[ JOB LISTING ] Cafeteria Worker
[ DIFFICULTY LEVEL ] gaia_star
[ TASK ] To serve special lunches to guests that will ensure their diet remains On Course For Success

Quote:

The human staff has been taking a lot of injuries lately handling the dining periods, and extra help, even just for an hour a day, would help tremendously!

The cafeteria is white on white on white. It's pristine. Enya plays gently in the distance. The guests sit themselves down at their tables with their very white trays and very white, very empty plates and try to very patiently wait for a server to approach them. You are their server. You are their savior.

Roll 2d6 and complete the 2 prompts
  1. You give them a Cherry Coke Zero for their meal. They cry in gratitude as others look on in envy.
  2. You give them 6 peas. Talk them through eating every single one mindfully. Mindfulness is very On Trend right now.
  3. You give them a Twinkie. Their neighbor sees this, a fight breaks out.
  4. You walk a guest through eating a feast made entirely with their imagination.
  5. You give them a book to read, food for thought is important after all. They attack you.
  6. The single vending machine which only stocks small, fifty dollars bags of dried seaweed has not been restocked yet for the day. A riot breaks out.

Feedings. He was used to it back in the specimen bay, but humans had so much they consumed that he wasn't sure exactly how he was supposed to approach a herd of them awaiting their meals. It did come as a surprise to see them all lined up, sitting patiently with their food dishes awaiting them. The instructions were limiting, and Vin started at the tray with a head tilt before he realized something. They must be fasting. Great! Letting yourself be devoid of food and slowly hollow out was an excellent practice and he was rather proud of the humans for going so far as to emulate the practices of Famine as far as their limiting bodies would allow.

Pleased, he came in, moving down when he saw a few humans whispering to each other. The volume was getting louder the more he approached before one stood up and shouted. "BUT THEY SHOULD HAVE COME YESTERDAY!" He shouted, slamming his tray on the table.

"Well I don't control snack food corporations. Jim does!" Said the other, pointing down the table.

"I don't supply that vending machine!" The man, supposedly named Jim, shouted back. It didn't take long for a tray to be tossed across the ground and a man and woman to hold back the first one to create a outburst. The rest of the group was agitated and soon were rising up from their seats too, and Vin rushed down to quell the situation at the end and hoped Cor could handle the rest of them.

"Calm now. Calm. Situation will be handled. Here. This will help." He offered them a copy of Moby d**k and smiled. "Feed mind and hunger will pass."

They stared at him and soon started to toss the books and the trays. One man, however, did start eating paper pages. At least he was being resourceful.

Cor on the other hand did not understand the humans obsession with food and portion control. If he wanted to eat turkey, he just grabbed a turkey and ate the damned thing. Humans were very strange creatures.

He watched as poor Vin was immediately surrounded and swarmed by hungry (possibly flesh eating) humans. He hung back in hopes Vin would be able to smooth things over a bit before he came to calm them further. Unfortunately, not everything always goes as planned and as soon as he showed any desire to jump in to help one of the guests rounded on him, starting to express their extreme displeasure at their lack of food on offer.

When his explanation that they had no food to give at this moment fell on deaf ears, he then tried talking them through eating a meal with their imagination. Explaining in intense detail, bite for bite, succulent snow crabs with their juices dribbling down the guests chin as they took a bite and the smell of the sauteed shrimp drowning in garlic butter just waiting for them next. His details were so intense that that guest along with several others dazed off with drool dizzling down the corners of their lips. It was more than a little unnerving.

When food did come, it was a pitiful amount of peas. He didn't know how he was going to convince them to be satisfied with such measly portions, so he followed the guidelines they'd been given. Mindful Eating. That was certainly a... thing. He guessed.

At least in the end, the humans seemed to be sated by their services and the riot appeared to be quelled. Before Vin was eaten alive.
