[ JOB LISTING ] Salesman
[ DIFFICULTY LEVEL ] gaia_star gaia_star

[ TASK ]
As a part time salesman in the store, you will help to part customers with their money and sell them our products. Upselling is rewarded only when it is subtle, after all Horse isn't a crass establishment, we sell a lifestyle, not just a product!

Commission is generous and the rewards are many.

[ MECHANICS ]
Roll 1d6 twice, each roll is half the day.

  1. - For whatever reason it seems someone who is enamoured with a competitor's brand has come in just to argue with you about their merits and not buy anything at all.
  2. - The sale is very easy indeed, after all your customer is dressed in branded clothing and came here with plenty of money, you even sell them some accessories at three times the markup.
  3. - This sale is all right, the person doesn't want much and no amount of convincing them seems to get anywhere, they buy a case for their existing product and leave
  4. - Tyr stops by while you are making a very tough sell and the customer is so distracted by meeting the CEO that they relent and spend more than they intended to, even taking out some insurance on their product.
  5. - Customer wastes your time by seeming very interested for most of the morning, asking about every single product on sale, going through tests and examples and ultimately saying they will "come back tommorow" as they leave.
  6. - An older customer is getting rid of their hugely outdated phone and is only too happy to take you up on the latest hPhone along with lessons for it

Dressed in a given uniform, Vin looked like all the other service workers though his tag said greeter and not tech, nerd, or expert. Any professional title was not stated which was good considering he knew nothing aside from what was given to him on the pamphlets about the items listed and what was recently released. His sole job was to answer what he could and point to things that might interest people which seemed to be everything. As he stood, a brushy-haired woman came in and asked for his help, and nervously he started walking down each and every item. He was not sure what she wanted as she seemed to want everything as a gift for her boyfriend. What he thought would be a few minutes turned out into a whole tour of every object in the shop, and he read the descriptions and looked up answers from the packets available for clients - which the woman did not want to take or read. By the end of his shift, she didn't decide on anything and said she would just ask her dad.

For whatever reason it seems someone who is enamored with a competitor's brand has come in just to argue with you about their merits and not buy anything at all.

They were talking. They were talking a lot. They continued to talk, and Vin stared at them as they broke down every highlight of the products before him with a chorus of noses, grunts, exhales, and far too much saliva for a human as they went on and on about why everything in here was garbage. And Vin listed, all the while counting the teeth in the man's skull and wondering how he would decompose later in life. He thought of indoors on his couch, surrounded by the products he loved. Or maybe electrocuted when one of said electronics dropped in the tub with him on accident - or maybe smashed. Maybe he would drop his phone and go after it right off a balcony.

His teeth would look nice among the mush.

So the man talked, and Vin nodded slowly in a way that said he was listening but not agreeing, and wondering if the competitor had faulty wiring in their products and hoped they did.

Cor was not hugely fond of this job, but we all have to start somewhere and he had things he wished to buy for his family. Including his little girl's own hPhone. He just felt so constricted in a dress shirt and tie and constantly had to stop what he was doing to adjust his tie so it didn't feel like it was choking him, nor hang so low as to look unprofessional.

He felt less silly when distracted by customers and one appeared to be coming in the store and making a line straight for him.

All excitement from a prospective sale drained from Cor's face as the man kept droning on and on and on about how much better his mDroid was. Eventually, a thought occurred to Cor and he held a hand up to silence the man.

"How can you possibly say one is better than the other when you have never experienced an hPhone?" Before the man could drum up another argument, Cor held his hand up again. "Put your money where your mouth is; your opinion is moot if you have not actually experienced an hPhone. It is a way of life, after all." The man was turning a strange color as he struggled to argue with that. "But I can understand if you can't afford an hPhone and simply are limited to..." he made an 'eh' sound. "...mDroids."

Backed in a corner now, the man wanted to buy an hPhone just to show Cor up.

All seemed calm again for a time until a customer came in who was particularly difficult. Mostly in part because they did not know what they wanted and most certainly felt as though they did not need anything. Cor tried everything he could think of and then suddenly Tyr stopped by.

After that, Cor only needed to merely suggest and the customer wanted it on their tab. They spent the entire time staring at Tyr. They didn't even seem to register the massive price tag they were quoted at the register...

This was probably the best sale he's made all year. Tyr should show up more often.
