[ JOB LISTING ] Treatment Center
[ DIFFICULTY LEVEL ] gaia_star gaia_star
[ TASK ] Aid spa specialists in their innovative treatments by helping handle and feed the wholly organic swarms of healthful helpers provided by nature in all its mystery. (Warning : Insect & Worm Prompts)

Quote:

The human staff has gone tragically missing, but all new ventures are bound for a few hiccups. The treatment keepers have taken to pulling in any idle horsemen found at the spa or even in the Dusk to come spend a shift helping feed and care for the spa's special swarms of cultivated insects and unusual plant life.

Roll 2d6 and complete the 2 prompts
  1. You're set to supervise a tank full of leeches. It's an incredibly boring job until the leeches begin to grow. And grow. And grow until they're the size of a fat man's leg. The tank breaks. They're surprisingly fast and wily for leeches and it's up to you to catch and corral them all. Roll 1d10 until you succeed by getting a 6 or higher.
  2. The Moth Room needs cleaning and it's not a very glorious or interesting job until you start to hallucinate and the walls begin to melt.
  3. The Music Room allows you to enjoy a peaceful shift feeding its inhabitants as they are trained in their next composition.
  4. The tapeworms need to be taken for discreet walkies. This process involves placing leashes and collars on tapeworms and then walking them around, whispering encouragements to help motivate them to be their best wormselves. Roll 1d10 until you succeed three times by getting a 3 or higher.
  5. The Nagev Garden is full of helpful plants that wont just melt away fat but also clean the bones underneath as well with an enthusiastic efficiency! Feeding them is a pleasure if you life watching meat get torn apart and some of the plants will even let you pet them after. Roll 1d4 to determine how many fingers you lose during this shift. (Don't worry, they'll grow back by tomorrow.)
  6. The maggot farm has gone missing and the spa needs your help in finding out where it's gone off to. Was it stolen? Did their Fear Makeup get altered in an experiment, transforming them into something new? Did something eat the whole thing? You don't have to roll for success, you just have to tell a story to the shift supervisor.

Cleaning was exceptionally dull work.

Issos had never been good with household affairs, preferring instead to keep his living space as utilitarian and as empty as possible. He disliked having to do too much work in general, if he was being entirely honest with himself, but he at least managed to work things out for himself, even if it meant making as little effort as horsemanly as possible.

Cleaning for other people, however, was even less appealing. Issos halfheartedly swept the broom over the floor, flopping it uselessly back and forth and not really actually getting anything into the dustpan except a few stray pieces of dirt. He was supposed to be convincing here at this job, but at least he was doing something, which was more than he could say for some of the other "employees."

The floors mumbled beneath his feet. Issos stopped, the movement of the broom slowing, his dark brows drawing together. After a moment, he decided he'd just imagined it, and started sweeping again, with a little more gusto this time because he just wanted to get out of this place and go back home.

The floors shifted.

Then whispered.

Issos jabbed the end of the broom against the wall. "Quit it," he said, but politely, because he was never anything more than that. He went back to sweeping, and felt the floor tremble, felt the entire room shudder as though it was being knocked into. Issos slowly leaned the broom against the wall and squinted around for some indicator of what was happening, but nothing seemed to be standing out to him.

He shrugged, reached for the broom again, and then yanked his hand back with a hiss of pain, because the broom handle was burning.

Or rather, the broom itself was just caught in the melee of it all. The walls were beginning to slip and slide and gush and ooze, sliding sloppily over its own folds melting into a gooey, blazing heap at the bottom of the floor. Issos stared at this phenomenon and felt his heart beating just a little faster, his chest tightening, his pulse quickening.

"Time to get out of here, I think," he said, keeping the level, almost friendly note to his voice. "Time to - yes, I think leaving is a great idea."

He would come back later.

Maybe.

The room was really very pleasant to be in.

It was a quiet, airy sort of place with a lot of extra space and a great deal of things for people to sit down on or relax into. Cushions and couches and comfortable chairs, and gentle, soft music ebbing from the speakers high up on the walls, tucked into the corners of the rooms. Light, dinky sort of music that should have been annoying, but was really rather pleasant. The specimens were all training well in here; some were practicing on the pianos, others were playing fluted instruments, but somehow the cacophony of sound didn't come off as a tangled mess to Issos. There was a soft fluidity of it all, something that ebbed and flowed like ocean tides, and Issos really was quite pleased by it.

All in all, it was a lovely shift. Very calm and quiet. Issos was feeling more than a little relaxed as he set off for the secondary shift in the Nagev Garden.

The cart of food he had to feed the plants was stock full. Issos watched one of the plants gobble up an entire bag all on its own before it let out a cheerful burp of satisfaction. He moved onto the next one and found that the majority of all of the plants were quite similar in the way that they devoured everything; they were all so very cheerful about it, though, that Issos felt rather uplifted just watching them.

He patted the top of one plant's head, then moved to the next and fed it too. Down the rows and rows of thriving, luscious plants all eager for food; they dissolved things quite well, Issos discovered; there was almost no mess or fuss, everything simply disappearing altogether so that there wasn't a trace of any of them left.

He did lose a finger, once, when he patted one plant's head a little too close after eating. And a second finger after he'd gotten his coat sleeve stuck. But really, it had gone much better than Issos had thought.

And besides, fingers grew back.
