Laboratory Technician// Confidential Work

Quote:
[ JOB LISTING ] Laboratory Technician
[ DIFFICULTY LEVEL ] gaia_star gaia_star gaia_star
[ TASK ]

Isabelle has entrusted you with a new security clearance, allowing you to do work in the more secretive Experimental arm of the labs. Your lab specimens today are hidden inside of a room with no windows and no door you have access to. With you is a lab station with several substances, a computer with extensive readouts, and a file on your specimen. The room is oddly soundproof to all things.

Roll 2d20. You must combine substances into a mixture that causes harm . You must successfully craft and administer this concoction to succeed. After creating the mixture, you slide the syringe into a slot and simply wait to see the results.

You may attempt this 3 times per day.

You must sign an NDA to work in this branch, a non-disclosure agreement that binds you from talking too freely about the work done due to the cutting edge technology, but you are welcome to chat freely with other techs. This means you may write with a friend if you like. Feel free to explore any moral implications with these tests.

Match each individual dice to the below. You may choose what sort of "animal" is within the room from the following list: chicken, chimpanzee, dog, guinea pig, horse, mouse.

Mixtures:
• 1-4: The solution is viscous, vibrant red, and reeks of metal.
• 5-8: The mixture is runny, dim green, and smells of a boggy swamp.
• 9-12: The mixture does not come together. Fail, try again.
• 13-16: The acidic liquid is translucent blue, and cloudy. It has no odor.
• 17-20: The substance is entirely black, as if a hole was there rather than matter. It smells of sulfur.

Effects:
• 1-4: The target's readings go haywire for a moment, but they soon recover. Fail, try again.
• 5-8: The vital signs slow until they remain low enough to be considered an induced coma. Success.
• 9-12: The readings are unclear, suddenly distorting as if affected by a magnetic field. Success.
• 13-16: While the room is sound proof, you can still hear echoes of nightmarish screams. Success. Please quote Its Me Debz for a reward.
• 17-20: The specimen has broken loose from the room. Please evacuate and consider this a success.

After your day has concluded, please fill out the following form describing your experience here at Bates Diagnostics. Your happiness is important to us. (Answers may be brief.)

Tria's hands were shaking. She'd never done anything quite like this before, it was so different from jewelcraft, and she wasn't sure she was a fan. It wasn't like any of the metals she bends and shapes squirms, or tries to get away, or cries out in pain. At most, it just needs a little coaxing to get where it should go. Her lips quiver as she takes in the assortment of chemicals arranged on the table before her.

"I.... Reine, are you sure this is good job? I'm starting to question if you said 'good' as in 'challenging and looks great on resumes' as opposed to 'good' as in 'has clear ethical guidelines'."

Tria hasn't stopped petting the mice in her hands. She wants to smile as it runs over the back of her hand, then the front of her hand, as she obligingly turns it over to provide the mouse more 'track' to run upon.

The mixture in her syringe is seems to absorb all light around it, it's color a rather innocent looking black. It doesn't bubble. It doesn't hiss. But it's odor... The mouse clearly looks uncomfortable.

A NEW POST FOR A NEW QUOTE JUST BECAUSE. I'm not sure if editing in quotes actually sends out the ping. >_>

Reine wasn't normally a big fan (or a fan at all) of signing things with her name; anything binding, anything that could be held against her later.. just seemed like a hassle.

So the obvious solution to that, then, was mimicking Tria's signature and signing off with a different name. No one seemed to bother with double-checking the form, either.

They were led through a billion identical-looking corridors to a laboratory, kind of a disconcertingly spartan place that smelled funny, and for once Tria seemed quite as uncomfortable as she was. Still, a job was a job, and needed to be done. After a brief explanation of the task at hand, the two death horsemen were left to their own devices.

"I don't know, did I say it was a good job? I mean it's not like you have any proof or anything." There was a definite shakiness to her voice.

Looking over all the different vials in front of her, Reine selected the brightest colour - because naturally, bright colours - like candy - were indicative of poison, and poison necessarily led to harm, which was, after all, their goal. The red liquid emitted little puffs of smoke as she poured it into a flask, then immediately thickened significantly when she poured the blue liquid in. Oddly, there was no sign of the blue left - if anything, the red liquid grew even more vibrant, but there was also an overwhelming metallic smell coming from the flask, and she scrabbled to find a stopper.

Well - only thing left to do now was to test it.

"YES," Tria's agitation leaked into her voice. "Yes, you definitely said it was a good job. Something about how it's something NEW that we've never done before, and it pays well and ... and ...." She fumbled the syringe in her hand. Then, in a low voice, she admitted, "I don't know if I can do this. A-are you...?" Tria pantomimes a strange stabbing motion with her arm. "Are you doing this?"

The mouse squeaks in her hands, it's heartbeat trembling against her fingers.
