[ JOB LISTING ] Loan shark

[ DIFFICULTY LEVEL ] gaia_star gaia_star gaia_star

[ TASK ] It's time to call in some loans - aka the bank's most formidable and infamous task, what they're best known for. He's invited you to some interviews with people who are behind on their loan payments; the office is extremely grand and fancy - and also imposing. Doing this task means that Crane trusts you to know what you're doing, so you'd better not let him down...

[ MECHANICS ] Roll 1d100 and see how well you've fared. You may have two clients a day.

  • 01 - 15 - The person you've been instructed to speak to is a young parent who keeps crying everywhere. It's a little flustering to try and talk when someone is sobbing on your shoulder...needless to say, Crane is disappointed in your efforts. Or lack thereof. ( fail )

  • 16 - 30 - Twins. Why twins? What sort of twins take out a loan together? Apparently to open a small business. They're the type of twins who finish each other's sentences, which gets you both confused and a little annoyed. Crane doesn't appreciate your impatience...but he does seem to appreciate the creativity you use to handle the situation. ( pass )

  • 31 - 45 - Your patron is a young person - very young. In fact, so young that you're wondering how a person this young even got a loan. But it seems that appearances can be deceiving. You do well in getting them to admit that they need to pay the bank back. ( pass )

  • 46 - 60 - The customer is an elderly person who keeps trying to get you to speak louder and louder because they can't hear you. Crane seems amused by this, but doesn't intervene, even when the patron says that you remind them of their grandchild. They reminisce about stories of their childhood, and you get so involved in the storytelling that you almost forget you're doing work. ( pass )

  • 61 - 75 - Your patron is an attractive - very attractive - very very attractive - person who keeps flirting outrageously at you. Crane seems to find this quite normal, but it's throwing you off your game. Or maybe you're really good at flirting back. Either way, you actually do manage to convince them to make a payment. ( pass )

  • 76 - 90 - Your meet with someone who is unbelievably derogative and dismissive. No matter how levelheaded you might be, they eventually say something that gets under your skin, and you lose your temper. Crane seems a little entertained by this, but, well, you can't go around snapping at clients, after all. ( fail )

  • 91 - 100 - You meet with a high profile client who is as smooth as a shark and as cool as a cucumber. Nothing you say and do can ruffle them, but in spite of this, Crane seems both pleased and satisfied with your attempts at getting them to repay their outstanding debts. He gives you a nod of commendation. ( pass )

Liya had gotten herself a lot of new clothes since she first worked for the Bank. She was also a little bit more amicable when dealing with humans, the trip to Dzni land might have had something to do with that. She was dressed in things she hoped humans considered swanky and classy (they wouldn't but at least it wasn't eyebrow raising enough to bar her entrance from the establishment).

She was pleasantly surprised to find a familiar face and walked up to Meelo, "Heeeey~ ready for another job? No busting heads this time, just talking them down and s**t."

His attire too had changed ever so slightly, a little less confining in some areas while his feet finally had found some shoes. There was just no dealing with his pants, no way around them. Stuck in them and unable to get out of the tight things even if he tried. He tugged at his scarf slightly as his eyebrows raised from the familiar voice approaching.

"Not as fun," Melo shrugged playfull, "but putting on the charm, ya? I'm game. Could be worth my while." Though fights were awesome, getting to sweet talk into things was always an interesting endeavor.

Liya was always friendly to everyone on the first time she ever meets them. So when her client arrived, she was her usual cheerful self. She'd done this before and could put up with grouch-faces and the odd abrasive individual.

But this one? This particular client pushed Liya to her limit. Admittedly her limit was not very long to begin with and when the client outright tells her that her proper place was under someone and that she should call someone else to deal with them, Meelo was certainly needed.

To stop Liya from mauling the client with her bare teeth and/or gouging out their eyes with her nails.

It was almost astounding how much one single human was capable of pushing anyone so far and so many buttons. (Then again, they were human) If he hadn't needed to hold Liya back from reducing the client to a pile heaped meat then he might have snapped enough to punch the guy.

It took a lot of constraint, but his hands were otherwise occupied with holding onto his companions shoulders.

The War Horseman had to readjust her clothes for her second client. Though really she wouldn't have thought twice about presenting herself in a little (or a lot) less garment to this particular human. Maybe she just wanted to see them uncomfortable (most of them seem to have issues with nakedness) but this human seemed more than happy to go along with the somewhat bloody innuendo Liya was accustomed to suggesting.

"You heard that right, didn't you?" she asked Meelo in a soft whisper, "They said they were paying back the loan, right?"

There were many complications with the next pair they had encountered. About the only saving grace was that Liya (and well, him too) had managed to calm down from the first client they were meant to shake down for money. On the one hand at least one of them wasn't making them go on edge, teetering towards the beating of their lifetime but Meelo could say that he was not very fond of one of them in the least. (They had very good material, some he filed away for later).

Their relationship was very hard to judge as well, while they didn't seem to be anything but the way the other watched the human flirting with Liya's eyes welled; it was obvious something might have been there. But was it about the money or the flirting? It was also hard to judge and there was no words getting out of that one once the floodgates opened and the human meant for him - apparently by process of elimination - was uncontrollable. Just sobbing. It was very tempting to hit them as he never managed to hit the first guy.

"Well, you managed at least, sounds like a win for you, ya." And shot a glare at the crier.

Liya drew away the crier off of Meelo, "Why doncha go for that one?" she suggested, gesturing to the next client that came their way.

With the leave of the pair that had been half a success, Meelo had figured (and honestly hoped a little) that they were done with their task for the day. While it was an interesting tactic to just try to talk humans down to get what they needed from them, he was finding he did prefer the good and tried method of just using his fists. And well plots and wits.

What he didn't inspect was a third to make it into the room, and he turned surprised when Liya mentioned to the fact while the door opened a fledgling impossibly young to have to be dealing with loans and banks walked in.

Meelo eyed the young thing suspiciously, not for a second buying the curly pigtails, the little jumper dress or the missing front teeth. Maybe this was one of those really young little humans but the moment she spoke as she sat down, he began to realize she really was a tiny aged human. "Who are you two supposed to be?" Even lisped.

"Collections," Meelo answered, pressing a hand on the table to stare at her intently. "Here to get what's due, just because you're young doesn't mean you get a pass."

She gave him one those looks, like she was unimpressed, "whatever." She was what, nine in human years and already had the sass? Meelo found himself wanting to keep her. Almost, human children were terrible even with interesting personalities. It only took a few more minutes of them leering at one another until she reached down to a backpack and pulled out a plastic bag full of random amounts of human paper money, "I usually deal with Crane but if he has you two weirdos getting what people owe then I'll just leave this here." The bag fell with a little thwap and looked ready to split open and spill its contents.

The girl then shrugged and got up without another word and left. Outside the sound of small fingers on a screen rang through, "mom I'm done. He had some weirdos try to shake me down -" then her voice disappeared down the hall.

Meelo shot Liya a look and himself shrugged. "All right, think we're finally done."
