- - - - -It wasn't that dead people scared or even ick'd them, it just wasn't the thing they wanted to do. They loved pranks, and had been starting to go from being somewhat malicious, to wanting to get others to laugh in the end.
Muro sighed, leaning over to rest his head on Mio's shoulder. "Maybe we could, I dunno, word work differently...?" It wasn't a bad idea, really, but as soon as he said it, he realized how impossible that would be.
"Why do we gotta go into the family business anyhow?!" Muro suddenly growled, crossing his arms in irritation, "I don't wanna deal with dead people!"

-- - -"I don't want to, either." Mio agreed, nodding. "Mom says it might be good for us, but to follow our hearts...and my heart's not there."
And indeed, it wasn't. The twins had been fortunate enough so far to be getting by on their own little pranks, but Mio wanted to get into something different. Sure that Muro felt the same, Mio decided to take the jump and make the suggestion.
"I think...once we finish these classes, we start thinking about a different business." She raised a brow with a grin, hoping he would catch on. "Yanno...something more fun and less...dead people-y."

-- - - - -One of the best things about being twins was that sometimes, you didn't have to say what you were thinking out loud for your other half to know what you were thinking at all. This was one of those cases, and it worked out swell for Muro.
"A Joke shop?" He ventured, grinning widely now. "I mean...we still gotta go to school for that. I don't think unca Kei will teach us how to business owner, if we're just gonna pretend to be employees..."
The more he thought about it, the more he liked it. It was so great, the idea of owning their own joke shop and bringing their love of pranking and joking to the rest of Below.
"I think...we could do that...Can we do that?"

-- - -"We can do whatever we want to." Mio assured her twin, gently bumping her shoulder against his.
It would be tough, no doubt, but she would find a way to ensure that her struggling brother would succeed. There was no doubt in her mind that, if only given a lot more time, he would be just fine.
And, if the both of them were given the time, they would get through the academy, enroll in a university, and start their own business.
Together.
After all, together, they could do anything and overcome whatever life threw at them.
As long as they're together.
