The dog was a pretty thing.

Bright, and cheerful, just the way Aric liked his dogs - and everything else in the world, if he was being entirely honest with himself - and very friendly - also just like how Aric liked everything else in the world. He kind of hoped that the dog would be his friend as they worked together, but really, it was just a matter of doing the best sort of work that he could.

Also he was supposed to be working, not making friends with the animals, even if that was tempting.

(Very tempting.)

The creature was barking joyfully at him. Aric picked up a toy frisbee - one of the items that the staff had left him - and winged it as hard as he could across the room. The dog let out an excited sort of bellow and charged after it, far faster than any usual dog should have been running, its jaws latching around the small plastic object within half a second of Aric throwing it.

"Hooray!" Aric shouted happily, then remembered professional. He hastily went back to his clipboard and scribbled a few messy notes on advantageous reflexes and advanced training before he decided to test out the theory of throwing more things for the dog to catch. Privately, in spite of the fact that Aric was well aware of the consequences of naming his test subject, he was referring to the dog as Birdy, mostly because he was thinking of Owl being happy - which he would be, eventually, if Aric had any say about it.
